I am so glad they enjoyed themselves, they are gorgeous boys. It would be nice if we had nice weather right through to August, but we all know it isn;t going to happen!!

Awww, great that they finally got to go outside and play again, and that you sorted the cause of the eye injury. I won't buy a wood tunnel. Thanks for the heads up!!!
I'm really hoping for a decent summer this summer. Last summer had record heat across the country, so no grazing. Been a while since there was any good grazing weather around here. My current batch of pigs has never been out to graze here:(

Thank you! I've got them inside right now. It might sound silly, but they are constantly squeaking. Not loud, but, just like a low toned wheeking all the time! I'm scared its because they are unhappy.. or are they just 'talking' to eachother? UPDATE! Brand new pictures of the boys. I was away travelling for 5 days last week. So my wonderful mum looked after them whilst I was away. I was greeted with lots of wheeks! I've just unpacked my suitcase. Exploring inside it, I think this is their way of saying, 'your not going without us again!'

awww they are so cute!!! I always wonder what that constant wheeking is about too -- I just figure they want something -- anything -- like attention! You've got adorable piggies

If it is a low, regular wheek, they are talking to each other. They do have long conversations. Some pigs have a lot to say.
If they want to get your attention, they get it with specific sounds, volume, etc., that get your attention. If they aren't wheeking to invade your thoughts, they are just talking.
I've even had pigs that talk to themselves, just wander around the cage wheeking softly as if thinking out loud, lol!!!

Haha, oh well thats good then! I didnt want it to be because they are upset. They are very talkative, Every morning as soon as they hear me moving or hear my voice they wheek very loud! (Probably because they know they are about to be fed ) To get my attention they often nussle into my hand or nudge my hand. I think its really sweet.

Hehe yeah, they are very talkative today. I've just cleaned out their hutch, so they've been out most of the afternoon in their run on the grass. Yes Brillo looks very huggable. But he is very energetic and isn't the cuddling type.. (Unless he lets me know he wants some fuss.) I've been noticing today that they have been getting a little irritated with eachother.. The space and run outside did them good I think, Having some space of their own for a while. Brillo is very vocal and wheeks at the sound of my voice or my movement. Jackson is very affectionate, laid back and curious all at the same time! Its great having two so different.

I've bought my boys a brand new play pen today! They have been out all day, as its been pretty warm. This afternoon, I was watching them in their run, and thought to myself about getting them a play pen. That way I can climb in and have a cuddle too! So, I bought them one. They loved it! I also got them an igloo hidey today, their very first one. They loved that too! When I first climbed into the play pen they were a little nervous. But they were soon sniffing, nibbling shoes and climbing onto me. It was very sweet! After a while Jackson began to run around the pen wheeking and climbing back onto me, I hope that means he was happy! When it was time to take them back to their hutch, Jackson let me pick him up fine but Brillo was a different story... He ran around the pen so fast, and would not let me even touch him. In the end I ended up coaxing him into his hay box, and picked him up in that. It took ages though! I know the process probably stressed him out, but he brings on the situation himself by not letting me pcik him up. Its the same in the pen. Jackson lets me stroke him all the time, he loves it, but even if you slightly touch Brillo he wheeks and runs off so fast! I feel so guilty at the moment! I wish Brillo would be more.. tame. He's just so so timid.

The way to deal with Brillo is to cut out the flight reflex as much as possible. Try to train him to come into a box (hay box, padded shoe box with one ed cut off, upturned pigloo). Place a treat at the back and only lift it gently when they are relaxed and happy with the box. I used to call walkie walkie walkie, but you will have to create your own ritual. If necessary, tap him gently on the back, like piggy nudging him on. At first, you can also pick him up but only to go into the box, when he doesn't get it and panics. That way, he'll learn. Give him lots of praise and a little treat. Some piggies have stronger survival instincts than others. It is just the way they are and you have to work with that. We always have to respect that piggies are prey animals. This was Llewelyn's "shuttle" which I always used to pick him up, whether to cuddle him or take him to or fro from the lawn. He came from a very bad place and his survival instincts were ever so trigger happy. It took me over a year to untrain them.
