AI
(We saw The Creator this weekend - not the greatest film about AI by a long way, but mildly entertaining if you can put aside gaping plot holes!)

Assistance
I wonder if there were a lot of gaping holes in the plot because the producers rushed into something they thought was timely, instead of really getting to know what it was all about. It's been around for ages, but it's starting to become known to the public, and everyone is trying to cash in.

animal
It's weird as there are much older films that did it far better, despite knowing a fraction of what we do now. And just the whole element of how humans and AI interact - there was one soldier who had been working undercover to destroy all AI, but had clearly formed attachments and gone rogue, but the army continued to put him in situations of trust where he could massively mess things up because of those divided loyalties.

I think the idea of AI came out in movies long before AI was actually a tool. Vic used it back at FIRST, so that was 4-10 years ago. At first it was robots taking over the world only done with AI taking over the world. Now it's actually a tool that can put people like writers out of business. That's the reason for the SAG-AFTRA strike, not letting AI write shows. I think I've tried to watch some shows written by AI, and they weren't very good. Not all human writers are great, but the understand the flow of language in ways AI still doesn't seem to understand. It also learns using algorithms that don't always get it right, like telling children how to cheat on tests in school, or how to get away with disobeying their parents. Not how to make yourself popular with those paying the bills, AI Lantern

I'm not sure I've seen any shows with scripts written by AI, but I did see a fun episode of Black Mirror called Joan is Awful, where a woman put on an episode of a Netflix-type show one evening to find out it was basically her life - literally what had happened to her that day in each episode. It used data collected from all her devices - she'd signed away the rights to any privacy in some unreadable T&Cs. The episode used AI and CGI to recreate what had happened (but hammed up for dramatic effect) within minutes of it happening, and the woman it was based on, Joan, was played by Salma Hayek in the TV version. Salma had also signed away the use of her likeness without realising, so they were using a deepfake version of her to save on the cost of hiring actors as well as meaning they could turn around an episode in hours. It was interesting!

Extrasensory
That really sucks, and I know what it's like. FB requires access to all the photos on my phone, if I want to post any pictures to Facebook. It keeps posting all the photos, from shopping lists to license plates of cars parked in odd places at odd time. I have to keep going into my photos and deleting anything I don't want. Facebook asks if I want to post any of those. They kept asking me to post my phone number, and I kept saying no, so they posted it anyway. I have to go back in and take it out of there, again. Not at all sure if there's anything I can do to stop them from just rampaging through my phone and taking my photos. I may have to go back to using my old phone with no phone number!

I may have to go back to using my old phone with no phone number! That's exactly what I do. I have an old phone with no SIM card that is my Facebook phone. WiFi only and if necessary I'll set up a hotspot. I'm not a big user/fan of FB and I'm never going to use FB on my regular phone.

Shades, I was doing that, but the new phone has such a great camera, I started taking pictures with that, and posting them on Facebook. Looks as if I'm going to have to go back to a little less picture perfection to keep Facebook out of my private areas. So far I've had two people call me, and I can't even find where my phone number is listed, anymore. FB makes it very hard to actually protect our privacy, by making it very hard to find where they've put the most private things.
