A few of us feel that we've fallen in to the habit of using internet slang (most specifically things like lol) at the expense of expressing our thoughts using good old fashioned words!
So for those who wish to join in (and no worries if this is of no interest to you - lol and rofl yourself silly) how about July becomes a month of abstinence where we go back to basics and say what we mean rather than using abbreviations for actions we may or may not be doing?!
Personally I don't use smilies myself, but as they're a cop out for expressing yourself with language, why not give them a holiday too?! We can see if everything becomes flat and boring round here, or if we have it deep within ourselves to communicate our thoughts, opinions and personality just as effectively without living in cartoon land!
I'm in!

Heh, I'm in! Although it's way harder to not use them in chat rooms; this could be difficult!

Woo for the yaysayers! (And I know who you are, naysayer...!)
Yeah anaira, maybe just aim to do it on the forums for now - chat rooms and IM are bound to be trickier!

What? This is nothing new from you! I agree to this only if next month you promise to use smilies and/or a lol in every post you post, my friend.

Whaaaaat?! I almost use lol as standard punctuation these days, it's not pretty.
So no, no deal, mon amigo.

Woo for the yaysayers! (And I know who you are, naysayer...!) Do tell! Yeah anaira, maybe just aim to do it on the forums for now - chat rooms and IM are bound to be trickier! Haha, I like a challenge; besides, once I start something, it goes all the way! I'm still using things like brb and gtg in chat though; they are invaluable!

Admittedly, brb and gtg come in handy when your bladder is 110% full and you've simply got no time to type out 'be right back!'.
I hope you like soaked pants, suckers!

Not to mention having the runs. Before you are able to type "be right back", you'll be throwing the desk chair outdoors for a good scrub.

...unlike some computer addicts, I don't wait for my bladder to get 110% full before dragging myself away! Even if I did, I wouldn't even bother taking time to tell people I was going; they may just guess for themselves!

I don't use smileys very often, but use LOL and ROFL. Since I don't text, I'm still trying to learn some of the other text talk. I have mastered LMAO, OMG, IMO and a few others. If I keep working on it, I will soon be able to carry on a whole conversation without using a single officially recognized word. Something like "U R 2 fny. LMAO @ ur cmnts, lol" See, I almost have this non language down to a language!!! Okay, Treen, I will play for a month, or at least try, since I think I already posted a few LOLs and it's already two days into the month. Sorry.

Gosh Laurie, I actually *need* a month off texttalk now, after reading that sentence you posted! Now where are those paracetamol....?!

Why are there no tablets in the jungle?
Because the paracetamol!
-------
Can we still read lolcats?
---------------
A risky ploy indeed. Some less secure people may take extended silence (as one requires for the relieving of a one hundred and ten per cent full bladder) as an awkward pause - or even worse, as being Ignored. Disaster!

Why are there no tablets in the jungle? Because the paracetamol! Ha, that's even lamer than mine! Can we still read lolcats? I dang well am! --------------- A risky ploy indeed. Some less secure people may take extended silence (as one requires for the relieving of a one hundred and ten per cent full bladder) as an awkward pause - or even worse, as being Ignored. Disaster! Even more disasterous than an 'accident'? Incidently Treen, I noticed you started the July piggie of the month thread with a message icon. Heh.

Back in your box, Laurie! Incidently Treen, I noticed you started the July piggie of the month thread with a message icon. Heh. Huh?! I think the frantic state which has been induced in your brain due to not using texttalk is causing you to hallucinate! Seriously, where's the smilie? Don't know what you mean! Cuckoo, cuckoo! *whistles innocently* Can we still read lolcats? Who?!

Google it, chump!
So you're in day 5. How is everyone holding up? I personally have not said lol in ages - not due to this though, of course; more due to the fact that I don't have anything to laugh about any more.

On the outside I may act like I don't care, but every day you cut me deep. When will it end?
