Not to worry hunni although there is a good series set in 1973 which is "Prime Suspect 1973" when Jane Tennison was a PC. The trouble when there were women police officers back then, they were expected to do the filing and make the tea. It must have been maddening. I too don't know why everyone has to be a certain type in these programmes Piggles love, I would much prefer it if they were like real people. I must admit that there are quite a few of the characters in various things shown here now where they look much more down to earth, Vera being one of them.

I'm seeing that more in US shows, too. Not everyone is buff, gorgeous, etc. It's not that the actors and actresses who are buff and beautiful never played characters who weren't buff and beautiful, it's that normal people who weren't buff and beautiful weren't chosen to play those parts. It's like when white people played blacks, native Americans, Mexicans, etc., instead of having those people play those parts. I'm really glad to see parts in general being filled by the people who ought to be playing them. Bones finished with a great final episode. I won't give it away, in case anyone plans to watch it at another time, but it was just handled really, really well. I thought they did all the actors throughout the series proud Watched the latest episode of Origins on NatGeo last night. It really is a great series. When the hour ends and we didn't realize it had been even close to an hour, we figure it's a great series. Last nights episode was about language and communication, and how it evolved from grunting and pointing to pictures, to alphabets. Very enlightening as well as informative. I'm getting caught up on a 3-part series on PBS about prosecuting war criminals. After WWII, investigators determined there were 10s of thousands of Nazi war criminals, but they only prosecuted 1500 of them. In one case 22 were prosecuted, because there were only 22 seats in the dock, so they couldn't prosecute more than 22 people at a time. The series debates how to find the right balance between prosecuting people for war crimes, and giving the victims some closure. Should the victims get to dictate what happens to the war criminals? Should laws establish sentences based on the severity of the crime? Who should do the prosecuting, a world court, a national court, a separately convened court, etc. It turned out about 10K high ranking Nazi officers were not only protected by the German intelligence bureau after the war, but were employed by the German intelligence bureau after the war. It took until 2014 to get enough court cases to force the German intelligence bureau to turn over all the records, without redacting so much the records were useless, as they had in the past. So that was the other aspect of the debate. If war criminals are valuable as intelligence assets, should that let them off the hook for being war criminals? Obviously the victims say No. The law is ambiguous on the subject, and of course, the intelligence communities say Yes, because these war criminals are assets to them, or at least alleged assets. Really interesting series.

When people are playing parts like Red Indians or any other nationality, I like the person playing the part to be of that nationality. Like with Henry Winkler, I believe he was Jewish and I would have preferred someone Italian, as that is what he was supposed to be, to have played the part. I would love to know the ending of Bones hunni as it will not spoil it for me if I ever get around to seeing it that is.

If you're talking about Henry Winkler's role in Happy Days, he was playing a greaser, not an Italian or any other nationality. His character was low socioeconomic class, and they can be anyone. Back in the 50s, when Happy Days supposedly took place, every nationality and culture had the low end. He wasn't supposed to be a mobster or Mafia. He is Jewish, and trust me, there were Jewish greasers I watched another episode of the special on prosecuting war crimes. This one was about Rwanda and the Congo, Bosnia and Hertegovian, and Serbia. The mass rapes, and military leaders telling their soldiers they could rape women as a prize for serving in the military. This was when rape was made a war crime, as was forcing children into military service. Yet the same cultures that allowed the ethnic cleansing atrocities, didn't allow across-the-board prosecution of those people for the crimes they committed. The rape victims who pressed charges were bannished from their families and villages for having disgraced their people. So most of the rapists went without prosecution, because the victims were too afraid to testify. Military courts of all men demanded the victims be exposed, or they refused to try the men for the crimes. It was awful In Serbia/Bosnia the tribunals were met with mixed reactions, because the sides were still drawn in the battle, even if the fighting had ended. Those who supported the war criminals when they were leading the attacks, still supported them with protests and riots during the hearings. I have one episode left to watch. I can't say watching these episodes made me feel any better, and those trying the men for their crimes didn't feel they did more than make a small dent in what needed to be done. Most of the judges said they felt they convicted, imprisoned and executed some people for the crimes, but justice wasn't served at all. All those poor rape victims in Africa received no justice at all

