Are used to clean it out once a week. But I found a huge cockroach the other day and I know cockroaches are attracted to feces so I'm not going to do that anymore but I was wondering about how often do you guys clean cages??
Heres another picture of Crowley!

Adorable If you are using fleece, a daily sweep up of the poos and hay should work. I change the bedding weekly. We don't have cockroaches here, though. I thought they were attracted to everything, as they live in totally clean places. If you are using loose bedding, tou may need to change it much more often. Sorry I can't say exactly, as it depends on so many factors. Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk

Awesome!! I'll do a daily sweep up! Cockroaches are super disgusting either way, so hopefully this will help!

Where I live, there are cockroaches. So far I haven't seen any near my piggies Praise the Lord! I think my heart might stop if I did.
I pick up the poop every day and do a thorough cleaning of the cage once a week at a minimum. Sometimes the piggies make it smell faster than other times, so I adjust accordingly.
Cute picture of Crowley.

I change mine every 2-3 days (I use a recycled paper bedding). They're in the living room so don't want any minor pongs developing!

Hey guys so Crowley has developed this pattern of not eating his pellets for two or three days and I'm not sure what to do- I think it may be because he likes his treats better? I'm not sure!

Hay is 90% of the diet. Pellets 10%. Fresh stuff should be treats only. Cut back on the fresh stuff. He needs the vitamins and minerals in the pellets. He only needs vitamin C from the treats, and not much of that.

Hi! Just dropping in to say Crowley is just so darn cute! Everyone pretty much covered your questions so I won't add to that. I do have to say that, to me, it's crazy to think of one of my piggys refusing their pellets! What kind of pellets are you feeding? Did you just recently switch brands?

I am feeding him the Timothy Natural pellets! Last night I saw him eating them and I made a gasping sound and then he saw me looking at him and ran into his house! Hahaha! But this morning I woke up and they were gone! Yay!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Random question! Anyone know if you can potty train Guineas? It's just Crowley poops and then lays on said poop so he smells! And then I give him a bath and he goes back and overnight does it again!

I would create an area more conducive to lounging than where he tends to poop the most, but that's pretty much how pigs act. You can spot clean regularly, instead of a major clean once a day. I ckean any major poo piles when I see them. Some food make them poo more. You could avoid those, but pooing healthy poos is goid fir them. They like being brushed, so you could do that I likecto let my pigs be themselves, and just spot clean when needed. Kitter training is frustrating for the person, and the pigs pick up on that. They aren't the type of animal that feels strongly about only going to the bathroom in one place, but they do tend to have favorite places. Putting a corner bix with some litter in those places might help.

Some say yes and some say no. If you can potty train them at all it will be their pee and not their poop. As to the pee, I find that my boys more trained me then I them. I saw where they like to mostly pee, and then that is where I put the most absorbant materials. Even then, they will still pee other places...many times it is in their hidies.
As to bathing him...are you using soap? If yes, what soap? How often are you bathing him? We have to be careful regarding bathing our piggiies. The oil in their skin can't handle soap baths often. I've heard various sources say no more than 1x a month others say no more than every 3 months and even others who say don't do it at all. A warm washcloth without soap is good for spot cleaning. Baths without soap is next best and then soap baths are last. Then we have to be careful about what soap to use. I've read many conflicting reports on this. After reading a man who has piggies for over 40 years and who has well cared for them, I decided to use what he uses. Baby shampoo. I've only bathed them once so far, when I was introducing Weasley to Harry. I plan on following the 3 month rule as well.
How often are you picking up the poop out of his cage?

Oh okay! That's fine, I was washing him way more than that, like once every 2 weeks cause he was smelling so bad!
And now I'm picking it up every time I pick him up to play with him (2-3 times)
But thank you very much! This helps A LOT

I side with silamb. I do have 2 litter pans in my cage and my boys do use them. BUT it is because I mostly just watched them to see where they went. I fill my pans with hay, so they spend a good bit of time in there. I also put things in the other corners that they don't want to pee on or near, like pellet dishes. They still poo all over the place, but tend to pee only in the little boxes. I clean poo at least 2 times everyday. I clean the litter pans everyday. As far as bathing, this is what I use. www.amazon.com/Organix-South-TheraNeem-Shampoo-Sentivive/dp/B0014CCC5E/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1405690724&sr=8-2&keywords=neem+shampoo+for+petsI only use shampoo every 3 months or so. I do give them a little soak though every time I clip nails. Just some shallow lukewarm water in the sink. I let them sit in it a few minutes to soften the nails. This way they are easier to cut, but it also gives the stinky bits a little rinse and cleans their little feet. After I trim the nails I put a little coconut oil on their feet to help keep them soft and healthy.
