I cannot believe its August already! It will be great to have to kids back in school soon though. Last weekend we bought a chainsaw. Hopefully this weekend we will have the time to get it out and clean up the yard a bit. We have these 3 ugly palm trees and babies sprout up from the base of them. We have to clear out all the babies. Should be fun!

Bean, August? What!?! What happened to June...er July? This summer is flying by!
3piggles, happy belated birthday to your hubby. I'm glad to hear that it was a lovely day day.
Faafaa, Yard work has to rank up to one of my least favorite activities. I hope you had a successful weekend attacking your palm tree(s).
Jo, you're funny. I don't think I have ever thought of the last four months as the "bers" before. Cute. Speaking of what that leads up to...
So as to a project that I'm working on. I can't remember if I've said that I'm learning how to sew or not...so please forgive me if I'm being repititious. I'm finishing up my first ever project as a wedding gift which is on 8/30. I'm making two Christmas placemats and one Christmas table runner. Turning out well. I showed them to the bride yesterday at her bridal shower. She really liked it. So that helps me keep soldiering on with it. Sewing, in general, takes a long time but adding the fact that I'm a newbie makes it ridiculously long. After the bridal shower, I went to Joann's Fabric to pick up some fabric to start making Christmas gifts for my family. I haven't completely settled on what I'm going to do for everyone, but since I'm a newbie, I think I might stick with the placemats and table runner idea. Next year, after I get more sewing experience, I can get more adventurous.

Are you using any special techniques such as embroidery or quilting, Silamb? I've know people who did those techniques for holiday items. I have a sewing machine that will do small embroidery patches, but I've never tried it. Hubby had a great birthday, and a great weekend. He got into cleaning mode, and purged a lot of stuff he's been accruing. Definitely kept us busy this weekend

Please let us know how you get on love. I love Christmas napkins and table runners and wish I had the skill to make my own.

Oooh I'd love a chainsaw, Faafaa! Don't think I should be trusted with one though...
SiLamb, your project sounds great - I'd love to see a picture or two of something you've made.
I wish I were crafty too Jo - I'll have to show you a picture of the vase I made at the pottery class I did with the kids, should give you a laugh!

Pottery is hard! It takes a certain touch I don't have.

I know Bean love, it just isn't in me I'm afraid. I do however love to see things which friends have made, photos of their creations.
Thank you Silamb love, the "bers" only occurred to me a few years ago, but I thnk it sums them up nicel, especially if you love Christmas as I do. (am I allowed to say that word yet LOL?)
Hugs JO xx.

Aww come on Bean! We were just outside planning our Christmas lights! Christmas is my very favorite time of the year! (Fall is my second favorite, which is quickly approaching!) I love the lights and decorations, the music, the spirit of giving that all comes with the Christmas season. The church is always so pretty at Christmas too with all the poinsettia flowers. I love baking cookies too during the Christmas season. :-) Now, I'm excited!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

I'm with you, faafaa. I love the lights and decorations, though I am glad the condo association has rules prohibiting huge and loud displays. I love the baking and gift giving, though we're pretty much down to just granddaughter. I'm also a cold lover, so I'm totally into the pot of soup simmering on the stove, and the homemade bread scents throughout the house. Love Fall. Do wish we had slightly longer daylight hours, but I'll trade it for cold

Oh gosh, I can see I'm going to have to abuse my powers again this year and ban certain words!
For the record, I love Christmas too, but if I've listened to people bleating on about it from summer I'm over it by the time it's here - at least wait until we've got into winter?!
Baaaaa!

I have a sewing machine that will do small embroidery patches, but I've never tried it. I'm mostly learning how to quilt. The table runner and placemats that I'm making as a wedding gift right now are quilted. I'll share pictures once I'm finished with each project. I'm also going to be learning how to make clothes and various other things. I have to learn how to read a pattern first. I was supposed to learn last week, but with Weasley getting really sick and then my getting a sore throat I had to cancel on my friend who was going to come over and teach me. I have an old hand me down machine...probably from the 60s or 70s. One day I would like to get a machine that can do embroidery. That's cool.
