Whoa! Talk about a bad rendering of MM. That's like the girl-next-door version of the picture, nice, but totally lacking the sex appeal. It does seems as if artists would want their work preserved, but maybe many tattoo 'artists' are just in it for the money, and not for the fame or longevity. I've heard that some just do a set group of existing pictures, while others use the body as a canvas for their artistic expression. I think she got one of the former, not the latter.
I think that would be one of my main concerns about getting a tat, is the artist going to do a really good job, or am I going to end up with a rotten tat I can't get rid of? When I got my ears pierced, I went to a doctor who did it, not to one of those kiosks in the mall that does ear piercing and sells a lot of earrings to go with it. Not that I had any proof those places were bad, but getting a body part pierced seemed to imply using a doctor, not a technician. The one thing that was different is that he told me to use something called ST37, which is a painless alcohol, to wash the holes at least 3 times a day. Everyone I know who got their ears pierced at the mall was told to clean the holes with alcohol, which stings like crazy. Many of them got infections because they didn't want to go through the sting of using the alcohol. It's still made and used as a topical antiseptic, yet no ear piercing place has ever recommended it.
I do wonder where the whole tat and piercing issue will go. Will another generation decide it's been done to death, so they're going to keep their bodies pristine, to make their generational mark? Will tats become part of using the body as a billboard? "BUY SNUFFY'S PIZZA", "LEGALIZE MARIJUANA" ?

I always think of this lady who wanted a picture of Marilyn Monroe on her arm when someone mentions getting a tattoo. This is opening up another can of worms, but it looks like her lip is pierced! Ouch! On an unrelated note, I think Theodore is slowly improving. His breathing is getting quieter. He's resisting taking his meds, but we're getting the doses into him after minor struggles. Vicki is picking him up and cradling him like a baby, and it's funny to see because he twists his head away from the syringe, yet his paws are extended out towards it, like he's refusing it. Maybe one day we'll try to get a picture of this, because it's definitely a Kodak moment!

I've only gotten my ears pierced, and yes, OUCH is a good description. I can't imagine getting even more private parts pierced, but I'm really not into pain.
Aw, I wish you could get a picture. That sounds so cute. I'm glad Vicki is participating, so she gets a feeling for how the process works. That's great about Theodore getting better. After the meds are gone, get him back to the vet for a follow up. Sometimes the first round of meds only causes a short remission, and a second round is needed.

I had a mental image of that Baz, like we would pull our head away from something whilst pushing our hands towards it. I am so glad he is getting better hun.
No I have no desire to have piercings anywhere else thank you!

I didn't get my ears pierced until I was 12, and then only because clip-on earrings were painful nuisances. They pinched the ear lobe, had to be removed to talk on the phone, so were often left someplace. Not much point in wearing earrings, if I left one where I was talking on the phone, and went out with only one earing. Also, dangly earrings were really coming into style, and in the clip-on, they were really heavy. So I beat my mother down with my whining, and got her to agree to it as long as I had a doctor do it. Two ear lobes were more than enough piercing pain for me, so I never wanted anything else pierced!

I was a little older than you when I had them pierced the first time Piggles love and I honestly cannot remember when I had them done the second and third time. I remember wearing dangly earrings and they were painful. I remember my mother buying me apair to dress up in when I was 8 and they were agony but so pretty. I always wear dangly earrings with the two studs in either ear. I have just bought a pair of guinea pig ones for a friend's birthday and she is thrilled with them I am glad to say. I might treat myself to a pair.

I have a pair of black/white guinea pigs I bought from The Winking Cavy, when it was still in business. I always planned to get more, but never got to it. I'm glad your friend liked the earrings I had some beautiful dangly earrings, but I also had really long hair, and I kept forgetting not to brush my hair back off my face without detangling the earrings, first. Ouch! I still have the same holes I started with, as the doctor used a larger gauge needle for the stud, and it was made of surgical steel. I kept the original studs, and did have to repierce my ears a few times, if I went without earrings for very long. Usually just a flap of skin that formed over the back, but repiercing that was painful enough. I have a pair of diamond studs my mother gave me, and I wear those most of the time. They're small, so unobtrusive, and they keep the holes open.

Thank you Piggles love, they are a really cute pair. The black and white ones sound lovely though. Someone bought me a pair of guinea pig egg cups a while ago and they have the most gorgeous faces, of course I don't use them but they are on show.
Yes, I had long hair then as I do now and a couple of times I forgot I had earrings on and caught them in my hair brush. Ouch was right, it really hurt. I keep studs in the two upper holes I have but generally just wear the drop earrings if I am going out.

I have some really cool earrings. They're not valuable, just cool. We visited a closed coal mine in Pennsylvania, and I about a pair of earrings and a necklace made of polished coal. Being a bit of a nut, I loved when people would ooh and ah over them, and ask if the stones were this or that expensive gem. The look on their faces when I said it was coal was just too great to pass up I have the guinea pig earrings, which I'll photograph and post. People keep asking me what they are, and I get to explain how wonderful guinea pigs are I also have some capybara earrings, and while most people have heard of guinea pigs, few have heard of capybara. I get to tell them about the giant guinea pigs, too I have a necklace that goes with the capy earrings, of a capybara eating a popsicle. That capybara was named Caplin, and belonged to a women in Texas. He loved popsicles. When Caplin died, his owner made the necklaces and earrings in memory of him.

