Unfortunately, Jo, who makes the decision about who gets to breed and who doesn't has been an issue of debate for generations. The Nazi's decided the Jews shouldn't be allowed to breed. Western Europeans started anti-breeding programs in Africa, to stop Africans from breeding.Even Americans have promoted sterilizing people below a certain IQ, addicts, minorities, etc., and I believe the Nazi program was based on a US program, though I don't know if the US program was ever started. It's called Eugenics, the process of selectively breeding out the problems, and breeding in the strengths of a species. Who gets to decide who does and doesn't get to breed? Would you want Trump making that decision? Would you want the Nazis, Nigel Farage, etc., making that decision? What would stop bigots and racists from using Eugenics to destroy any minority they don't like? That's why it's never become an accepted practice, even if different groups try to sneak it in to their welfare systems, and get away with it until they are caught and prosecuted. Sad that that's the alternative some people choose to deal with those they don't like Got a foot or more of snow yesterday, and started with a -5F temp at 7 a.m. this morning. The wind has picked up, so while I think it's a few degrees warmer by now, I'm not sure it feels much warmer.

Don't take it to heart Piggles, it was only said on the spur of the moment. Of course it couldn't be put into practice, I know that! I wasn't suggesting that anyone should be culled, I just thought it would be nice if unpleasant people didn't breed more unpleasant people that is all!!! I only said what many people think, only they mean it, I don't!! I know what went on in Nazi Germany and other places, I don't need reminding!!

I knew you weren't suggesting we actually do it, Jo, but that fact that there are always people we would have kept from breeding, it is an idea that has been around for a really long time, and I doubt is going to go away any time soon. I know you meant it as you wish there were a way to stop the bad and promote the good, and I think most people agree. It just always comes down to who gets to make the decision, so we never get to do it.
Seems strange that so many alleged christians are so up in arms about cloning and abortion, but favor Eugenics for those who oppose them?
Be careful what we wish for, right!

Great post Piggles love and yes, we do not live in an ideal world alas, far from it. What it comes down to is I just wish everyone would be nice to each other but there are those of us who have been wishing for this since time began and it is never going to happen. Absolutely, they say the road to hell is paved with good intentions, how true.

Considering that humans encompass all of the other species traits, from the apex predator to the herd animals to the rats and the snakes, it's probably amazing any of us care about anyone else, at all. I wish there were a way to open people's eyes and minds to the value of other people and other ideas. That's not going to happen, so we have to make do with what we've got, and that's a whole lot of people with widely varying ideas, ideologies, interpretations of the exact same texts and laws, and that's the way it's going to stay.
I don't know if anyone remembers an episode of Star Trek when Kirk and gang went to a planet where everyone agreed, no one argued, no one had any ideas of their own, and they were sheep. It definitely dealt with the idea of what it would be like if we did all agree and all get along. Kind of scary. I think I'd rather disagree, but I do wish people would have ideas because those ideas made sense, and not because all of their friends believed those ideas.

I sort of remember that Star Trek episode piggles love and you are absolutely right, things wouldn't work if we all agreed on everything and nothing would get done. I think we are stuck with the way we are and the ways the human race thinks, I just wish we could somehow manage a happy medium so at least there was more love and happiness.

I think we're lacking in respect and compassion for each other, and in a willingness to compromise. Trump has pointed out how divided Americans are on most issues, although I think he's created divides that weren't really there before he made them front page news. Social media has also contributed to the divide, by taking not very important issues, blowing them out of proportion, and making them into hugely divisive issues. Trump is basically making Birth of a Nation out of every little issue. I think he enjoys getting people angry, so they support him, while he makes empty claims about how he's the only one who understands them, or can save America for them. www.filmsite.org/birt.html Birth of a Nation was one of the most racist, divisive films ever made, and it's still a KKK recruiting tool, today

I don't think I have ever heard of that film Piggles love and I think it is dreadful that it is giving way to KKK recruitment. I haven't been following it as closely as I should but I bet the KKK just love Trump even if they are the only ones who do.