That it is, Jo, but not all Italians are mobsters. Hubby is Italian, and a terrible one at that. He can't speak Italian enough to even pronounce the foods right. As I said, Fonzi wasn't mob, he was greaser www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=GREASER . I had forgotten about his name. Geesh, the things we forget as we get older We started watching a series called Asylum, last night. It stars the man who played the first inspector on Death in Paradise, and was dry, silly humor. There are definitely times for dry, silly humor. Vera is available on Acorn, so we will also watch that. Coroner, another British show, starts on PBS this week. It seems to be a lot like our show Major Crimes, in that while it's about a very serious and sad topic, the characters bring some levity and a lot of personality to it, so the negative aspects don't become overwhelming. We tried Hinterland, which was so dark and depressing, we gave up on it. We definitely have some series we want to watch. We just have to find the time to watch them.

I know that Piggles love and I now Fonzie wasn't mob. We are currently recording Vera so we can skip the adverts. I like the first guy who was in "Death in Paradise" he really makes me laugh with his straight laced humour.

Ben Miller. He's still doing the dry comedy he did in Death in Paradise, and it really works with the other misfit characters in Asylum Coroner starts Thursday on PBS, so I'll let you know how that is.

I too love Ben Miller. He was in a great series that used to be on called "Primeval" but he was nasty in that.

We watched Vera last night. We had trouble following what was happening, because we couldn't understand a lot of the language. It's not fun when you have to listen to every word, hoping something will make sense. Midsommer Murders are so easy to follow, as we can understand everything everyone says.
The plot had some great twists and turns, which was good, once we figured out what was happening. We weren't too pleased with her drinking on duty, and she seems to have a bit of disconnect from other people, such as not even asking her first mate what his wife had for a baby, or answering when he asked her to be the godmother. Maybe if we'd understood the discussion at her late father's house, it would have made more sense, but we couldn't really catch what she was saying.
Also, a lot of the scenes were filmed as if they were using a GoPro camera, with all the bouncing and swaying of walking along with the actors and actresses. I have a lot of trouble with motion, and that was making me nauseous. We'll try it again next week, and really hope it's easier to follow. I hope that camera use isn't in the other episodes. I'm thinking it might have been easy to read the books.

I know love, the Geordie accent is hard to follow if you are not familiar with it. I agree, struggling to listen spoils any programme. I do love her though. Here she is a Detective Chief Inspector which is a high rank and she calls everyone "Pet" (a Geordie term of affection) and "Love". She is brilliant at her job and is always comforting to those in distress.

First I had to google Geordie, which discussed the conurbation of the area, so I had to google conurbation. I now know a lot more about that area than I probably need to, lol Is it a sunny area in general, or generally dreary? Some of the scenes were extremely dreary, yet it's hard to know if that's the real weather, or a sort of film noir effect the director was using. She did seem to care about others, yet have a lot of trouble relating to herself, or how she fit with the others around her. I felt a bit sad for her seeming to be so insular at times. We'll try the show again next week, and I hope the language gets easier to understand. We just spent too much time wondering how we got here from where we thought we were. Tried watching Bull again, last night. It's still too slow. Well crafted in general, but when we get to the first commercial break and realize the show isn't even half over, and we feel as if we've been watching for a really long time, that's not for us. We watch enough shows that end before we're ready to see the characters off, and with us feeling as if we just started the show, that to have to slog through one that seems endless just isn't fun.

It is like reading a book you don't like Piggles love, life is too short. Move onto another one which will be better. Yes Vera does care about others but she has her own demons. You should see her when she is all made up and pretty, you wouldn't recognise her. It is a really bleak area piggles love and although I have never been there, I believe that the sun shines very rarely.

I couldn't live where the sun doesn't shine a lot of the time. Dark, dreary days wreak havoc on depression sufferers. We need a lot of sunshine.
Coroner starts tonight, so I'll let you know how that is.

