It's a car crash for sure, and the people he's surrounding himself with are probably more worrying in the extremity of their views, and their ability to actually take action rather than spout hot air. What's the deal with the recounts - do you think anything will actually change because of it, or it'll just get everyone even more fired up about defending what they see as the true result?
I was being dismissive of the whole Black Friday thing (especially as I don't even get why we do it seeing as we don't celebrate Thanksgiving) but the gym I was pondering joining (I just go swimming there really, but regularly enough for it to be more cost effective to join rather than pay each time) have done an ace deal on memberships and I won't have to go much to make a saving on the first few months. It's a great way to try it out without being crippled by the responsibility of having to go really regularly to not waste money! There's no minimum contract so if I don't end up going, I can just cancel in the new year. Wish me luck - I find it harder to motivate myself to swim when it's cold outside (the pool's indoor and heated - it's just the psychological effect of wanting to layer up and stay cosy!).

I doubt the recounts will accomplish anything. There were many ballots that hadn't been counted when he was declared the winner, which was, of course, based on electoral college votes, not popular votes. So far over 1.7M more popular votes have come in for Clinton, but it won't overturn the electoral college vote. That's a done deal Yes, it is scary seeing whom he's putting in positions to make a lot of mistakes, that cost a lot of people way more than it should in lost services. I have to applaud Angela Merkel for telling him to get his act together, or he would be without any support from any of his allies. Even China has told him the climate change issues remain, or he'll be hung out to dry. The problem is, if he surrounds himself with yes people, who keep giving him bad advice, he will slit all of our throats before he realizes it's made a mistake, if he ever realizes or accepts that he has. This is going to be worse than Bush and Cheney, and Cheney even shot someone in the tuckus, allegedly by accident! There was a reputable news source reported that T-rump said he wouldn't stop Obamacare, because it had been signed into law, and changing a law is difficult. If that's the case, I don't think he can overturn LGBT rights, and possibly not Roe v. Wade, either. I guess it depends on the level of law it is, though I don't really know. George W. Bush promised voters all sorts of things he knew he couldn't deliver, and never intended to deliver, but it got him the votes. I'm wondering if T-rump did a lot more of that than the news sources are acknowledging. If so, while those maniacs he's appointing to important positions want to make a lot of negative changes, most of those changes may not be legal to make. One thing that does concern me is the history of a republican president and a republican congress/senate. The Great Depression happened during one of those eras, as did the Great Recession that happened during George W. Bush's tenure. I believe there was one other, but I can't remember which, with the same result. We lost our retirement account in 2006, thanks to George W Bush causing a recession that bordered on a depression. We would have had 11 years to rebuild it as much as possible, if hubby hadn't been laid off from his job, and taking almost a year to get another one. Now that we've rebuilt some of what we lost, thanks mostly to my inheritence from my mother, we're facing the exact same thing. That's really unnerving. It's not as if we're retiring in style, could travel, do anything we want. If we're conservative, we can be comfortable. Meanwhile, the cost of living keeps increasing, our social security payments keep not being increased if even one expensive decreased, and the deductibles for Medicare keep increasing. We still can't afford to get sick Still, many reputable news sources are saying they think the endless Washington gridlock is going to keep him from doing much of what he wants to do, just as it's stymied every other president. He hasn't been exposed to all the lobbyist and special interest groups. Time will tell!

There are so many different factors that'll dictate how much he can do - aside from the whole problem of him actually knowing what he really wants to do in the first place... How do the people who voted for him feel - are they full of anticipation or starting to see that he might not do any of the things they expected?
With Brexit, even after many people realised they'd been lied to in the campaign and had a glimpse of the problems that will affect us if we leave, they still seem to want to stick to their guns for the sake of it, despite not believeing us leaving is a good thing anymore. Cognitive dissonance at it's finest/ worst.

Cognitive dissonance is flourishing in the US. It's as if they are all celebrating having finally gotten someone who thinks the way they think, as president. They don't care if the win was fraudulent, if he's a monster, or even if he'll ruin our economy, only that they won. There is a recount under way in Michigan, the state where the electoral college vote pushed him to the win. I doubt it will change anything, but we never know. I'm not holding my breath, and if it does change the outcome, his supporters will probably go on rampages. Lose, lose situation. Also, since the republicans when the house and senate, if Clinton got the presidency, she wouldn't accomplish anything.

Ooh, deccies and luncheon with a friend! Sounds great Not to worry, Jo, we were just discussing the possibilities when Trump becomes president. All guesswork at this point. The generator is being installed today, so we will have to turn off the electricity at some point. No computers during that time, as well as no fridges/freezers, so I hope it's not for very long. He should be arriving at any time, and hubby wants the computers brought down, just in case, so they're shut down correctly. And he's here, so I'm off the computer for a while Next day The generator installer didn't get everything done, but by 6 p.m., it was getting too cold and yucky to do anything more. The rain is supposed to move out by Thursday, I think, so he'll be able to schedule the last of the work. I think the generator is all installed, but the electricity to the shed, and the circuit breaker in the shed weren't installed. I went out to the shed to get peanuts for the peanut feeder, forgot they had run trenches everywhere yesterday, and fell in one which is totally saturated with rain. We've had half an inch of rain, but are slated for about 1.5 inches before the rain finally moves out. We really need the rain, but after all the trenching, the backyard is a muddy mess. No getting out to walk today, and possibly not tomorrow, but I did get the mail and bring in the wheelie bin, as well as put some peanuts in the peanut feeder. They way the peanut feeder was cleaned out, I think the birds knew lousy weather was coming

The meals sound fabulous, Jo! I'm glad you're having friends in and good food. Enjoy The generator installers are coming back tomorrow afternoon, so everything should be finished tomorrow, barring any rain to keep them away. We have more rain moving in later today, so the back yard could be an even muddier mess tomorrow than it was yesterday.

The rain stopped early this morning, and the wind is blowing, so the ground has had a chance to dry out. The generator installers shouldn't have any trouble finishing the job. It will be nice to have electricity in the shed, so hubby can wire in some lights and switches. It's really nice to see the sun again, after two totally gloomy days. It's also warm enough for a lite jacket, so my walk was really nice this morning. Supposed to have a long stretch of sunny days

I don't know how well I would do without regular sunshine I could count on. We have gloomy periods, but far more sun than gloom. Even today, which is sunny with a lot of clouds, it's nice to see the blue sky in between the clouds. If I had any other reason to move there except for the sun, I would move to Colorado, which gets something like 361 days of sun per year. The generator is all installed. It was put through it's paces yesterday, and came in quickly and smoothly when the power was cut. Nice to have that done, and know it will be there when we need it. Somehow, I forgot to post this on Friday? Sorry about that

Sometimes we go for days and days without any sunshine Piggles love. When it does appear we say "What is that strange golden thing in the sky?" Blue sky can be quite rare too. The nights are drawing in now so as I type this evening is fast approaching. They say we may have a white Christmas here but I won't hold my breath. I am glad the generator is up and running.
