Thanks everyone - I like the idea of Cadders the chocolate mini-bear!
Had our first floor-time mishap yesterday! The kids and I were in the living room so the cage was open and the pigs were popping in and out merrily. Fella came back and we went through to have tea forgetting to shut them back in as we usually do. All the electric wires etc were covered, but unfortunately my son had left a pack of playing cards laid out carefully on the floor and the boys had a good time biting the corners off all the cards - oops! I said it was my fault for leaving the cage open, my son says it's his for leaving the cards on the floor, but he doesn't mind anyway as you can still see what all the cards are! I'll probably stumble across something else they got up to later!

What a pack of piggies you have. Your son sounds kind Bean normally parents get the blame ! X

That was nice of your son to take the blame, or at least to admit to his part of the blame. Yes, loose piggies will eat everything and anything. I don't know if you remember, but when I had them all free ranging in the piggy room, I had loops of carpet protector wrapped around the legs to everything. They would gnaw everything. I learned the wires thing the hard way at the last house, so no problem with that, just wood chewing.

I bet they loved that game, a nice lay out of cards to chew. They were really marking them so that they could memorise the marks to the cards and know what each other are holding when they play - little ginuea piggy cheats. Seriously though, glad your sons were fine with it. Reminds me of when my youngest was a tot just learning to crawl. We made his way over to where my other son had his favourite jigsaw laid out and gummed a few peices to death! I too had a wire incident when we had a hamster. She escaped her floor time play pen, even though we were supervising her, and before we could catch her she bit a chunk out of the lap top cable, but luckily not far enough in to electrocute herself. We were extra careful after that.

My kids sometimes blame me for all sorts of random stuff that's clearly not my fault, so it makes a nice change that he wanted to take the responsibility!
Oh your poor son with a soggy, gummed up up favourite jigsaw, critter! I can remember a trying phase of time when my son was 2 and really in to creating buildings with blocks etc, and my (younger) daughter had just learned to crawl and found it hilarious to trundle over to him and swipe it all over! We had to get him to build up on a table so he had a chance. If only there were such a simple solution for when they annoy each other now!

I think it's a change in perspective, as they get older. The younger they are, the more they rely on us to tell them what to do. If we don't, it's our fault they didn't get it right, at least to them. Once they get into the "I can do it myself" phase, they start trying out their own powers and abilities. We usually have to protect them from themselves for a while, but once they level out, their perspective is very different. I'm seeing it in granddaughter. She will be 4 in 4 months, and she's totally taking control of her life, right or wrong

Those are a really cute couple of piggies. I love seeing all the different kinds of guinea pigs - different breeds, colours, markings etc. It's cool :-)

One of my piggies escaped out of their cage once in our old flat. She managed go chew mostly through my other halls sub woofer cable and Hoover cable. All I can say was thank god they were not plugged in at had time and on!!

I had those shrink wrap cable repair things to cover the chew marks on so many things, it was ridiculous! I finally started using electrical tape and just taping all the bitten places!

I am so incredibly glad that my piggy boys have seemingly no interest in trying to escape their cage.
I've thought about setting my room up for free range, it wouldnt be that difficult really I dont have much in there, its a little spartan lol, but boyfriend doesnt want the piggies to be able to mess all over the place (he is a party pooper, I keep telling him its laminate flooring, so its SUPER easy to clean up after them lol). I keep trying though, and one day I will win, I just know it lol.

Why don't you send Alfonz over here then? I'll send you a picture of them together! Now the boys are going outside again, we've managed to get a few more pictures of them (ones where their eyes aren't glowing red, indicating an alien invasion). I must get cracking designing the new run for them! They are having another hormone peak at the moment, after a fairly calm spell. Lots of wiggly bottoms and chasing going on! Still getting on well though, and we're giving them lots of opportunity to exercise to use up that energy, and things to keep them busy too. Cadders has turned into a real lap pig now, whereas Josh is being a bit of a fidget bum and although he's really sociable, he doesn't like to be still for long at the moment. It's fun watching their personalities develop!

Wonderful pictures! I do love looking at everyone's piggies. Josh reminds me of Zippy. He was the one who always had to be doing something, and having my attention for whatever he was doing. Most of the others were like Cadders, willing to sit for a while and visit

Tahnks both, and aww that's sweet that Josh reminds you of Zippy, 3piggles. I love thinking of my old pigs. My kids (who are 7 and 8) were keen to make a website for the guinea pigs after hearing about my old website (Treen's Pigs - it lapsed when I had the kids!) and have been working hard to put together some information and games. They have plans for more stuff to add to it too. Anyway here is their creation Go-go guinea pigs! I'm sure even the most experienced owners will learn something from their cautionary stories about what not to do with your guinea pigs haha! They've used some of the old animations and graphics from my website - I had fun looking through all them all. They were mainly created by Alix and Merry, two very talented young ladies!
