We very rarely have storms here, they usually manage to avoid us which is a shame because when the weather is really hot (once in a blue moon) it is nice to have a storm to clear the air. I always worry about the little animals though, some are so afraid f thunder.
I am afraid we are giving Timmy back Bean love as much as it grieves us. Last night was dreadful. Haha, I think if I sang to him Bean love, it would really tip him over the edge. This is so sad but I just don't think it was meant to be. Having past experience of hoggies, I just know he isn't going to change. He is so frightened when he is out and huffs all the time, it is unpleasant for him and for us.

I'm back! We got about 20 inches of snow from the storm, never lost power despite some really nasty wind gusts. Our cable/internet provider had transmission wires go down somewhere, which totally knocked them offline. We lost them at 5 Tuesday afternoon, and got it back last night at 11 p.m. We accomplished more without the TV or Internet, but I found the TV and Internet gave me something to do when I sat down to rest the old body, and without those, I just kept getting up and doing more things. Had some really painful nights, after really overdoing it during the day. It didn't help that the meditation music I was listening to to help me fall asleep was a streamed music video. I didn't think about that until we didn't have Internet, or wifi, and I had to use mobile data to stream the video. Mobile Data is usually turned on, so I never thought about it being the only way I was streaming the music. We used 32% of our monthly alotment, with 29 days left to go in our billing month, so I couldn't even go on the Internet using the mobile data. I had to ration it. Now that the wifi is working again, I have the mobile data turned off, and have asked Vic to turn off his, too, so it is only using data if we specifically turn it back on. My bad However, and checking our mobile status, I found out the bill had dropped radically, I have been paying the same amount I used to pay, and now have a $100 credit The only thing I can figure is that we paid for our phones monthly, until they were paid off. They apparently got paid off, and since I only check to make sure the monthly bill isn't more than I have set on autopay, I never noticed how big the credit had gotten. Not bad We also bought a TV antenna, a digital one, to see what channels we could get with that. If we get the basic channels we want with that, a one-time purchase, with all the Roku options,we won't really need the cable TV we're paying for. We will still need the internet from that company, but I think the bill will be a lot less. I have to really crunch the numbers, just to be sure. Still close to 100K people without power in the New England area, but every day a large chunk gets power restored, so I think everyone should be back up by the end of the weekend. We didn't lose power. Niether did our daughter, although she said power was out in most of her town, just not her little area. Hubby is working from home, so I am grabbing computer time while he's out of the office. He said my speed typing distracts him. If I can get everything else done, I'll make him wear his earphones later, so I can get caught up

Good to have you back, 3piggles, and glad that the power stayed on for you, even if the internet didn't. I hope the people who were cut off get their power back soon.
I know what you mean about realising how many things use wi-fi - we have a music system which relies on an interbet connection to connect up the speakers around the house with our server (which all the music is on). So although all the music is right in front of us, without the internet we can't listen to it properly!
Jo, I'm really sorry to hear that you've lost hope on changing things with Timmy - I totally understand how upset you are at feeling that he doesn't like you and that you can't make him happy. You can't bear the thought it's your fault, but I really don't believe it is. You're kind, caring and would give him a great home and I'm just really sad that this experience will make you feel down about yourself. Hope you are okay.

Great to see you back dear friend but sorry about the amount of snow you are having. Yes, we are are meeting Helen again next Thursday Bean hunni and she is bringing a little girl with her and she is taking Timmy back. If this doesn't work out, we aren't going to try again. Thank you for your kind words sweetie, they are much appreciated.

Are you going to make sure you have a bit of time with the little female hog before you take her home with you? If the feeling you get from them right away can make you feel like it won't work, this might save you more stress over the coming weeks. You can also get some hands on advice from Helen, which is always so much better than a phone call or email. I really hope this girl works out for you and that Timmy can find a lovely new home where he feels happy and secure. x

I talked to a hedgie mom friend on Facebook, and she said it's imperative to handle them a lot, the more the better. She has children of varying ages, none tiny, and everyone in the family handles their hedgie, who is quite a friendly chap. She said it takes a lot to get the hedgies to relax and realize you aren't a predator, so the more you can handle them, the better. Try getting your new girl out of the cage regularly, for longer periods, even if she gets to go into a basket or something beside you so she can pee or sleep. Just have her with you, and give her lots of petting, attention and snuggles. She also wished you the best of luck with your hedgie Ah, the wifi speakers around the house. As you said, Bean, they're great until the wifi is gone. Most businesses, now, even cottage industries, use the Internet for sales/advertising. Most of them count on the Internet for that, so when the provider can't provide it, those businesses suffer. I'm surprised, considering the number of lawsuits likely to come from lost business, that our provider didn't have a better way of protecting the wires. I realize every city/town where the wires run through gets to say how the wires are going to be run through, overhead or underground. If the cable company wants to sell in that municipality, they have to run the wires according to local instructions. So if running the wires on utility poles is the only option they have in many places, that's really all they can do. The provider had electricty, and was providing the signals, the signals just weren't going anywhere because of downed wires. As more places become dependent on Internet, I think ways will be devised to make sure it can be provided constantly. My car is in the hospital I've had trouble shifting into first gear for quite a while, several years, but it's always sorted itself once all the fluids warmed up. It stopped sorting itself, so I got into first maybe twice out of every 10 tries. Turns out there is some corrosion from it being parked outside all the time(the joy of an American made car), so the repair shop has to drain the fluid, let everything dry, remove the corrosion, treat the area, and put everything back together. The repair guy told Hubby it's not expensive, it just needs time to dry, for the acid or whatever they use to do the job, and to get it cleaned up and back together. So she'll be home tomorrow or Tuesday. When we got back from shopping yesterday, the driveway looked so empty without her. I always like the idea that when we took one car, there was still another car in the drive, so anyone casing the houses couldn't tell if someone were still home. I'll be glad to have her back

