I'm having endless problems with Wheekers/proboards freezing on me. I start typing, and it just freezes. Keyboard and mouse don't work. No spinning wheel showing that it's off thinking about something, and no messages on the bottom of the screen saying what it's trying to do. It's often really ponderous, with every thing it has to do to do anything, being spelled out in messages on the bottom of the page. It's still doing that. I can try to reply, and have it take 5 minutes to go through all the things it needs to do for me to reply. Then I get part of a reply typed, and the whole thing freezes on me. Only Wheekers does it, and not all the time. It started off great today, then started getting really slow, then started freezing. I've replied to a few posts, and I've been here for over an hour. It's that slow. If anyone has any suggestions, please post them.

Do you have a proboards login? You could raise the issue with their support team or check out the support forum.

It does sound like it's specific to Wheekers rather than an internet issue - I had a quick look but the other times people have reported a similar problem, it's turned out to be an issue with plugins that have been added to the forum by the administrators, and I definitely haven't done anything fancy! The ads can cause an issue for some set ups, I wonder if that might be a factor - maybe when you next have a problem, find another proboards forum and see if you can surf that okay or if it's specifically us? The support forum is quite helpful - might be worth posting there if the problems persists. I'd offer to do it for you only they usually ask lots of specific questions about your set up which I won't be able to answer! I'm sorry you're having problems anyway, really hope they resolve soon one way or another.

As I'm new here, I'd like to ask a question or two about the forum. Who's the actual owner? I've seen a global moderator and an administrator. What are the full complement of roles and what function do they have? It's just more of a nice-to-know question than anything else.

I originally started the forum back in 2004, along with a friend (Lisa) who ran a small guinea pig rescue which I'd adopted some pigs from. We had a plan of making a full rescue-friendly website together, which the forum would be part of. It never really worked out for Lisa to have regular time to come on the forum, let alone for us to work on a website. And I ended up having kids just after that so my free time went right down too. But I kept the forum going and over the years, we've had numerous moderators to run the boards. In busier times, we've had teams of mods covering the different forums, but at the moment it's just me and the lovely 3piggles manning the boards. As we're a quieter forum, and thankfully don't seem to attract people who like to get stroppy in their views, it works out just fine.
You can designate a moderator to have powers (to delete, move and edit posts etc) in specific forums, but we tend to use the global moderator status which means you have extra powers across the forum. I think I'm the only one who has the extra powers to do stuff like delete the whole forum with one button push?!
We've had other roles in the past too - for example Guinea Guides who were people we trusted to give good advice. But keeping it simple seems to work better now, and certainly makes it much more manageable for us. I think the only other active status we have now is Wheekers Veteran, which means someone's been a big part of the board for a longer period of time. So many people pass through at a time when they need advice and move on after some weeks or months, which is fine. But some stick around and become a big part of the forum which is great and it's our way of saying that we like having them around!

Once we get a chance for a real breather, I'll have hubby look through the help section. He's really the computer person for software and Internet issues. It's running fine right now, which is why the problem is so hard to pinpoint. I think he figured out that I wasn't making up the problems, when he got back from shopping at 3 stores and getting Morty's meds from the animal hospital, and I hadn't even been to all the different posts yet, much less commented. I did okay with the tablet last night, but I am a touch typist, and that keyboard is totally useless for us. Slow going, but I got caught up. I'm really trying, but there are days when I just can't get it to do anything!
UPDATE: Wheekers froze again this afternoon, so I'll try to get caught up on the tablet, tonight. Hubby has been going through some of it with me, and has some ideas. It froze on us once, so he's going to look at it as soon as he gets a chance.

I hope hub is more help than I've been - that shouldn't be too hard!

Watching my computer performance, when Wheekers freezes, I'm not able to get to the Internet. Everything else works fine, so we have to figure out why Wheekers/proboards, keeps failing to send a signal to the Internet. Hubby has been working on it. When Wheekers works, I get a spike on my wi-fi usage each time I do something. When it doesn't work, no activity on the wi-fi at all. No extreme use of CPU. I'm using less than half of my computer memory, and disc usage varies between 0% and 14% usage, so that's fine. I've put Wheekers on it's own page, so it's not competing with the other tabs. I had Guinealynx on with it, thought that was the problem, and removed it, but will add it back. Guinealynx doesn't constantly update, so it's not a problem.
Hubby said he would check the Proboards support link, and see if there were any Proboards-specific problems, as Wheekers is the only program having problems, and it's having lots of problems. It's possible the current version of Proboards isn't up to date with my current version of Windows 10. Not at all sure what to do, if that's the case.

My husband updated to Windows 10 and has told me not to do it as he's had endless problems with his computer since - problems on certain websites and it slowing down over doing stuff it was processing fine before. Have you had any other problems at all or is it purely Wheekers?
Good luck to detective hub - sounds like he's a great man to have on the case!

Hubby is my tech support, but he's incredibly unreliable. I have asked him to do that, and yep, he's going to get to it, one of these days. I've also asked him to check the support section Bean posted, and he's going to get to that one of these days, too. I only have this problem with Wheekers, so I really want him to read the support section, as that applies to Proboards.

3piggles you haven't mentioned it lately, but is this still a problem for you?

No, it hasn't gotten any better. In fact Saturday it was freezing so badly, I kept walking away rather than getting upset with it. I'm watching my usage, and seeing the usage peak when I'm not doing anything. I did ask hubby to read the support section of Proboards, and to do the other things, and yep, he was going to do them. Now that he's gone back to work, I probably won't get anything more done until summer. He started a lot of projects, then went back to work, so my computer issues are just one of many things on his To Do list I have found it's generally not as bad early in the morning, so have been trying to get on as early as possible. It's just maddening, because I have a super fast computer, with a ton of storage and processing space, and it should be hauling, not crawling.

If it's ongoing and nothing else you do is affected then I'd definitely post on the support forum asking for help. If you explain the problem, they might be able to help you - it could just be a known conflict with another program or something relatively simple.

Chrome. We used to us EI, but it had endless problems. I'm thinking of trying it again. I've tried Mozilla Firefox, and that didn't work.

I use Chrome too for this forum but I'm not an expert. I wonder if there's an extension that is interfering with this forum only. Can you run Chrome with all the extensions disabled and see if it makes a difference?

I will ask hubby about it, as I have no idea how to do that. I'm still trying to get him to check the support page, and see if there's some obvious fix he's overlooking. It's like pulling teeth!