The KKK publicly supported him as THEIR candidate for president, which really means anyone who voted for him approves of everything he said, and supports him! Frightening! Birth of a Nation was totally an anti-African American, racist film portraying blacks as animals who would rape and brutalize white women, and basically commit every heinous crime imaginable. It was such a forcefully done film, it even convinced Unitarian ministers that blacks were evil. That's pretty hard to do, since Unitarians are generally as open to everyone as it's possible to be. No real dogma in that religion. Not a lot of religion in that religion, either. That fact that, once again, something that was supposed to be entertainment(though totally lacking in any form of compassion for humanity) became a battle cry to hate and hurt one group of people

In 1915 there were no rules or regulations on the movie industry. The movie industry was so new, no one even knew what rules and regulations there should be. When TV started, with the original network channels of ABC, NBC and CBS in 1941, there were some broadcast ethics rules that only permitted adult TV after the family hour, which is why most nighttime dramas aren't aired until 10 p.m. Time for the kids to watch their shows, and go to bed, letting the parents watch the shows not intended for kids. That led to ratings for TV shows and movies. It also led to the creation of cable TV stations by the hundreds, because cable TV isn't regulated the way network TV is. Even into the 1950s, a radio show became a TV show called The Amos and Andy Show. It was about 2 black men who were too stupid to get out of their own ways, so were constantly being taken advantage of. It outraged black viewers, so it didn't last very long, but continued as a radio show There are episodes of old TV series such as The Gene Autry Show, presenting black people as lazy, stupid, superstitious and scared of everything. American TV has been slow to ban stereotypes, which is one reason why I rarely watch sitcomes. That's where most of the stereotypes are.

That's true Piggles love. I also find it in cartoons too, a certain type is portrayed in a certain ways like the crows in Dumbo. Yes they were hilarious but once again, shown to be a bit daft.

Wild turkeys are extremely intelligent, have a very strongly established and workable hierarchy that allows everyone to do all the jobs, on a rotating basis, yet in cartoons, they are usually portrayed as stupid and easily scared. They are more likely to attack than run away in fear, especially if people get too close to their young.
Then there's the dumb blond woman. I've noticed it's never a dumb blond man. Always a woman. I've known some very intelligent blonds, and some totally ditzy brunettes, you blond and female is a stereotype these women have to overcome before they can even get people to listen to them.
What's worse is that Hollywood and TV producers seem to figure if a certain charicature worked for one producer, why not beat it to death with endless versions of the same thing, until it stops being funny, and becomes a stereotype. I really wish they'd use their own brains, instead of copying other people.

I was bitten by a turkey once in a so called petting zoo, he came to the front and I stupidly thought he was wanting a fuss. He really managed to take a chunk out of me and it hurt. His name was Boris and for some reason, I visited him regularly and became quite fond of him, I just didn't try and pet him again lol!
Yes it is true about the dumb blond Piggles love and indeed I have found that someone's personality has nothing to do with hair colour. In many films the baddy is English but I find that quite funny.

Film baddies have come with pencil thin mustaches, wearing black hats, dressed all in black, or the typical English version of carrying a riding crop with the obvious intent to whip anyone who disobeyed. Fiction has created these stereotypes, but between films, TV and social media, they've become fact

That is true Piggles love, like Terry Thomas in "Those Magnificent Men in their flying machines" and Dick Dastardly in "Wacky Races." Another favourite is the cigarette holder balanced between teeth and sometimes a monocle.

Hehehe, I loved the monocle and the cigarette holder props. They are so presumptuous, and so perfect for the baddies The good guys were always light, pretty or strong, not wearing black or any of the other things that made him into a baddie. The baddies were also always a bit oily, while the good guys were clean and neat.

I have never thought about it before but you are right Piggles love, the good guys never wear black. With the ladies it tends to be pastel colours and for the chaps it is white or some other appropriate colour. Yes, the bad guys also tend to be sleazy.

The good female characters also dress conservatively, while the bad female characters tend to dress extremely. A bit different with The Devil Wears Prada, but not completely outrageous. Prada is expensive, so she's indulging herself in ways that a modest or conservative woman wouldn't necessarily.
