It amazes me how they can make cylindrical tunnels out of their hay, they are perfect.

I know! I wonder if that's how the hay parts when they go through, if it's basically a piggy-shaped tunnel, or what?

It looks as if it has been sculptured to a perfect cone but they only have their own little bodies to make it Hugs Jo xx

Josh and Cadders celebrated their 3rd birthday yesterday! As is tradition, they got their cages half filled with hay (and we picked some fresh grass and dandelions and mixed them in with the hay for some foraging fun!). A recent photo of each of them - Cadders. And Josh (it was his little leg that led me to take this picture, but his botty probably stands out more?!) with Rocky hanging out in the hammock behind him.

Another feet shot from Poppy - you can't beat different coloured feet! And a quick shot of the pigs we had staying with us while their owners were on holidays. They came to us as girls, but were quickly diagnosed with a sex change! They're really sweet boys but still pretty skittish - the suspicious way they're looking looking at me in this photo is typical of the looks I got all week!

I can't believe how big these pigs look compared to ours. What are you feeding them? Ours seem so small. Small enough that I can carry one in one hand - they're one year old.

Fish and chips, toad in the hole, roast beef - that kind of stuff!
These boys are actually pretty small compared to boars I've had before - I've had a couple that have been over 3lb (and not overweight!). My current pigs are all around the 2lb 7oz mark. Our holiday boys didn't get weighed but they were definitely under 2lb - they're only about 6-8 months old though, all mine are adults.
But really, they get a few pellets (which are gone within a few minutes - they'd love to have more and get even bigger!), loads of hay and a handful of veg per day. No protein shakes or chicken sandwiches.
Your two do still look young, especially the one on the right - how much do they weigh? I know some breeds tend to be bigger than others and I wonder if there's any variance by country in terms of the genetic pool available? I understand their wild relatives in South America tend to be much bigger than domestic guinea pigs.
Forgot to mention it was Poppy's 4th birthday recently too - another mound of hay, another cucumber cake!

Yours look really young. One year is barely hitting young adulthood. We were looking at some pictures of Morty and the girls, when they first joined him. They were about a year old, and so tiny. I haven't weighed them in a while, but they have definitely put some meat on their bones Oodles is definitely heavier than Noodles, but they're both solid girls Your pigs will get bigger. I feed mine unlimited hay and water. You've seen pictures of Pigloo City, so you know what I mean by unlimited hay! They have pellets, but they don't over eat pellets. They do get veggie treats, but only sporadically as treats. They will drop everything for fresh hay, so that's definitely what they really want. I don't give them any extra vitamins, either. You're girls are adorable, and I'm sure they're going to grow into beautiful guinea girls Aw, nice to meet the girls who turned out to be boys, and I'm so glad they were both the same sex! They don't smile, do they? I hope that can change. Piggies deserve to be able to smile Love the leg action, and you're right about the different colored feet

BeanI must admit I've been a bit lax with the weighing lately. I used to do it weekly, honestly I'll get out the scales later. Last night, I had them out on floor without any fencing whilst their cage was cleaned. They were a little nervous and I said I could leave them all night and they'd still be on the cloth in the morning. Big mistake! After they'd snacked a little, they got some Dutch courage and wandered off for a little exploration

They're so diddy and cute!
I'd probably be rubbish at remembering to weigh my lot anything close to regularly, but my daughter takes these sorts of things very seriously so reminds me to!

The bigger one is 1010g and the smaller one is 820g. They're not eating any less but they're not putting on loads of weight. Looking at your photos, ours are seriously skinny.

Didn't you say it was hellishly hot where you are? Most animals slow their food intake in extreme heat/humidity, as they aren't doing as much activity as they would when it's colder, and they are trying to preserve the energy they have. It was probably a bit cooler on the floor, so once they got their bearings, they were willing to explore on the cool floor.
Weighing is important, but so is knowing when they're not acting normally, and recognizing changes in the poos that don't reflect changes to their diets. It's a great tool, but it's only one tool, and since piggies make it as difficult as possible for us to know when they are suffering, we need as many tools as possible. I tend to weigh mine when I think something is wrong. Then I might even weight them daily.

They do love their cool vegetables though. One thing that is different is that they're hiding under the hay more so than just lounging around. I wonder if it's cooler there. A kind of haygloo. If I can get enough hay, I can do an experiment

I think it is cooler under there. I know mine love to get under the hay, and while they stick out their noses for treats or to get petted, they will stay under the hay for long periods of time. Maybe the hay creates a little extra shade? I don't know. I just know it's a piggy favorite

Josh and Rocky sunbathing yesterday. Cads and Pops didn't face the same way for me, so separate ones of them!
