Okay. I had given up on the quote option, too, as mine never seemed to work. Now I know why.

Isn't it - anytime someone says or does something nice, why not give them a karma!
Some people smite too but I think that's naughty (Crouchyy).

What is this treachery! Treen whenever someone spoke down to you or argued against you I smote them into the negatives! I use it only for good, you can trust me. I did it for you! I did it for us.

Saw this thread by accident and just wanted to comment- I'm assuming the Karma option was replaced with the "like" button? I prefer it this way; in any case, this place is so pleasant I honestly couldn't ever see myself using the "smite" button on anyone here.
I've seen this on other boards but the results were usually quite ridiculous- less popular members had vast penalties (I think the maximum negative was -65535)
One other board I frequent has the "like" button; there are times when I wish it had the "smite" button to discourage posts of a certain nature. (I'm just venting here; the board in question is full of good people aside from one member who posts random garbage but technically isn't doing anything severe enough for the staff to ban him. Many of us just use the "ignore" option, but it'd be nicer if a moderator would just blast him clean off the board.)

Yes, I think you're right, liking replaced karma. I didn't use it much for a long time, but do think it's good for those times you don't necessarily have something to add to a conversation, but want someone to know you enjoyed or appreciated their post.
We had a bit of fun with the smiting feature, but I can totally see things like that going wrong!

You are so right Baz love, I have been on forums in the past where one or two people have spoilt things, that is what I love about this one, we are all really good pals. I love the "like" button on this forum and because I enjoy so many, I use it quite a lot.
Hugs Jo xx

I never used the Karma or Smite options. Just never even thought to. I only started using the Like button recently, and only for posts where I didn't really have a reply worth posting, but wanted the poster to know I liked the post. I've been on a couple of forums that needed a Smite button, too, so I totally understand.

I only started using the Like button recently, and only for posts where I didn't really have a reply worth posting, but wanted the poster to know I liked the post. I've been on a couple of forums that needed a Smite button, too, so I totally understand. When I used to visit an Indiana Jones message board, there was always someone getting a new hat, or a new bullwhip, or some related memorabilia- and initially it was a joy to post, "great hat!", or something similar. But after awhile, you've posted compliments to nearly a hundred members and it starts to feel repetitive. You don't want to ignore the post, but to type "Nice hat" one more time is unbearable. So, the "like" button is a wonderful alternative.

That's it, exactly. I don't always even have a comment, but I liked the post, so having the button is nice.
