I just joined the forum and FB group (this is a re-post for those who saw my intro there) since I just adopted these three gals, Fancy, Luna, and Buttercup, and added them to my menagerie! Hubby and I haven't had piggies in about a decade and we had been wanting some again so we were so glad to give them a good home. This is the first time that I can remember that I have adopted an animal that was in good shape already! The daughter of the previous pet-parent (who had rescued these babies) had an asthma condition that was exacerbated by the hay, but the pig-gals had been handled daily and were well-fed and housed. They've been given a third chance at a forever home. They won't need another GP welcome collage by EnchantedDaisy, on Flickr

Hello again and what gorgeous girls you have - welcome to the forum and welcome back to the world of pigs too! We've had a couple of breaks from having pigs over the years - when I have them I can never figure out why I let it happen!

Thanks very much for the welcome I had gp's for so long and I do love them dearly but when their time here has expired it is just so hard to commit to having your heartbroken again. I do take comfort in knowing that I give every pet a happy and healthy home (and it's usually a rescue situation so I know they are much better off with us) but when they've finally reached their end I sometimes feel like I never want to love another pet again, knowing that I will likely outlive them. So it's been a while since we've gotten a "new" pet. Our last pet we got was a 3 year old bunny who we rescued about 7 years ago. She passed a week after I had contacted the gp's family about adopting them. I guess I knew her time was coming soon It was so super tough to take in new babies when my lovey-bun, Duchess, had just passed, but in a way, it's been a blessing to have these snuggle-bugs to remind me of the joys and to take my mind off the sadness. Our other pets love having them around, too. I think they all remember when we used to have gp's.

It is agony we all face sweetheart and it doesn't get any easier. I am better if I have another pet when I loose one because all that love has to go somewhere. I am not saying you stop loving the ones you have lost, none of us could ever do that but you need someone to cuddle and talk to and I always find that it helps.

I think when we can see our pets getting old and slowing down, we know what's coming and can prepare ourselves. Pigs and buns hide illness, so we're often caught off guard when we lose them. Every time I lose a pig, I wonder about getting another. Then I think of all the pigs in rescues, deserving a great home, and I go back to the rescue.
