it's still 8 hours, about as much as going to New Jersey, which is about 9-10 hours if you don't stop.
Though he's been like that since i have him i think (since i'm alone here i mean, not with my ex-girlfriend), i remember Mooshi not being like that before, but when we broke up, she took him with her, and had him for a long time before telling me to take it. It's not something new, when he's in his cage, he doesn't whine like this normally.
I brush him sometimes with a brush with some kind of slim metal bristles which look crooked, i think it's not rough on the skin, and it's easy to clean the brush from the fur stuck on it.

I'm just estimating the time. Driving through Vermont is like flying at ground level, so add 30 mph to just about any speed in that state I keep intending to get a passport, as we used to go to Canada regularly. Just not that far. New Hampshire had just changed over to a whole new drivers license system, when the US government/borders changed to either passports or the new federal license that lists all the important info in the magnetic strip. Pigs do remember their history for quite a long time. He may miss something he had with her, but you just make new good times with him. Try the things I suggested. It's often that simple. Just take any trauma out of the snuggling process, let him adjust, and I think he'll be fine. If not, let us know, as it may be mites.

if he do have mites...it might hurt him all the time, right? because he seem alright in his cage, and when i can pet him gently in his cage, he doesn't whine. Yes i know it suck to be forced to get a passport to cross the border...it's like another reason why there are maybe less tourists here, i don't know. edit: here are 2 videos of my guinea pig, they aren't new, but it's only to show my guinea pig here This one is old though, it was when i was in apartment with my now ex-girlfriend. He was doing those noises because he seem to be sensitive to high-pitched sounds, and my camera seem to have those sounds, but then i disabled this option in my camera later. This one is newer. The noises you hear from the beginning of the video is actually me, doing cute noises to him: As i watched the 2nd video...i think i can notice this lump under his chin, the fur make some kind of rounded bump there. It's more near his front legs than up on the chin.

In the first video, he is talking to you. He seems quite vocal that way. My Morty is vocal, and when I pick him up, he tells me the same long story. In the second video he is quite willing to come right up to the camera and check it out. He is not attacking or running away in fear. Everything I saw was a happy guinea pig talking and being inquisitive. I couldn't see any lump, only the fleshy rounded part over the chest, so can't help you there, sorry. I don't think he's doing more than telling you a long story. It may be about how much you've interrupted his plans by picking him up, but that's all. Spoke to a Facebook friend in Montreal. He said he comes down here regularly, and it's about a 5.5 hour drive. So it's still a decent distance, but not as far as I thought. last time we went, we lived a bit closer, and it took us about 4.5 hours. Not sure why I thought it took so much longer to go another 50 miles!

These days, since he's been feeling better, he's often being insistant on "talking" to me and wanting me to come near him, because once i get near him, he'll most likely stop, and if i walk away, he's going to do it again, most of the time if i give him enough of that "alfalfa and timothy" mix i got here, he's going to eat it and stop being insistent. I might make a video soon to show you this new behavior of my guinea pig, and the whining when i have him on my lap or in a towel when i want to pet him on me. Though he doesn't always do it, it seem like i have to reassure him a bit, then he'll stop, but later doing it again probably because he's getting tired or annoyed about it. I remember him pulling on the towel when he was getting annoyed of being held and petted, but that was when he was younger, now he doesn't do that.

Most guinea pigs try not to pee on people. They will do something to tell you they need to go back in the cage/carrier to pee. People tend not to pay attention. That's why the padded carrier is such a great idea. If he needs to get off you, he can go back in the carrier. You can still pet him, and there are more options than petting or going back to the cage.
Does he get any floor time for exercise. The cage looks like a store bought, which is small for even one pig. Taking out houses and putting in platforms that service as space over/sleeping under increases the amount of roaming/exercise space he has. Since he is a single pig, he may not be too adventurous on the open floor, but creating a bigger area full of tubes, cardboard boxes, etc. he can play in and through, will get him move a lot more. Pigs need exercise, just as people do.
If he talks when you approach and leave the cage, he is probably bored and lonely, and wants company. He settles for the hay, but would love to have someone to talk to him while he eats it. Where is the cage located, and could it be moved to an area where you spend more time? A lot of people think it's better to shut them up in a bedroom, but it's not. They like to be where life is happening around them, and they can participate!

the cage is in the front of the house, in the living room, near the TV and my computer. He's been a bit more quiet today, but i do try to be near him more often than before.

Sounds good! Talk to him. Just include him in your life. Use his name a lot so he knows you're talking to him.

i do say his name often, it's cute to watch him eat. Sometimes he whine when he's in his house, most often after turning it around and he think he's "blocked" inside maybe. I always put an empty paper towel roll in the cage. I also have a little white thing attached on a cage bar, you know those hard stone-like things that rodents are supposed to use for their teeth. I think i only saw him nibble on it once.

Try a stuffed animal, one small enough to fit in his house. Momo has plush pals in her cage with her, and they do move around the cage.

One lot of my boys dislike anything with eyes! They freak out! I have to lay any toys upside down!
I had a disaster a few weeks ago, where I put little fishy stickers around their cage and Ulysses had a melt down! He literally sat at the other end of the cage huddled up staring at the offending stickers! I had to remove them immediately!

i do put a My Melody plastic figure in the cage, you know, those you could get at McDonald's with a kid's meal or something.

They can't cuddle with hard, plastic figures, but having a plushy about their size seems to help. I find anything with plastic parts like eyes get ignored or chewed. For company, I would get a soft plushy for him. Doesn't have to be fancy or expensive, just a presence.

Mine never did. Momo pulls hers around her cage sometimes, as it ends up in all sorts of places, but never chewed on it. Don't get a Beany Baby, as they are filled with tiny round plastic beans. Get any kind of small, soft toy. They like the company!

I buy plushy toys from charity shops, just cost penny's there. They like furry hot water bottle covers that we need in Scotland in winter time! Secondhand is fine for piggies, just wash them first. Good luck

I hadn't thought about second hand, as the ones I'm using ones I've had since I was a kid That's a great idea!
