I am in love with my new little girl! I have named her Luna and she is gorgeous. I thought I would share some pictures with you guys. She is in a "Quarantine cage for a couple of weeks just so I can be sure she wont make the other girls sick. She is so vocal and loving, and already seems to be taken with me as on the way home she nestled in to my chest and licked me. Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

Gorgeous, and glad you are doing quarantine. The usual quarantine period is 21 days, as that's proven to be the time it takes for everything from mites to a URI to manifest and show themselves. Never hurts to make sure they are healthy So glad she's a lovey pig. She'll enjoy all the attention

Luna is much more skittish than Star and Pat ever were, but from what I've gathered she has spent most of her time with children who were allowed to hold her as they pleased so she isn't used to someone being gentle. She is very scared if you try to touch her, but will come right up to talk to you through the bars in the cage and try to climb out the bars to get to you. I'm hoping with a little more time and some treats at night she will get better.

Some come around and others stay nervous all their lives love, our Merley is very nervous and Darcy can be so to but not as bad. Lacy Jane you can stroke at any time.

Try bringing her out of the cage in some sort of conveyance. An overturned pigloo, a basket or cardboard box, with a towel or something she can burrow in to hide, if she gets scared. When being with you, and petted by you, isn't a threat, she will adjust more quickly. Hopefully, she's not too scared to learn to relax. Also, keep the conveyance where she can go back in it when she's with you for lap time. That way she learns that she's not your prisoner, and will come back out on her own.

Luna is getting better. She will now allow me to pet her head as long as I am feeding her. I have also started to bring her out for a separate lap time in a box with a towel. She is really enjoying the veggies every day, and when I give her new hay every day she gets super excited and starts popcorning!

Luna is quickly getting so much better. She will now let me pet her a little bit without me having to be giving her food.

Just gave my boyfriend the money to order everything I need for a c&c cage before I introduce Luna to the other girls. I have decided that I just cant afford the corrugated plastic right now so I am going to use a large shower curtain underneath to keep the floors nice. I am super excited to be able to give the girls way more room to run around. If anyone has any tips on the cheapest ways to do fleece bedding please let me know. I have one set for now, but I'm gonna need some more soon.

Are you going to be using fleece with toweling underneath? You need something to keep delicate guinea pig feet from walking on the dividers in the grids. The point to the corrugated plastic is to provide a solid surface for the guinea pigs' feet. I used a piece of linoleum in my first C&C cage. I had it, and it was thick enough to make a good solid floor. I also had a lot of old towels that I kept around to mop up water spills, so they worked great under the fleece. There are lots of options, just make sure the pigs don't walk on the grids

Yes, I'm going to be using all of my old college towels underneath because they are old and I have no need for them.

It's a great way to give those old towels a new purpose in life Once common question is how many layers of towel to use under the fleece. It really depends on the number of pigs, size of the cage, thickness of the towels and the environment(hot/dry they drink a lot more). Start with whatever number of towels make you feel comfortable. You may add more at times, and use fewer at other times. There's no rule for the number of towels, just for the fleece-one layer is all you need
