More sad news,. Fluffy my tarantula has died, Paul found her this morning. She was such a sweetie and I will miss her very much. I remember all the times in Shropshire when she was happy to be held by all the kiddies bless her and probably cured a few of their fear. I know I have had her for nearly 19 years but it still hurts.

This has been a terrible week for you, Jo. Maybe most people wouldn't think of a tarantula as a pet, but they're family, just the same.

Thank you Baz love, she was very much a part of the family and much loved. Most people's attitudes to pets like this make me very cross.

Oh no Jo, I'm so sorry - what a tough weekend for you. 18 sounds like an amazing age and I'm glad she helped lots of kids realise we don't need to be scared of spiders (well, not in our country anyway!). It must be such a shock to not have her around after she's been in your life for so long.
Sleep tight Fluffy. x

Oh my god, what a tough week for you. As much as I just can't handle the thought of having a tarantula as a pet, because I'm terrified of spiders, I can understand what it's like to lose a pet, no matter what type of pet. I'm really sorry for your loss. 😢 I had no idea they lived that long, but it sounds like she was loved and will be missed!! That name though... it's awesome 😀

Hugs Jo xx While I admit I get a little nervous about spiders, I refuse to kill them when I find them in my house. I let them stay, provided they behave (they usually do) and the few exceptions are when I find them in my daughter's room; Vicki can't bear the thought of one falling on her face at night, so we capture them and set them free outside in the warm weather seasons. (I also do this when I find them in apartments I'm working in, since tenants are not so forgiving.) Spiders kill bad bugs- they are our friends.

Thank you Baz hunni and that is fair enough. I know many people are frightened of them and we are all frightened of something so I quite understand. It really annoys me when people just kill them because they are there and they can. Sick!! I think it is lovely that you don't kill them despite the fear they create in dear little Vicki and yes, they are indeed our friends.

Years back, I used to get my husband to come and put them outside but leave them be now - pretending I wasn't afraid for the kids actually worked and I mostly stopped being bothered. Baz, you do well to leave them be if they do instill a little discomfort in you!
My son found a big one in the garden that he put on his hand to watch, but it crawled up his sleeve and onto his body under his clothes. His face was a picture, he was clearly a bit freaked out but didn't want to move in case he accidentally squashed it! So I had to pull his t-shirt off carefully to make sure everyone escaped unscathed!

I used to be scared of them too Bean love until I thought one day, why not make them your friends instead and it worked. Not showing fear in front of kids is the key, I have known several mums to do the same. Oh bless your son being more concerned about squashing spiddy, that is really nice and well done to you for helping. I love holding spiders and Paul is always saying "Put him back he doesn't want to be cuddled" LOL!

Luckily I don't have many spiders in my apartment, because they really freak me out. The ones I do find, I try to catch in a glass and then I put them outside. I can't kill them either and why should they die, just because I don't like them?

That is lovely Whimsy love, I wish more people were like you. What a stupid cowardly man, no doubt the poor little thing drowned.

Jo, I think they're okay if the water doesn't have any (or much) detergent in as they can hold little bubbles of water under their legs when they curl up, to keep them afloat until they get to something they can hold on to. That water looked pretty clear so hopefully it was okay, despite its encounter with the silly man!

Thank you for explaining that to me Piggles love. I might have known they would be able to "swim" or have some other survival skill when it comes to water love them. I hope the little chap was OK. I have rescued many a spiddy from water and always look for them in the shower before I turn it on.

Aw, geeze, I'm so sorry, Jo Again, this just popped up on my Wheekers? You really have had a rough week of it. Hopefully having Timmy join you will give you some happiness, and help you through it all. Wow, 19! I didn't know they lived that long! Seems like a good, long life, which means a happy Fluffy. Huge hugs

Thank you Piggles love, I hope so too. He is terribly huffy at the moment but I have been told that he will be until he gets used to me. I just hope I don't end up with another Lewie because Timmy isn't giving me any pleasure at the moment, just worry.

Let your pleasure come from the fact that you have given him a great home, and probably saved his life. If your pleasure comes from demands on him, he feels that. I don't put any demands on my pigs, just that they be the best they can be for themselves, and that they be happy. Are hedgies social animals? Would it help to get him a pal? I really don't know. Guinea pigs definitely are social animals, and generally do much better with a friend. It brings the shy, skittish ones out of their shells enough to let them enjoy life more, and that's really obvious in how they interact with their environments. Obviously, just like people, animals don't always respond well. Some have so much baggage, they can't overcome it. But most, given a good habitat and a good friend, blossom.

That makes perfect sense Piggles love, thank you for that. No they are not social animals and have to be kept on their own apparently. If I could have had two I would have but on second thoughts, maybe not!. He was fine with Paul last night but once he came to me he started huffing. He did settle down and go to sleep on me but still huffed when he woke up. I really hope this changes.
