We have had sooooooo much rain these past few days - the grass was all squishy when you walked on it and mud ooosed up between your toes. My neighbors yard flooded; so he took the girls (dogs) over to play in his yard-lake. They ran, and splashed, and flopped, and returned covered in mud!!! - lol

Aw, they'll work off their winter weight mom. Lots of good rolls in the grass, some trees to climb, they'll all be fit and trim!!!
The ponds are looking great. I always wanted one, but as I'm terrified of snakes that can hide in tall plants, hub said no because he would have to care for it. So I will vicariously enjoy yours, lol!!!

The pond was looking so great - then it happened again; the pump got knocked over and drained the water out of the pond to under the pond causing the liner to lift!!! So an emergency evacuation of the fish to the small pond - everybody was ok. I dug the hole again, for the 3rd time, and placed the pond liner back. A few of the plants around the pond have been broken, but they should recover. As I went to put the fish back into the big pond last night I could not find my butterfly koi - how can you loose a big 12 inch fish in a tiny pond? Did he jump? I lost my calico koi from jumping out of the new pond shortly after my move. No fish found.... This morning I looked out my bedroom window to see a huge Heron standing near my pond; I banged on the window glass and frightened it away. I left the cats out to keep the bird(s) away - unfortunately it looks like we are going to have another huge storm, poor wet cats...but hopefully I'll have fish left in the pond when I get home. R.I.P. Butterfly Koi

Oh, no. You have a heron fast food restaurant there. GLad you got the big pond working again. Is there any kind of screen cover you can use to protect the ponds? Do you think the pump was tipped over by a fish poaching animal? I hope you get it sorted so the cats can come in out of the rain!!!

Yes I have used a metal flower rod to keep the spout of the pump/fountain from tipping and some big rocks - I think it may have been baby birds taking baths; the same thing happened this exact same time last year. something knocked it over...
Im very sad my koi is gone - and I'm not sure if Big Fish is still there, I saw one orange fish but could not tell if it was Big Fish or Little Fish. Calico is ok and Big Baby too - I don't know if I lost any or how many of the babies.
I got a new Koi -I named him Gabriel, he is black with a bit of yellow - hopefully he'll stay hidden in the dark water - I put so much blue shade in the water this morning its almost black!!!
LOL - the cat's are all dry now!

Thanks - it may be just a fish to some, but it was my fish; and loved just as much as any of my furry/feathered friends. A critter is eating my strawberry's! They are turning red, and are so yummy its hard to resist... I don't mind sharing them with wild critters but to take a few bites out of each juicy red berry and then leave them is just wasteful! Indy enjoyed the critter nibbled berries this morning, a few critter nibbles don't bother her one bit. I may need to put up a fence around the garden this year. Nobody has bothered the lettuce or swiss chard - yet. But when the tomatoes come in I know Indy will be eating them off the vine...like she does every year. The GP girls go bonkers for the home grown lettuce. No luck finding two red fish in the pond last night - Big Fish and Calico (M) were spawning, flopping over the plants to lay eggs but I have not seen any fish flopping...I still can't tell if Big Fish & Little Fish are both there yet...

Fingers crossed for big fish and little fish and their babies. I hope the heron didn't get them, too. There is berry netting, though I have never grow berries so have no idea how easy it is to use or how effective it is.
Glad to know I'm not the only one whose dog like veggies, lol!!!

M.I.A./R.I.P. Little Fish & Big Fish. It has been a very sad week.... Calico and a bunch of his babies and Gabriel are doing ok; I haven't been able to spot Big Baby - but they are all staying hidden in the dark water.
The critter ate a bunch of strawberries like 8 - and they were not even ripe!!!! But didn't touch the yummy read leaf lettuce next to them - think its a chipmunk or squirrel doing the nibbling.

The "New" Pond...again - third times a charm Heron proofed with a fishing line web: New friends; Gabriel Koi & a tadpole, Kiva (cat) approves: Dovie-wovies! Edel (white), Latte (ivory) & Truffles (blond): Kiva wonders where the cabana boy is with that drink she ordered! Recycling is so much work for lazy dogs. Mushka strikes a pose...vogue Nobody is going to nibble the strawberries when Suchimu is on guard duty! ...meanwhile, hours later - lol sleepy Indy.

Great pics! I have a strawberry plant as well though not at big as yours as I only have a balcony as my backyard. Its a hanging strawberry plant. I enjoy gardening, wish I had a backyard to do it in for real. What is a heron?

A Heron is the most fowl creature on the planet...ok not really buy I do not like them one bit; they are on my 'things I don't like list' along with needles, monkeys & gangster rap music!!! In Michigan we have Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) the largest North American heron, with a head-to-tail length of 91–140 cm (36-55 in), a wingspan of 167-201 cm (66-79 in) - they are HUGE, they eat fish, frogs, snakes, & mice whole! It's also a "protected" species, but I still don't like them eating my pet fish!!! - I hope the stupid bird choked on Big Fish!!!

I see!!! I like your "do not like list" lol, gangster rap music, I hate that too! You dont like needles? You sew? Or do you mean needles to get your blood drawn? Yup thats probably what you meant. Gosh I'm stupid! deer.
The Heron reminds me of a pelican.

Last night I sat and watched the pond with my kitties; I turned off the fountain so I could have a better look at the fish. The babies are getting so big, and I think its spawning time, I found some fish eggs on the plants - Calico, Big Fish & Little Fish were spawning last month... I miss my red fish. As we watched the fishies swim a little guy jumped up out of the water - it startled me, but a few moments later it happened again. The fish were chasing each-other all around, then one would jump up out of the water - maybe they were catching the little bugs that were close to the surface. The non-GP girls, and a few boy doves are outside today - they are on pond protection duty. I left the sun-room door open just enough for Indy to get in and out; the house is all locked up, so no worries - plus I don't think anyone would enter the yard with two big dogs running about; especially one that looks like Indy...plus my neighbor is home and she keeps an eye on my girls. This morning I looked out my window down at the pond and I saw a little fishy jump up...releasing eggs on the plants? That is what Big Fish and Calico would do - swim over the tops of the plants and release the eggs. As I was watching I suddenly saw a big flash of red come up to the surface and flop over a plant...it was Little Fish!!!!!! I'm so happy, I thought she was gone, but she has just been hiding.

INDY-ANNA!!!! Apparently my bed of lilies (seen in photo above) makes a better dog bed!!! A few stems snapped but most were just laying down under the weight of the dog. Indy loves this flower bed - she dug up all the lily bulbs last year the day after I planted them, and then planted herself in the cool dirt hole. I spent all evening carefully lifting the bulbs/plants and replant them - added a garden fencing which I hope keeps her out. The dark burgundy lilies bloomed this morning.

You are having such a time with that heron. Glad Little Fish was still around and not a heron casualty. I hope it's moved on and will leave your fish alone.
We have the same herons here, and love watching them fly. Did you know they also kill Red Winged Black birds? They compete for the same food, frogs , and the herons will actually spear the RWB birds with their bills in midflight. Glad I haven't seen that.

Oh, too bad the bulbs got dug up. I hope they won't suffer from it.