Even though I suffer from depression the bad weather doesn't really affect me. It maybe that many of the bad things that have happened to me have happened in summer so I tend to feel worse during that time. Coroner is brilliant. I am reading Hannibal Rising at the moment and really enjoying it.

I think we do make those connections, so if summer holds a lot of bad memories, it's just not a time you enjoy, and you're primed for it not to be good. Hannibal rising is a bit too much for me, but I finally gave up on Criminal Minds, as the level of violence became too much for me to manage. I'm glad you're enjoying it. It was supposed to be a really good book! Coroner was great! We liked the characters, and we really liked the way the story line and the characters developed together, nothing forced. In one scene, she's dressed in her go-to-court clothes, with the fancy white bib, and tries, unsuccessfully, to eat french fries with catsup. I'm about to say "That catsup would definitely land on my front," and bingo, it landed on hers, lol We highly enjoyed it

Very true Piggles, I just wished I loved the summer like everyone else. I love Criminal Minds for that very reason, it is gritty and doesn't beat about the bush but I know it isn't for everyone. I am about half way through Hannibal Rising and I haven't come across anything awful yet, perhaps that is to come. We love The Coroner too Piggles although it isn't on here at the moment. I have always liked the girl who plays the part and it makes all the difference when you like the people in something. We watched "Lethal Weapon" last night and were in fits of laughter for some of it. It is brilliant and I think it deserves awards.

Glad you liked Lethal Weapon. Of all this year's TV shows that are remakes of old shows or movies, we think Lethal Weapon is the best. I hope it got enough of the viewers to be renewed for next year.
I'm not a summer lover, either, Jo, though if it's not terribly hot, I can tolerate it. I don't have bad memories connected to summer. I just don't do well in heat. This past summer was a scorcher for me, so I hope we do better this year. I will help to have the veggie garden going, especially as I plant flowers to help ward off the bug, so It's pretty while we're waiting for the veggies to grow. I just try to find as many ways as possible to make it as acceptible as possible. So far, so good. It's too bad you can't find at least one thing that is summer related, that would make you look forward to it.

I really hope they make more series of Lethal Weapon Piggles hunni, I fail to see how it can't be popular. When it isn't funny it is serious quality drama. Me too lovey, yesterday and today have been the only decent days we have had this year and whilst I like seeing the sunshine, I have been overheated and I hate it. So, guess what, I know you aren't going to believe this but I have been moaning LOL!! When I think of lovely big bumble bees in summer it makes me happy as I just adore them. Sometimes I just watch them on their bushes outside my window and I so wish I could hold them and make friends with them. I have done in the past when I have been out, I just let them crawl onto my hand and it is a lovely feeling.

I not only believe you've been moaning, I'll be moaning along with you. Tomorrow is supposed to be in the mid 70s, and Tuesday could hit 80 or a bit higher. Way too early in the year to run the a/c. Once the real summer heat arrives, I'm stuck in the house, which I really don't like. I have to walk, garden or whatever really early, sometimes before 8 a.m., to beat the heat, and that's no fun, having to get up at the crack of dawn just to do anything outside. I do it, but I complain a lot. We get weather reports with hourly breakdowns, so I can check the night before, and see how early I have to get out the next morning, to beat the heat.
We used to have a Spring and Fall, when we didn't need either heat or a/c, and we could do outdoor things that ought to be done, without dying of the heat. I remember Halloween 1981, I was pregnant with daughter, who was born about a month later. The kids were trick or treating in the costumes, and dying of the heat, which was up around 85 degrees. That is the end of October! I guess I should be happy that I at least have a/c, so I can hide indoors, and the piggies are also comfy. Having the generator also means I no longer have to worry about the a/c going out in even a short power cut, while I'm out, and having to load Pigloo City with containers of ice.
I think the best thing about summer, other than gardening, is eating much liter foods than we do in the winter. I make a lot of cold salads, and have some great ideas for new salads for this summer, as well as drinking a lot of fruit smoothies that are high in nutrients, and low in fat calories. Also fruit is generally in season so on sale, which makes it less expensive to make smoothings in the summer.
