Hi all! I just thought I'd take a minute and introduce myself and my family. My name is Michele and I am a stay at home mom to a very handsome 5 year old son, Cole. Our first piggie came to us in a very unprepared way, I'll admit, but she was the start of something wonderful. I took my son to the pet store to let him get a fish, but a certain little fur ball stole his heart as soon as he laid eyes on her. Selfishly, I bought her, a very expensive cage (that now sits on my back deck as a trash bag holder), food and all of the necessities, and set off to learn all I could about guinea pigs. This love was called Frankie (for now). We instantly fell in love with her, and through our research we learned they need a playmate, so enter piggy number two. We built a big 2x5 C&C cage, went to the pet store (not realizing there are rescues!) and had our heart stolen by another furry little girl. They hit it off right away and we were very happy with our little piggies! My son being 4 years old at the time, kept getting their names mixed up so Frankie became known as Biggum (because she was the bigger of the two) and our second became Small Small, for obvious reasons in the eyes of a child
Anyway, fast forward a few months. I went to a local pet shop to pick up bedding for their kitchen area, with no intention of bringing home another guinea pig, and had my heart stolen once again! I saw this little piggie, in a tiny glass aquarium, hardly any bedding, no hidey house or anything, shut up in a room with a TON of birds. And I mean a ton of loud squaking birds, with no way to escape the madness! I felt so sorry for him, I couldn't leave him there, so I bought him. He was just the sweetest thing, so mellow and friendly, he fit right in with my girls. Again, named by my son, he became known as Boy Pig.
So, knowing I didn't want baby pigs, I fashioned him a cage next to my girls but let them all have floor time and play time together every day, very closely monitored of course. Well, there were a couple of times where they were unsupervised for a few minutes (in a safe pig friendly "corral") and Boy Pig had his way with Small Small, and I am afraid he might have gotten Biggum too. I am in no way a breeder, I did not intentionally allow this to happen, nor do I encourage anyone else to do so. We were planning on having Boy Pig altered, but are having a hard time finding a reputable vet in our area. This is on our to-do list in the very new future, even if I have to travel to the moon and back to do it! Even though this pregnancy was unplanned, we love the babies and will provide them a loving family, the more the merrier! <3
