Happy New Year to everyone!
I'm a bit weary today as despite going to bed a couple of hours later than usual, my annoying body clock woke me up at the same time! But we have a nice chilled out day planned and have family coming over for a meal later, so it should be a good start to the year!

Happy New Year, all! I hope everyone survived any celebrations last night. We stayed home, off the roads and away from the drunk drivers. Got about an inch of snow, but it was light and fluffy, so no problem. Did our first shopping of the year. Sounds silly, but there were some fabulous sales. I have an old, wooden, expandable sewing box hubby bought me in 1979. It's heavy and bulky, and getting too old to lug it around. Bought a couple of plastic organizer containers, 50% off at the fabric store. I have the items I used most often, in a small container, and all my specialty items and overflow in the big one, all well organized. Quite pleased with the purchase. I will clean out and polish the old one, and take it to the charity store for someone else to use Good start to the new year

I've got a sewing box like that from my gran, and I love it. It's not really heavy though. The plastic boxes sound like a much more practical solution for you, 3piggles, and I bet someone else will get a lot of pleasure out of the wooden box.

We rearranged the office on Friday, and once again, I can't find the instructions for loading pics from the phone. I'll take some pics using the camera, and post those in a bit Nice weather today. Hubby has gone to storage while the weather is good. We normally have to renew our storage lease around this time of year, so he's trying to organize getting all the stuff out of there, so we don't have to renew the lease for another year. If we only renew on a monthly basis, it's a ridiculous amount of money per month, so time to get his butt in gear, and clean out the storage unit. Everyone is back to school and work tomorrow. Holiday time off is nice, but so is getting back to normal The wooden sewing box is rectangular, with a large storage space at the bottom, and a set of two segments that fold out on each side. It served me really well. It's just very solid, and being rectangular, to bulky for me to carry around easily. This is the first house where I have no place for it down beside my seat in the living room, and have to carry it out from the closet to use it. Having the small box with the things I tend to always need is also nice. It's lite weight and small. I also really got to organize what's in the kit, as after 35 years, it was pretty disorganized. I found all the badgets daughter earned when she was in Girl Scouts, lol. I never got them sewn on to her sash Now, I can see just about everything at a glance, so I don't keep replacing what I already have, just because I couldn't find it in the mess Big sewing box with drawers: Small Sewing Box with fold out sections: Old Sewing box:

My wooden one is a similar style but without the metal frame - that must add a lot of weight. The new ones look much more practical for you now.
It was the return to work and school here this morning - a bit of a tough get up for a few of us, but everyone made it up on time!

That was just like the one mummy had, I used to be fascinated by all the different coloured cottons and she had a pin cushion which was a ladybird, that I really loved. I wish I was good at needlework, I imagine it to be so satisfying.

I have a tomato pincushion, but would love a ladybird one Of course, once I got everything arranged as I wanted it, I found a ton of stuff in a desk drawer. I think I may go back to the store and look at some other containers, perhaps one just to carry all the threads I have, seem to keep multiplying Hubby got off early this morning, I think, because he turned off my alarm before it went off at 6:45 a.m. It's raining today, and just a few degrees above freezing, so I think he wants to get home before the temps drop and make the roads slippery. For me, it was back to my low cal breakfast and lunch. Hubby likes to have a hearty breakfast, and likes me to make him nice sandwich for lunch. Great, except that I don't normally eat that much, so I've had indigestion and bloating all weekend. I ordered a copper pan ( www.copperchef.com/shop.php?gclid=Cj0KEQiAtK3DBRCBxt-Yxduq5p4BEiQAbFiaPc0VCE8Dcpc16Cv5qzI8QKeZrbCXbm-qVMeSPLOwCjEaAr4i8P8HAQ ) from an online store I used a lot and have had great luck with so far. The order form said FREE for the shipping and handling amount, through all the options to change anything. As soon as I submitted the order, it tacked on $12 in shipping and handling. I think this was a bug in their program, possibly from overwork over the hols. When I got the emailed order confirmation, I emailed them about the suddenly added shipping charges. They are going to send me a refund of the charges as soon as the order ships, so I don't have to resubmit the order. I will definitely order from them again. We really like the Tempura veggies, and want an easy way to do them with limited mess and clean up. Hope this pan does the trick.

Glad the glitch was sorted out without any fuss, that's the kind of customer service you want!
I think most people tend to overeat a bit in some way or another over the holidays (and also be a little less active which affects our digestion), and while it's nice to do it, it's always good to get back to the routines that make you feel your best.
I've been following a low fodmap diet for a few months and feeling really good for it. It was really difficult sticking to it while visiting people over Christmas - it's complicated to get your head around and people would try to accommodate me, but still end up adding stuff I shouldn't have to my food (I've learned a few things about how to better prepare the next time we're away with other people cooking!). I've been reminded why I'm doing it anyway, so have got back on track!

Oooh I'm always hungry when I wake up - I had a nice bacon sarnie this morning, alongside a nice cuppa. The only time I'm not a hungry in the morning is when I eat late at night, but I rarely do that as I don't feel good going to bed with a full belly and don't sleep as well either. I can't do the full cooked breakfasts anymore though - it just makes me feel sluggish!

