Oh no, what awful news - I'm so sorry to read this, Faafaa. Hope Henry is getting on okay and not looking too lost. It's always tough anyway but with young pigs you're just not ready for it at all. Sad, sad news xx

I feel better knowing that Henry knows. Charlie did die in the shared cage. Which was one of my reasons for cleaning it last night. I just need Henry to be ok.
We leave for CA in 6 weeks. We don't have a local rescue here, so I would have to buy another pet store piggy. Which isn't always a bad thing, but knowing I will be able to resuce one soon makes me want to wait. I am just hoping that, until then, lots of human company will do the trick.
I will let everyone know how the vet goes. This will be our first vet trip with Henry. I hope he isn't too terrified.

I've had pigs lose friends and just get on with it, others have immediately started acting a bit depressed. You never know how they will react, you just hope they will cope okay as it's awful seeing them miserable.
With all the changes you have coming up, it definitely seems like a good idea to wait until you're settled until you look in to finding Henry a new friend so you can monitor everything properly. I hope the vet check goes well and Henry is given a clean bill of health - waiting a while also helps reassure you on that front too.
Sorry you are in this position but I hope Henry carries on doing as well.

I guess time will tell how Henry deals with all of this. He is zoomin around his cage as I type this. I bet that's his victory lap from surviving the dreaded vet and his first dose of baytril. Henry has a uri. This morning he was sneezing, by the time I came home he had boogers. Poor little boy. Charlie and Henry have always been spoiled piggys that get tons of attention. Now Henry will just get it all. I will keep everyone posted! Thanks for all of the help.

Sorry to hear Henry has a URI too, but hope with the ABs doing their thing, he will be fighting it off as we speak. Fingers are crossed for him here. xx

Thanks Bean! I am hoping that since we caught his quick that he will have a speedy recovery! Why on earth the vet gave me a pill instead of a liquid is beyond me though! Crushing, disolving, syringe feeding meds to a piggy...all a little stressful for me. Going to try some orange juice to hide it in tonight.

Aww he's adorable!
What a pain getting tablets rather than liquid - must add a lot of faff to the whole process. Was there a reason why - or was it just what was available?

I have no idea why they gave me tablets. Maybe cost? I had to buy 4 pills. Henry get 1/4 pill twice a day. He puts up with it pretty well. My concern is not getting it all in. After crushing and disolving it there is still some powder left behind. As long as Henry is OK that's all that matters. I can go back in 2 weeks for a free recheck though so that's nice.

Rubbish news I've only lost older pigs so far who have had significant issues and that's bad enough - must be so upsetting to lose a young one with no apparent problems. You and Henry will know when the time is right for a new friend for him.

Glad thecvet caught the URI. The pills are probably because Baytril is horrible tasting stuff pigs fight having to take. No fun pushing a pill down his throat, but better than him spitting it out so you don't know how much he really swallowed. If the vet didn't say to, make an appointment for a follow up after the meds are gone. The first pig I lost had a URI. The vet gave me the Baytril and never said anything about getting him rechecked. He developed pneumonia Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk

Henry seems very blah today. He never finished his veggies and he has spent the entire morning in his house. Is this because he's sick and on meds or is he getting sad? His symptoms seem to be getting better, but I just don't know. I even gave him a new soda pop box to play with but he's just not interrested. Help!

It's hard to say, but you know your little guy best, so if you do feel at all worried then trust your instincts and give the vet a call or take Henry in to get checked over - it's better to be overcautious. Hope he's perked up today and that his symptoms are still on the mend. xx
