Sounds like a good plan. I avoid anesthesia if at all possible, too. When Zippy was limping for a month, it was a soft tissue injury. Painful but nothing that could be fixed. Same with Molly. I kept watching her until I found where she was hurting herself, and removed that obstacle. She healed and didn't have any other problems. I hope that's the case with Cadders, and it doesn't take too much longer.

He seems okay, thanks - I definitely feel he's getting more comfortable all the time. Whether the meds are just taking hold or the original problem is resolving, I have no idea. But I'm hoping it's the latter!

I'm glad you are seeing improvement. I hope it continues, and he doesn't need the meds for too long.

Last night I nearly forgot to give him his meds, and it was purely because there was nothing from looking at him that reminded me he wasn't 100% (not that those signs aren't there at times, but he's even been lying down differently over the last couple of weeks, so my first thought on looking at him has always been concern). So that's a good sign. I will continue with them for now anyway, to make sure he doesn't go backwards.

Excellent!!! We do notice even the most subtle changes, so it's great that he's back to what you consider normal. Chances are he hurt himself doing something (pulled a muscles, sprained something, or even just bruised something really badly). I never did figure out what caused Zippy to limp for a month, but I did figure out how Molly hurt herself, and removed that obstacle. Great news!

His legs have seemed totally fine for the last few days, and he's no longer making any complaints about being handled. So I'm going to bring him off the anti-inflammatories and hope it lasts - he's been on them for nearly 2 weeks now. I shall be watching closely for any setbacks, but think it'll be useful to know if he is better now, or if the meds are just managing the symptoms of something longer term. I can get him straight back on them if there's any inkling that he's not as happy.

I'm glad he's doing so much better, and I hope it's not just the meds. If it is though, you've got more meds, so you're covered. All digits crossed for him to be back to normal

I think he needs to be on the meds for a while longer. He seemed fine for the first couple of days, and although he's carried on walking normally and has been active and happy, he started lying with his feet pulled up, which he did when he was having problems. He also started making a wary wheek when you picked him up again, like he was anticipating discomfort. So we'll give him another couple of weeks and see how he fares. This is what he does with his feet. (He looks quite chunky in this picture but he isn't - must be the angle!)

How odd, but it's definitely a sign of pain Could he have arthritis? Once he's acting okay again, you might try slowing reducing the amount of painkiller you give him, and see if there's a level you can use as a maintenance dose. Poor baby I just want to snuggle him and put him on a heating pad

He'd love the snuggle, he loves a bit of a fussing!
I was leaning towards something like arthritis. I think if it's not fully better in another week or two, it'll be looking less like a soft tissue injury and more like something long term, unfortunately. Next time I'll reduce the dose to see how he fares as although his stomach's fine now, I know that long term anti-inflammatories can upset tums.
The good thing is that on the full dose, you wouldn't think there was anything wrong with him. The worst bit was when he'd started on the meds but they hadn't kicked in and he still seemed uncomfortable - I just wanted to be able to do something else to help him.

I was going to add my 2 cents worth on that, too, Jo The last few days have been cold and raw, and I have really been hurting. I haven't even walked a mile today, all together, and I've been averaging over 2. My lower back, legs, shoulders, neck, fingers are all miserable. I did seal the shed floor today, but not without taking 4 Advil just to be able to do the job, and needing two more a few hours later, after I did the job. Vic came home from work early, so he's doing the second coat. Arthritis isn't something that ever really lets up, and different weather conditions, amounts and types of activity, all set it off differently. We have had a cold, raw week, and I'm feeling it. If he has arthritis, he'll need some long-term relief, more sometimes than others. Putting him on a heating pad also helps, as it just helps him relax his muscles, which also hurt from arthritis. I hope he's feeling a whole lot better really soon

I'll try a heat pad again, but he's not been keen on them before. I'm not sure why. He is sensitive to heat, so I think he does steer away from even mild sources of heat - they have to almost be cool before he'll snuggle! He loves laptime though, so I figure he's getting some heat from us during that! He is gorgeous by the way, I love black piggies. Me too, they're stunning - one of my first pigs was black (Sooty originally!). Cadders is a really dark brown rather than black, but he does look very dark in that photo! Sorry you both suffer with arthritis, it must be a really hard pain to manage, especially when it flares up.

We are having a lot of rain here Piggles hunni, more than usual that is and I have been suffering. I have been using my walking frame a little more and I didn't really want to go back to it. I am so glad his heat pad is such a comfort to him love, I wish I had one, it would have to be very big though lol!! I love dark brown piggies too Bean sweetie, you don't see them that often. Merley is back and tan which seems to be quite a common colour for piggies. Thanks for your kind wishes too, I just wish I could at least walk a little way without being tired and exhausted.

Bean, I put their basket or beds on the heating pad, on the lowest setting. That way they're not actually on the heating pad. When I had Morty on it, he was in a snuggle sack, on the heating pad, but he was also in his last hours. His body was very cold to the touch, so when he snuggled down on the warm surface, I covered him, and let him enjoy it.
I used to put the freshly washed piggies in a basket on the heating pad, cover the basket with a towel, and they would snuggle into the bedding and go to sleep.
I love black animals, period. I think there is a shine to their coats that either isn't in other colors, or just can't be seen as well in other colors. He does look black, though I knew he was dark brown. Such a rich color!
Jo, I have quite a few heating pads, and they aren't that big, but they are a lot better than nothing. I had one that went over my shoulders, it was made for that, but it croaked. I really need to get another one, as that's one of my major places needed warming.
I didn't even make my 1.25 miles of walking, yesterday, and couldn't get the pain to let up enough to get much sleep last night, either. I've been better today, with all the rain, than I was in the two days leading up to the rain?
