Found a lot of blood on the hay and bedding, yesterday, so reapplied the styptic powder. He really doesn't feel it. At least this tells me I have to apply the styptic powder more often. It seems to bleed right around the edges of the tumor, as if he catches the tumor and it tries to pull away. The amount of blood is a flow, not a few drops. So I have the styptic powder and cotton balls, no more Q tips as they don't cover a large enough area quickly enough. He doesn't like being detained, so he's squirmy, and it's hard to get the Q tip onto the right places long enough to get a good amount of styptic powder on it. The cotton balls just plunk a bunch of styptic powder on the whole area, and that seems to work much better. He could use another bath to clean the blood out of his hair, but I don't want to give him another bath so soon after the last one. I'll try to get him out long enough to just clean off that area, and get more styptic powder on it.

I'm sorry it's been bleeding more. I hope the powder stems the flow enough and it's good he doesn't seem to find it being applied uncomfortable, just annoying. How has he been today?

He hasn't bled since the last major application of the styptic powder. Maybe I didn't apply enough, over enough area, the first time. I have noticed his eye site problems, and am glad I always talked to them. Talking to piggies because they could go blind and would need to know the verbal cues really is a great idea. He doesn't always see me coming, but he hears me say his name and greet them, and he's instantly at his place by the front Plexiglass, chomping on it to get his treats

I'm glad the bleeding seems to be under control with more of the powder - definitely worth using it more liberally to eep him comfortable and not have the worry of blood loss.

Will do, Jo More bleeding yesterday, and I caught it at the still dripping phase. Faked out Morty by giving him veggies, they applying the styptic powder while he was eating. I don't know if the tumor is growing and causing new bleeding, if scabs dry and fall off, or what, but it seems as if every few days I need to reapply the styptic powder. I'm just trying to figure out how many days, and possibly reapply before the bleeding resumes. I need to change the bedding again, as this bedding has a really large blood spot on it. He's still happy and moving around, demanding treats and keeping the girls in their places

Oh I am so sorry hunni, I thought the bleeding had slowed right down so I am sorry to hear that it is back up and the little love's bedding has to be changed again. Thank you for giving him a nose rub from his Auntie Jo Jo and tell him she has told that naughty tumour to go away! I hope you manage to work out after how many days the bleeding starts again, at least that way you can be prepared.

If you pair giving veggies with applying the powder, I can see Morty intentionally rubbing his side so he needs it! It's a great idea to keep him distracted while you put it on though - he wriggles less so it's easier for you too. Putting it on routinely rather than waiting for it to be needed sounds like a good plan too - it does seem as if it's something that will keep happening now rather than a one (or two) off thing.
Lovely to hear he's still a happy chappy!

He seems to want treats all the time. He didn't used to be this demanding of treats, but perhaps he's read my mood, which says give him what he needs to be happy. He and the girls also started doing this after I gave them the kale, so I think they're are always hoping for kale. I just can't give them as much as they'd like to have.
Few pigs enjoy being picked up, and although I make sure I can get both hands around and under them, and their feet and hands are always supported, hubby is more likely to just grab him up so I can apply the styptic powder, and no pig likes that. That's one of my issues with store bought cages. The front doors are only big enough for one hand/arm, so there's no way to effectively pick up the pigs without their hands and feet dangling, and like so many prey animals, they fear what comes down on them from above, so just being able to remove the top of the cage doesn't really help, if you can't bring in your hands at their eye level.
The girls were also really crowding in on him to get their treats, so by giving each of them a whole leaf of Romaine lettuce, and spacing them out along the length of the cage, not only do I have the space to get to the wound without having to move an eating pig, and the time to hold the cotton ball on the tumor long enough for the styptic powder to work.

Cadders is very good at picking up on people's moods and exploiting them to his advantage if he can! When he was on his own briefly (post-neutering, as he and Josh were being too lairy with each other and we wanted them to rest) we felt sorry for them being alone, especially Cads who tends to be a bit highly strung. He played us like violins, frankly! It was nice for us all when he could go with Poppy and we couldn't be constantly guilted into extra attention!
The kale sounds like an addictive drug!

The Pigloo City 3 have definitely figured out that we are much more liberal with the treats than we used to be, and are demanding treats every time we move.
Problem, found blood drops on the bedding, but Mortys tumor was dry. We got all three pigs out of the condo and checked them all over, especially the girls, but no sign of bleeding. It's looks like stone or internal tumor blood, UTI, etc. We may have to head back to the vet and have everyone checked out, though if it's a UTI, the best we can do in a group cage is have the all put on Bactrim, and see if that stops it. Very disconcerting.
Otherwise, everyone is acting totally normal.

You are right about that Piggles love, few guinea pigs do like being picked up as do few bunnies, they are not "children's Pets" well only if the adult is prepared to take over when and if the child loses interest. Cadders sounds a little love Bean hun, it is hard not to spoilt a cute piggy. Ours usually wheek when we go into the living room especially if something is rustling. They all have a grape as a treat last night and it went down very well. Glad all is well at Pigloo City Piggles sweetie.

Sorry you've found some blood, and that it can't be explained by Morty's tumour. I hope a bit of observation can give you more of a clue and that it doesn't turn out to be anything difficult to solve. Fingers crossed. x

I'm going to put them in the temp cage for a while, change the bedding, and start fresh. I want to see how much blood I get in one day. The blood from Morty tends to be in large areas, from the size of a quarter to a half dollar, blotted because he lay on that spot and transferred the blood. These spots are about the size of a dime, with the typical central dark spot, getting lighter toward the outside, so it was a drip of blood. It's a bit disconcerting that I've had enough experience with blood on the bedding that I know the difference. So now, I'm looking for signs of urine or poo accompanying the blood, to know if it's a UTI or stones. I'm also cutting back on the kale, which with all its calcium, might have caused stones. I had no blood drops before I started giving them the kale, and it started within a few days of giving them the kale. I'm also listening for any crying when going to the bathroom, so I can figure out who has the problem. Lots of romaine lettuce to keep their systems moving. Maybe I'll get lucky, and figure out who has what problem quickly.

Sounds like you have a good methodical approach to getting to the bottom of it. Hope you get some answers soon, it must be worrying not even knowing who it is.

Nope, no answers. The bleeding stopped. No bleeding for two days. I'm continuing to watch for it, though, so if it starts again, I can monitor it.
I was looking at the original picture of Morty's tumor, and it is easily 2-3 times as big, now. It's also very crusty or scabby, while the first picture shows it being like skin without hair. He's still doing really well. It's not hurting him at all. His eyes are as good as can be expected, and his hearing seems to be fine. I have removed everything he could fall over, so I won't be using the cuddle cups or soft houses until he's gone.