I bet they are lovely Piggles hun and yes, peoples' faces would have been a picture LOL!! Do you still have them, would love to see them? I also adore Capybaras and have had a cuddle with one, I have a photo somewhere. Bertha her name was, she had a hubby called Bert but all he would do if you tried to make friends with him is grunt and run off LOL I would love to see the Capy eating a popsicle.
I don't have any valuable earrings anymore, I used to have some lovely pairs but I had to sell them when we had our private financial crash. I have some really pretty ones though and they are displayed on an earring stand so they look all pretty and sparkly, I am the original Magpie LOL!! I think it is lovely that jewellery was made in Caplin's honour, it must have been heart breaking when she lost him. I am like you hun, I tell people how wonderful guinea pigs are at every opportunity, even before I went under to have my gall bladder removed and the nurse there was a pet lady too, so she was really interested.

Brief update- Theodore's getting better, but I will probably schedule another appointment with the vet for a second look. His eyes are clear with no discharge, he doesn't seem to be sneezing as much anymore, and I can still hear him breathing, although much quieter and less often. Also, much like Deo did, he enjoys watermelon. Concerned about his water intake, I gave him a small sliver of watermelon- he bit into it and immediately recoiled; he'd never had it before, apparently. He took another cautious bite, chewed carefully, took another bite and then snagged it from my hand. I gave the vet a rundown of his diet and he said that he's probably getting enough water from his vegetables, so I won't worry too much about that. Still, the occasional extra watermelon slice won't hurt.

Glad Theo is getting better, but it's a good call to get him checked out again if he's not 100% back to normal after the meds. Has his weight remained stable throughout?
Our lot got to try watermelon for the first time recently (I prefer cantaloupe or honeydew myself so don't buy it often) - definitely a success!

I never ate them until a few years ago. I just didn't like them. Then my taste buds must have changed and I always look forward to eating them in the summer. How do you get them in winter? There are some in the shops here but they're mega-expensive. Strawberries, big strawberries, are also available but I don't know the price.

Excellent news about Theodore! I'm glad you're seeing real signs of improvement. I agree with the follow up vet visit. It's best to keep him on the meds until he's completely well, and it seems totally unnecessary. We get watermelon at great prices in the summer, but now, they're imported and pricey. Many stores have covered bowls of watermelon pieces we can buy, and for guinea pigs that would be more than enough, but I stick to fruits that are in season, or are at least locally grown in green houses. Mine get a lot of different veggies, but few fruits. There's a question/answer section in the latest Guinea Pig Magazine about preferring water bottles or bowls. While most voted for bottles, one said she doesn't give her pigs any water. She gives them lots of fruits and veggies in the morning and at night, and that's enough. I was horrified, as who is she to decide when they feel a need for a drink? I've tried commenting, but my comments don't seem to get through. I really hope someone will address that statement! Shades, I've noticed my tastes changing a lot, over the years. I eat foods I never used to, and no longer like some foods I used to love. Broccoli is still my favorite, though, so I guess that's going to last Jo, my favorite earrings aren't very expensive. I just really like them. I've never been one to put on the Ritz. I just don't care to. I try to look nice, but I'm not going broke to do it

He still looks round and cuddly, much like his counterpart in the next cage over.

Even though it appears Theodore isn't really touching his bottle, I spill out the old water and refill it every morning, and wash the bottles on a regular basis. (I have four bottles between the two piggies, and rotate them every few days for washing.) Oscar's current intake is about a quarter of a bottle a day, occasionally a third. He chews a lot, so I imagine that's thirsty work to destroy all your chew toys. I wouldn't want to take the chance of Theodore getting dehydrated, so I always have a bottle for him ready. It's so little of a demand on my time, and what if he suddenly really DOES get thirsty for some reason?

Our soft fruits are more expensive in winter, but most things are available all year round. The melons are nicer in summer but still okay in winter. But the strawberries are awful - I guess it relates to when they were picked and how far they've travelled, but they're hard and flavourless so it's completely pointless buying them.

My feelings exactly, Bazookagoof. It's up to the pigs to decide when they need a drink, and how much they need. I also have 4 bottles, and swap them for cleaning. I have house plants in the window near the cage, so I don't toss the unused water, I water the plants with it.
I will notify one of the GPM staff, as she's a Facebook friend of mine, and hope someone finds a gentle way to tell that woman that guinea pigs need to make that decision for themselves.
Shades, our imported fruits suffer the same fate in the off season. Strawberries are tart, watermelon is tasteless. As Bean said, I think it has to do with the distance it's traveled once it was picked. Grapes have been on sale lately, and we haven't even bothered to check them. During the summer, we can get sweet, plump grapes for a really decent price. Get toward the end of summer, and the great price continues, but the grapes aren't very sweet or juicy anymore. Tomatoes and carrots start losing their sweetness, too. We still buy tomatoes and carrots, but they're not as good. I always found that to be a great motivation for getting our veggie garden going again, each year. Nothing beats home grown!

That's a splendid idea of yours, I just have to figure out which plants in our house are real (We have a few artificial ones lurking about the home.)

You can keep a jar or watering can near the cage, and just empty the water into that, then take it around and water the plants with it, once you have enough. I hate wasting anything, especially water, so I have a watering can for any excess water, in the main living area, too I used to just dump the bottle contents into the plants, but I almost drowned them a couple of times, so decided to just put it in the watering can
