I am starting to think that I may have made a mistake in sexing Pat and Star and I think that Pat may be pregnant. She is starting to spend a lot of time in one spot, She is slightly more pear shaped, and she is drinking more. I am wondering if I should separate them till I am sure that she is pregnant (I do have an extra cage that I can use)? Are their some at home ways to see if she is pregnant? I am currently without a car so I can't take her to the vet right now. Thank you for any help!

This is the Guinealynx section on sexing: www.guinealynx.info/sexing.html. It may be hard to tell the difference, so if you read all the way to the bottom, the link for Cavy Spirits sexing page is also listed. If she's already pregnant, I doubt she can get any more pregnant, so separating them shouldn't be necessary for that reason. If you're pretty sure, after checking these links, that Star is a boar, then separate them so she can have a calm pregnancy. I've never had a pregnant pig, but most of the basics are covered in our Wheekerpedia section of pregnancy: wheekers.proboards.com/thread/7303/pregnancy-birth. Good luck!

I have fully checked and rechecked. They are both female, and I think that Pat might just be gaining some weight finally which is good. She's been pretty light since I got her so I think it's just more signs of how comfortable they are in their new cage. Thank you everyone for your concern!

I am so glad that all is well love and you do have two ladies after all. I think they sound comfortable and content, hence the weight gain.

I thought my pigs may have been pregnant when I brought them home (they certainly were getting that pear shape). Fortunately, they weren't, they would have been too young...though babies would have been fun! Glad to hear all is well.
