Love the cage! Wonderful space for doing everything a piggy wants to do. You could drape some hand towels over the sides as pass-through hidies/play places, or put one of those molded plastic step stool in the middle like an activity hub! If you're anything like me, you have endless ideas of what to do with it!
I just noticed your Mr. Pignut picture from April. Wonderful! I hope the running lice infestation didn't last too long.

I have SO many ideas, you're right! Don't have all the materials I need yet, though. I'll keep you guys updated with pics.

I think I change the cage a bit every time I change the bedding. I don't have a lot of different things, but I move them around and keep the pigs interested.

My poor baby Mimi has had such a rough time lately. She seems to be experiencing frequent congestion/runny nose, so its back to the vet this morning. I really want a permanent solution to this problem. Last time we were there and I brought it up to the other exotic vet at that location, he completely dismissed the problem. However, the one I'm seeing today is more proactive so I'm hoping we can get this fixed once and for all!

Mimi's visit went well this morning. The doc gave her an anti-inflammatory shot (the cries were heartbreaking, I had to cover my ears!!!), and now she's on Baytril and Doxycycline again. I'll be sure to give her probiotics, and I'm continuing to hand feed her twice daily with Critical Care to supplement- the vet said it was a good idea even though she's eating a little, since her weight is still so low. She's down to 1.3 lbs now. At her largest, she was 1.8, so she's always been a tiny girl. She's also got a fresh wound on her already recently-blinded eye... yes, the same one that got wounded before, because of her head tilt. My poor baby... Otherwise, she's in good spirits, and seems bright and alert when we get her out. She does spend most of her time in the house, though. The rest of my girls are doing well, despite becoming a little chunky (Sika just weighed in at 3.1 lbs!!!). I'm gravitating more towards a low-pellet diet now, since I've got so much hay lying around! I'll be posting more recent pictures or a video sometime soon.

Poor baby! Have tried orchard hay or sweet meadow hay? It is more expensive, but soft. It's likely she's getting the eye pokes from even tiny stiff stalks of hay. You may also have to do eye drops or gel all the time, even just once a day, to fight off infections. She is so lucky to have you to care for her.
Pigs get allergies, even hay fever, and the allergies can become chronic. My Molly has allergies, always had a runny nose and got stuffed up regularly, but her lungs were clear. I had her on a maintenance dose of Chlor-Trimeton, which seemed to do the job. Good luck with that!!!

Well that's the thing- the hay we're using is the consistency of orchard grass, if not softer. I think she's just running into the houses when she's trying to find the entrance- I've witnessed this on several occasions. She does hold her head EXTREMELY sideways. We are going to be doing long-term eye drops.
I had actually asked the vet if he thought it was allergies, but he didn't seem to think so. There's been a pretty common parasite linked with chronic respiratory disease in rodents that he thinks may be the cause, and the current long-term plan is to treat her for that after she finishes this round of antibiotics.
Just in case it is allergies, though, I have been spritzing the hay lightly with water from a spray bottle to settle the particles. Before we got her to the vet, I was giving her Benadryl for some relief on an as-needed basis, but it didn't really seem to do anything but make her tired.
As of right this second though, Mimi is very spunky. That anti-inflammatory shot seems to have done wonders!

Consider something like pipe insulation around the doors, so she bumps into something soft. It comes in long strips of different widths, has an opening to fit it over the pipes, and is pretty soft. Probably not the best for pigs to chew, but worth a try.
Molly's vet said pigs can get a chronic virus in their sinuses, similar to an endless head cold. She didn't say anything about a parasite, but likely it's the same diagnosis. If the vet is willing to treat for the parasite, that's great. Most vets don't seem willing to do maintenance doses of drugs, only all or nothing.

Yes, Mimi seems to be doing the best that I've seen her in months!!! She has made great progress and is getting bold enough to move around in the cage again, and even romp around/(attempted) popcorning! Popcorning doesn't work out so well of her, of course, because she's still stumbling around quite a bit while just walking. There is marked progress though, definitely. I'm confident that she's adapting to her new "normal".
