I sad to have to say that Momo crossed over the bridge this morning. She was still warm, when I got to the family room to do their breakfasts and her meds. It appears she was eating her hay, and her little heart gave out. Last night, hubby got her out of her condo, in her fabric house. He played with her for a while, then I transferred her to a snuggle sack, gave her some loving and her meds. She put up a fuss, but came right back for kisses, after taking her meds. We had a good snuggle session. She liked to play hide and seek, ducking into the snuggle sack, then popping out for kisses and nose bonks. Back in her condo, she chewed on her cardboard house, bounced around her fabric house and generally acted like the old Momo. She lined up to demand her bedtime treat, along with the others, chomping and talking to make sure she wasn't forgotten. She gave it all she had, and so did I. I miss her so much, and can't believe my spunky pig is really gone

Oh Piggles, my heart breaks for you as I'm reading this. How upsetting and shocking, especially seeing as she was recovering so well. You did everything you could to try to make her better, and nurse her back to health with the meds and TLC. I'm glad she seemed to be feeling well and acting playful last night. At least then you know she wasn't in pain or suffering. But I know exactly how you feel right now, and it's horrible and it sucks. My thoughts are with you and I'm sending you a big hug. Momo was a lucky girl to have a great mom like you.

I feel your loss of Momo as if she had been my own piggie. May your grief be replaced by the many happy memories you have of her. She was a very loved girl, and loved you much in return. You did all you could for her.

Oh Piggles darling, I cannot say how sorry I am. Your loss is felt by us all and we wish there was something we could do. She was doing so well but I guess it is just her time hun. I agree with our friends above, you did all you could for her and she was so lucky to have you as a mum. Lots of loves and hugs are on their way.

I cleaned both condos, and moved the cardboard box house to Morty and Mia's condo. Momo loved that house, and it was the first thing she sought out when she got home from the vet. It's great to see the others enjoying it, but her condo is so empty. Pigloo City is only half full. Hubby and I have discussed possibly connecting the two condos with a ramp, but neither Morty nor Mia seem inclined to use ramps. They also aren't as young as they used to be. I'm not going to do anything right away. I think it just bothers me to see the top condo empty. Thank you all for your kind comments

Oh no, I'm so sorry. What a shock when she'd been recovering so well, this is very sad news indeed.
With the operation finding what it did, at least you know there was no other option for her other than proceeding with the spay, and I'm glad she was well enough to enjoy her last day or so with you, giving you even more special time with her and happy memories. I'm sure she knew how loved she was, especially getting all those extra treats and attention in her last week or so. Just so sorry it didn't all have a happier ending.
Sleep tight Momo xxx

Thank you all for the kind responses. It was an incredible shock. Even hubby came home from work early. She was playing with him the night before. All was well with her, and she was doing better by the minute. I don't regret getting her spayed, and I don't think the operation contributed to her death. I think it was just her time. There were no signs of anything but a very peaceful passing. It's just hard to see an empty condo, where there used to be such a strong personality. I don't plan to get another pig, at least not right away. Morty and Mia have shared their condo for several years, and are very set in their ways. I think I'll wait until one of them passes.

An empty cage is always a sad sight. I can imagine Momo's personality leaves a big hole in the room. It does seem that Morty and Mia are well settled as a couple together, and also if they're older, that their days of racing up and down ramps may have passed. So there's no urgent need to change anything at all. Maybe you could just put up some nice photos of Momo and your other beloved past pigs in the cage for now, a tribute to all the happy times you've shared with your furry friends over the years.

Bean's suggestion of putting up some nice photos in the empty condo made me smile a little (been a while since I smiled). I think it's a really nice idea, and since Momo's condo was above the other condo...it would be like her and your other past piggies are above watching over Morty and Mia

I just miss her so much. I know it gets better, and I've been giving Morty and Mia a lot of extra attention, which they claim to not like, lol We are going to make a bit of a structural change to their cage, probably tomorrow, so there is better access to the kitchen area. One of them always falls asleep so they block the entry/exit, and that seems to be the main pee place. I'm hoping to put in posts, and leave most of the center open to go between the cage sections. It helps me to make changes, when I lose a lovey.