Oh no Bean hunni, not I. It probably has a lot to do with the fact that I am really morose in the morning so the last thing I want to do is eat. I always wake up feeling so terribly depressed, I just wish there were something I could do about it.

When I'm depressed, I not only don't want breakfast, I don't want to get out of bed. Sort of a self-defeating cycle When I'm not depressed, I can do a lite breakfast. Even if Hubby makes his weekend breakfast, it's still lite enough for me. I had bread this morning, but normally I have my coffee and my Slimfast drink. I can't eat very much at a time, or my digestion goes nuts. I try to eat more, small amounts. I also have to eat before I go to bed, as I don't fall asleep very easily, and can be up for hours. If I don't eat something and get past the indigestion, I will be up all night. I try to have a small bowl of cold cereal before bed, as the milk is a sleep aid. Ugh, sorry everyone tried to be so accommodating, they ended up not accommodating you. Would it help to bring your own food? I had a friend with a food allergy, and she just brought her own foods to a party, and that way no one had to go out of their way for her, and she didn't have to risk them not getting it right. My mother used to take a veggie platter as a hostess gift, when she went to someones house for dinner. That way instead of canapes and other fattening foods before dinner, she had veggies. I finally got out to walk again, though I think I forgot to take the diuretic this morning, so may have painful legs tonight. I think the diuretic is working. I just have to remember to take it. I'm also taking potasium, as diuretics drain potasium. As expensive as some pans are, Jo, no, these aren't that expensive. They are also supposed to last forever, though that's still to be seen. It started with a local discount store having one version of this pan on sale. They were all out when we went to buy it, so I looked online. I found they were available from different manufacturers, and who manufactured it seemed to determine the price. So I read reviews, then I checked with a catalog store I've used several times, that does all it's own testing and only sells what they are willing to back. The one they had was medium priced, and tested by them, so I bought that one. It's more expensive than the one from the discount store, by only about half of what one online store wanted, so I figure it's right in the middle.

Absolutely piggles love, I too just want to stay where I am with the covers over me. I hope your leggies are not too painful after your walk, I did some walking yesterday and feel really pleased with myself. I even managed to go up some stairs.
I know what you mean about the pans Piggles hun, I remember seeing some and they were literally hundreds of pounds for a set but I forget the name. They were last forever type things which is alright if you can afford the initial outlay.

I save up for those pans, Jo. I put away what I can, when I can, and when I have enough, I buy them. They do last forever, so per use, or however you want to grade them, they are far less expensive than the ones that have to be replaced regularly. It does mean I can't always have what I want when I want, but that's okay. I'm trying to teach my daughter to save for the things she wants, but she hasn't mastered it yet A friend of mine is having trouble with depression, which she has periodically, but when she does, she gets very negative about her self. Her mom is terminally ill, and she knows her mom won't last much longer, and it's really weighing on her. I'm doing my best to talk her through it, but I feel badly that she beats up on herself so much when she's depressed. Kind of the It's a Wonderful Life approach. She needs to realize how much she means to how many people, but she can't see it. Wish me luck. It's already Thursday, and I've been out of wack all week. Monday was a work day off for Hubby, so the real week didn't start until Tuesday. I'll be glad when next Monday comes, and I'm back on schedule again! Please, no more hols for a while

That is great love, I have never been able to save money. It is true, cheap anything doesn't tend to last and ends up being more expensive in the long run. I do wish you luck with your friend hun. I am negative about myself if I am depressed or not. It is something my therapist is trying to fix.

I never used to be able to save money, but after hitting rock bottom financially once too often, I'm more afraid of running out of money than I am of not having what I want. I've been saving every penny we didn't absolutely need, and we've been buying things we'll need long term, while hubby is still working. We're replacing some things just because I have trouble handling them, so we've bought newer, lighter weight and more versatile versions. My daughter is happy to get the old ones. Fixing a negative self-image is really hard at the best of times, but when you've had that self-image for as long as you and I have had ours, it's a really battle. I work on it constantly, and hope you can make some real progress with the therapist. We were raised in an era of absolutes, and it's really hard to have a positive self-image in such an era. Always having to live up to someone else's expectations and standards is exhausting. Good luck Once hubby retires, I definitely want to re-establish date night. We used to do it on Friday nights, but between weather, other responsibilities and just being too tired to enjoy ourselves, it got lost in the shuffle. I think maybe Wednesday, once he retires, so we can eat before the main dinner rush. That way we got to go out one night a week, nothing fancy, but no clean up, and that was nice. It also kept us from spending a lot of money going out on other nights for little errands, then eating out because it was getting late. It actually saved us money

It's good to have a regular night to do something or life ends up getting in the way and you never get round to it! My mum has the kids one day a week so we try to do something then, usually catching a film or a bite to eat.
Jo, I wish you could see yourself as we do - you're so lovely, kind, generous and funny. I hope your therapist can help you feel more at ease with yourself. xx
