Totally. I don't know if it's changed, but bonding used to be done in a cleaned, neutral area with nothing but a pile of hay. Again, food They way to an animals heart

Brought the guys out for an entire hour of grazing, although I think they both had had enough after 45 minutes. Still, once I brought them in they started wondering where their snacks were! I'll try to post some pics later.

Had a brief episode of worry when I went to clean Stilgar's cage today- as I approached his cage, I saw him on his back looking like he was convulsing. This went on for a few seconds and then I blurted out, "Stilgar, are you okay?" Apparently my close proximity to him shocked him back to reality! He immediately flipped over and scurried into his pigloo.
He's been acting normal ever since, but I'll be keeping an eye on him. He may have been trying to scratch his back on the hay.

That sounds strange, but it's good he was easily rousable from it. It sounds kind of like he was having a dream about gambolling around a field!

I don't think I've ever seen that. He could be scratching his back. I've never seen them do that, either, so wouldn't know what it looked like.

He didn't look like he was in any discomfort, just a slow wriggling motion. I haven't seen him do anything similar since, so I guess he's okay.

If he's been acting okay since then, I think he's probably okay. It must have been something he chose to do.

Stilgar had his vet appointment and everything is about as okay as it can get, but he'd had one eye a bit crusty a week ago so the vet gave me some drops to put in. I've been trying, and although he sits quite still every time the drop manages to hit his eye and then roll right off. This is proving to be more difficult than I'd anticipated.

I know the feeling - I'm having to use eyedrops for hay fever at the moment and even though I pull my bottom eyelid out a little to get them in (which also works with pigs - if they allow it of course!), they still sometimes bounce out! Glad Stilgar is generally doing okay.

Not at all sure what you can do about the eye drops. Perhaps enough stays on the eye to be effective? I'm glad he's doing as well as can be expected, or hoped. If he's a basically happy guy, you're doing all you need to do <3 I use eye drops when my eyes get all goopy from allergies, and I put the drops in my lower eyelid. As soon as I close my eye, it's all over everything. I have to wipe off more than it seems stays on my eye. Probably just an illusion, as the drops seem to help

Stilgar's eye seems to be improving, but I'll keep trying to administer the drops for the prescribed time. Also, I may have mentioned this before, but it's amusing how the guys react to cage cleaning. Zeke remains in the cardboard box the whole time, munching on hay until I put his finished cage next to it... whereupon he scrambles up the little door like a ramp and jumps in. He cannot wait to go home! Stilgar only remains in the box to munch on pellets, then gets impatient for me to finish. He ambles out and starts inspecting what I'm doing. Sometimes he stands up and peers into his almost finished cage, wondering how much longer it will take. Other times he sits by me, so I take a brief break and pet him. Eventually he trundles off to his box and waits for me to bring the cage to its "ready" position.

I get a kick out of Zeke's feeding habit when he gets his pellets- As I'm pouring his portion into his bowl, he'll see something that looks especially delicious and reach out to snag it, like a dried carrot. His greed is amusing to no end.

My neighbours gave me a few leftover grapes for the guinea pigs yesterday, and the word snatch just doesn't do justice to how eagerly they took them from my hand! Definitely a prize that they needed to go off and hide protectively with rather than something they could enjoy out in the open.

Stilgar has developed an infection on one side of his nose- I brought him in for his dental work and it had to be postponed until next week. I have antibiotics for him, and hope it won't get worse. They mentioned hospitalization and I cannot afford that.
Zeke managed to drink almost all his water today, which is unusual. I hope he's okay, I can't afford to have him unwell, either. One guinea pig with constant medical attention is all I can handle right now.

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope Stilgar's infection clears up so he can have his dental work. And hope that Zeke's water bottle emptying was just a fluke and not a sign of anything else going on. Poorly pigs are a big worry.

All digits crossed for Stilgar's infection to clear up quickly <3 It may be related to his teeth, as it's in the same area. If hospitalization isn't an option, and the vet thinks it's a necessity, ask the vet to help you set up what you need at home, as you can give Stilgar much better around the clock the care. Most vets close their offices overnights and on weekends, and if anything happens while the office is closed, they just write it off as too bad. You can be with Stilgar all but during your work day, and will devote your home time to him, not to a whole vet hospital full of patients. If Stilgar needs subQ fluids, or something like that, you can give them as well as they can <3
