I have a hard time getting George to take the Oxbow Vitamin C. I decided to buy the Child Life Liquid Vitamin C. Problem is I have no clue how much to give the boys. Can anyone help?

Pigs should have about 35mg of C per day. I give mine a 1cc syringe full of orange juice each, every morning, then give them small veggie treats with C throughout the day. There is also C in the pellets, so they get more than enough. Did you get syringes, or does it come with a way to feed it to them?

I have a ton of syringes from when we were dealing with Henrys allergies.
The liquid is 250mg of C in 5ml. I'm terrible at math. I have been giving the boys .5ml the last few days. I have no idea if this is right!

Sounds like an awful lot. One ml would be 50 mg, which is still more than the 35mg they need. They won't overdose, but giving them 250 mg to satisfy a 35mg need as way too much. If you have the typical 1ml syringes, I would give each pig most of one syringe full per day, but not quite a full syringe. That should be more than adequate.

Oh 3piggles, I meant .5 ml not 5 ml! Is that better? Woops.... I give them .5 ml once a day.

I totally read that wrong! If my math is correct, that's 25mg per pig, which should be fine

faafaa, I couldn't get Weasley to take his Oxbow Vit C, but I daily tried. Just this week he started surprising me that he started taking it. If that is your preferred method of delivery, I wouldn't giving up trying to get him to eat it. George may surprise you.

I started giving the pigs syringes of drinks they like, so they got used to the syringe. Now they try to run off with the syringe. So maybe mixing the C with a liquid they like would make it easier to get them to drink it.

Piggles, what drinks do you feed your piggies? How often?

A syringe of orange juice every morning for C, and barley water if their urine gets a bit sludgy or the piles of calcium crystals gets a bit too big for comfort. I used to feed syringes of cranberry juice and barley water when the last herd had a lengthy round of UTIs. So it depends on the situation if they get anything other than orange juice. You can buy 1ml syringes by the bag from Drs. Foster and Smith. Don't know about the local stores. They do chew the syringes, so a syringe only lasts a month or two.

I tend to give them an orange portion, I hope this is OK.
Hugs JO xx

Thanks Piggles. You don't find that they sugar content in orange juice/oranges on a daily basis a problem? I have read conflicting data and just don't know what to believe anymore. What has your experience taught you?

The liquid Vitamin C is a big success at my house. It's a game of tug 'o war everyday to get the empty syringe back!

Love the tug of war game, Faafaa. Morty has run off with the syringe before Silamb, I use a natural orange juice, and one ml per day doesn't have enough sugar to matter. It's basically squeezed oranges. Jo, an orange portion is fine. I started doing the syringe after all the meds I had to syringe feed Dallas , and the fights he put up not to take the syringe. They needed C anyway, and I figured that accomplished two things with one action.

I am actually using a Children's product. It's made by ChildLife. They get .5 mls daily. You can buy it online at Amazon, but I got mine at Sprouts. Sent from my SCH-I435 using proboards

Good to know, Faafaa. Definitely skip anything that's added to the water.
