Ugh! I hope you can treat the pregnant cat. Never had that problem, so really don't know. Good luck. It does seem to be pouring down problems, doesn't it!

Bad comes with good, I seem to have a great new job, so dealing with the other problems just shows my determination.
I'm not sure if I can treat a pregnant cat, but I know there must be something I can do to deal with the fleas.
Are they a concern for Alfonz?

Fleas are usually species specific, and I've never seen much about fleas and guinea pigs. Might be worth googling!

My medical book doesn't even mention fleas. Some forums have discussions and Guinea Lynx has this: www.guinealynx.info/parasites.htmlNot much help except to repeatedly say to be very careful of OTC flea treatments, and to have a vet diagnose fleas before even starting a treatment. Basically few OTC treatments are dosed for animals as small as guinea pigs. I would check all ingredients before using any treatment, then use a dose smaller than that recommended for kittens. First, though, make sure fleas are the problem.

Our animals got fleas so badly one year, we had to do a whole house bomb to get rid of them. That was not fun, moving into a hotel for a week with two dogs and three cats. Glad the spray worked!

Gosh you guys have had big flea problems in the past. I normally buy ampules that I squeeze on the back of my dogs. However in saying that, neither of my dogs have had fleas since our cat died. Never seen fleas on my piggies either thank goodness', can piggies get fleas? It must have been horrendous leaving your home and having to deflea piggles. Alfonzo it sounds like you might have to on top of them too now xx

Yeah I try to be on top.
Where I lived growing up we had a flea plague every summer and had to spray bomb our house hence why I am able to get things dealt with immediately. Lol

We're starting to get some fleas with the dog and two cats and I've seen a couple on the piggies. My allergies/asthma prevent me from useing chemicals in the house so I was trying to find an alternative. I wondered if anyone here had had any experience with diatomaceous earth as a treatment for fleas.

Hello and welcome, Kynara! I've never known of a guinea pig to get fleas, though I think it's possible for any warm blooded animal to get them. I think piggies that interact with animals that go outdoors are more likely to get fleas, as animals that go outdoors are more likely to get fleas. We have had a few, very few, summers when the fleas and ticks were outrageous. Other years they were hardly even noticeable. That's also just in my little part of the country.

It may be that the few I've seen on the piggies have just jumped from the other animals and won't stay on the piggies. I'm a bit paranoid because about 7 years ago I had ferrets and they got fleas really bad one year. (They never went outside, just got them from the dog that did)
