Another Deo pic from this past summer: Theodore has been most uncooperative with picture taking, but I got one of him and Oscar being neighborly:

I love how the guy on the right is saying "I'm not looking. I can't see you" Are they apart because the new pig is still in quarantine? Or you haven't had time to bond yet? Have you thought about pushing the cages together so they can bump noses if they feel like it?

Have you thought about pushing the cages together so they can bump noses if they feel like it? The quarantine is over, but I simply don't have the space for a larger cage to accommodate the two of them together, so they are in separate cages- it takes up less room, as I can line them up against one wall and they can see each other. Normally the cages are slightly closer; I have seen the two of them stretching up and sniffing each other as best they can. When the warm weather comes back and grazing season starts, I'll set them loose and see if they get along.

Obviously, it's best if they can share a cage, do piggy trains, and all the other piggy things, but being able to communicate with each other, see and smell each other is far better than being alone. Measure the space you have, and maybe we can come up with some good, inexpensive solutions, says the woman who can never leave her cage alone for very long at a time

Measure the space you have, and maybe we can come up with some good, inexpensive solutions, says the woman who can never leave her cage alone for very long at a time I noticed PetSmart was selling a larger cage that could possibly accommodate two guinea pigs, but there would be no room for their pigloos (a hideaway is built-in) and again, the space issue comes into play. I think if we were to seriously consider it, we'd have to rearrange my daughter's room somehow... and we're not ready yet. That doesn't mean we're not open to suggestions for down the road, of course!

For the money, you're better off building a C&C cage. For the cost of a 2'x4' cage ($89-100), you can buy a sheet of coroplast for about $12, and a box of grids for cube storage for about $20, and have a much bigger cage. Even if you only built a 2x4 C&C cage, it would cost you a fraction of what a store cage will cost. Of all the store cages, this is the one I recommend the most: www.amazon.com/MidWest-Homes-for-Pets-171GH/dp/B001NJ0DPY It is expandable, so if you got more space, you could add another cage with a connecting ramp. They don't have to have pigloos, as long as they have a place to hide out and relax. I don't know if you're handy, but you can add a loft about 4 inches off the bottom of the cage. The pigs can sleep under it, and jump up on it. I had that set up for a while, and had the water and pellets on the loft. It was a cage built to do that, and pricey, but a good way to maximize space. Even a low cardboard box they can jump up on will give them the added space.

I have a foot wide strip of fleece pegged 6" high across one end of the cage - they hide under it, use it as a hammock, and best of all it doesn't use up floor space - they can still do cage laps unhindered. I still put extra stuff in for them to play with (my lot love chewing) but I don't have to make sure I'm including a hidey as that's built in. The only problem with it is that they hang out for ages on the top and leave piles of poops on top of the fleece - not a problem until the next one springs up and sends them all flying (as they don't all stay in the cage)!
Looking at those cages, if you're happy to adapt the wire tops, they could probably be fitted together quite easily, but two boys would probably need more space than that anyway. I'll be interested to see how they get along together, but it sounds like that going well will be a happy surprise rather than an expectation, which is good as it means you're happy to continue housing them separately if needed.
My cages are high rise - I have one on top of the other as I don't have the floor space for both. It's a bit different as I have two separate pairs and I don't really want them to see each other as although the girls get along well, if the boys see each other through the bars, Josh goes nutty exhibiting his all-manly manliness and Cadders gets a bit stressed by it and then they subsequently both annoy their wives!

Since it's possible to buy hammocks for the cages, I wonder of those also send the poos flying everywhere. Design flaw, lol

I think the hammocks tend to dip a bit more in the middle so probably hold deposits a bit better! I've got my fleece pulled quite tight across the cage so it stays off the ground, but they seem to like the firmness - they like trampolining on it and can often be found doing laps and jumping on and off it!

I'd love to see that, Bean I've heard the hammocks tend to not be a good place to be under, if the top pig has to pee

Another set to share! Deo grazing (I STILL miss him!) Oscar just being impatient for snacks! Theodore being curious: On a side note, Theodore needs to relax a little more. Deo was very easygoing, and even Oscar has his laid-back moments. Theodore is still skittish about being touched; I can't wait for grazing season, maybe he'll open up by then.
