My phone camera doesn't do a great job with the guinea pigs, but I managed to take these two decent-ish pictures today. First is Tessa, the current eldest pig, at roughly five-ish years...I think. I put a curtain/tent thing across a corner of their cage, and Tessa and Bonnie have staked claim to it. It was a cute shot of their little noses poking out, but unfortunately, Jilly decided to attempt an entry, and Tessa moved in order to nip her away *sigh* If people would like, I can try to take photos of them all later. Here's the best I got of Jilly, when they were on the sofa during cleaning time.

Aww nice to see your pigs - love the nose peeking out from under the blanket! I do love white stripes on pigs' noses. And yes please to more pics of course!

Excellent, we shall try our best! My eldest brother has a part-time photography business, and he has promised my mother he'll sort out a time to come and take some really decent portraits of each one for her, and get them printed onto canvases. He's a pretty busy bloke, so I personally am not holding my breath...
Jilly decided yesterday was a day to assert her authority, and rumbleshuffled around all the girls, and mounted them, and generally made a nuisance of herself. I suspect with Annie having recently passed, and Tessa entering her twilight years, the pecking order is due for a shake-up.
Poor Harley, the neutered boar, wasn't sure what do to; he was ignored haha. He just rumbleshuffled around, and tried to make the girls pay attention to him...Jilly didn't bother with him at all, which makes us wonder if the residential boar doesn't have a place among female's hierarchies? Maybe they consider he's just there to look pretty haha.

It is so cute to watch their little ways and knowing what each piggy is trying to achieve. I watch ours for ages.

Zippy used to move out of the cage when the ladies were in heat. I had a full feeding station under the bureau, so he'd move in there. He'd come by periodically to pull on my pant leg and get picked up, hsve s long complaint and snuggle, then go on about his business Once the hierarchy is shuffled, he'll get attention again

Oh, yes. They communicate a lot. Zippy was a real talker, but he was also very demonstrative with his body language. I haven't had a pig that communicative, since!

When I've had groups of one snipped boar with several ladies, the boy has never got involved in power struggles - they just sit back and let the ladies get all strumpy with each other and work things out. And the girls never saw the boys as threats to dominance either - they just got ignored in the hullabaloo of establishing a pecking order. Funny how it all works differently with different pairings/ groups.
Hope your brother gets a few free hours soon!

You're right, Bean. My two neutered boars were on the side lines, while one of the sows ran the herd. I did notice that with each, there was one sow who was closer to him than the other. LG loved Zippy so much, she looked for him for a good year after he died, and when I added the loft that put her up by his picture on the wall, she recognized him immediately. She would lie near his picture, and purr at him.
Morty took over leading Molly, when her eyesight failed. He was her constant companion, made sure she got where she needed to go, and that not one ran over her. He only went off, when she was with me. Morty is now Mia's husboar, and she is definitely in charge.

Aww, Zippy! haha silly pigs. Harley hasn't had to move out *yet*. He does enjoy his time out alone with his mummy (my mother) though! He won't share her arms with any of them, and he can get quite authoritative about it...
We went to see my sister's new home yesterday, since it was a public holiday. The previous owner wasn't able to keep up with the gardens recently, so we came back with lots of clover, grass, and dandelions for the piggies haha. She actually suggested we bring one, but mum couldn't choose just one.

haha well everything is back to normal in piggy paradise now. Mollie got rattly breathing on Monday, so we took her in to the vet Tuesday, and she got put on Baytril, which she absolutely loves. Not. She seems back to normal now, although it was hard to tell whether she was feeling sick, or it was the extreme heat we suffered during the week. It's thankfully a lot cooler, now!