Ladies, excuse my absence for the past week- my computer went down and I had no way of getting online. I had to wait until the weekend to take my computer to a friend to look it over, but we couldn't find anything wrong when we hooked it up. (It went through an update, and any error logs were deleted.) of course, it performed normally when my buddy was examining it. As far as I can tell, things might be back to normal. If I disappear again, it's just technical issues. Hope everyone is doing well.

Yes Bean hunni, I believe I will be able to tell straight away if the little girl is going to be the same and if that is the case, I will come home hogless. It is something I cannot explain but Timmy was huffing all the way home and even then I felt crest fallen. I hoped it was just being in the car but no, he is exactly like Lewie was. If I come back with her I will take her out a lot Piggles love because when they are friendly it is such a pleasure. I will pick up more tips from Helen but it would have been better if she could have come here because the home is a more relaxed place for everyone than a service station but it is a very long way for her to come or us to go to her for that matter. I have had him in my hands, sitting on my chest when I am watching tell but he is just huffing and jumping all the time which is no good for either of us. Please thank your friend for me too hunni for her advice and thank you fortelling her about my hoggy situation in the first place. I too hope I can give her a good home where she will be happy, at the moment I feel a total failure and worry about Timmy being unhappy.
I hope your car is better soon Piggles love, someone backed into us a couple of weeks ago and Paul has a painful shoulder as a result.
Welcome back Baz darling and for warming us if you should disappear. I hope your puter behaves himself!
Hugs Jo xx

I figured it was your renovations forcing you off the computer, Baz. Sorry it was your computer. It's maddening when they don't work, and no one can find what's wrong. I worked on computer hardware, and there are problems that only occur under certain circumstances. Maybe it was something like that? Glad you're back.
I was gone with no Internet. I'm starting to think my keyboard is screwed up, as every time I try to log in after an update and restart, I can type my password a dozen times, and it won't recognize it. Then one more time, and Oh, It's you!
How is the house reno going? Almost done?

This must have been one of those rare occasions where a simple update fixed all the issues. I'm grateful for that; I was close to spending money on an outside company, as I didn't want to bother any of my friends who do tech support (I hate to call in too many favors) but I've been doing things all day and there have been no issues. House renovation is basically done, but there are small jobs here and there, such as hanging curtains, building small bookcases and selecting new pieces of furniture. I suppose I should have taken a few "before" pics of the dining room, but what it was before was not terribly photogenic. (a simple bedroom) My older brother is doing some painting for us; once he's done we should be about 99.9% done! I do have a few pics of the interior and Vicki's new room- I'll try to get a final pic or two and get them up for comparison!

Glad you're almost done - that'll be a nice feeling after so many weeks of chaos!
Hope your computer problems have vanished into thin air too. My husband took his mobile back to the shop this weekend as he was having major problems with the battery draining quickly and also it overheating when charging. They asked him to leave it at the shop for testing, so he did a factory reset, just to be secure. They tested it, said it was fine and it has been ever since. I don't really get it, but glad it's now working and hope it lasts!
Jo, I really hope you and the hoggy girl are a perfect match, but if you're not, then it's not because you've failed. Some creatures just need people with the right experience and confidence in handling them. You can do that for all sorts of other animals, and I'm sure with the right coaching it'd come so you could win round fellows like Timmy too. Just because it doesn't come naturally for you, it doesn't say anything bad about you; the fact you so desperately want him to be where he's happy says far more.
Hope your car is back with you soon, 3piggles. Hopefully once the shifting problems have been fixed, driving it will be a more relaxing and pleasurable experience!

My car is home. She's running great. The repair shop even tightened the brakes for me. I think I was low on brake fluid. It only cost $142, and the guys at the shop said my car is a gem. This is the second time a repair place has said that, which irritates hubby, as he'd like to trade it for something that costs a lot more, but is more his style. I pointed that out to him, and he just muttered under his breath I guess all they had to do was scrape/brush off the corosion, put an anti corrosive on it, let it dry and put it back together. Not even sure if they took anything apart to put back together. I will have to make sure I drive it more, though, so it doesn't sit out in the wet and not move. I don't even have 75K miles on it, and it's a 2003, so I can't justify trading a car that runs, costs hardly anything to insure or register, and suits our lifestyle. Ah, glad you are 99% finished, Baz, though I know how those little jobs can run on for a while. It must be so nice to have your house and your lives back Can't wait to see the pictures I think you're right about having the pets and the people fit each other. We've had many pets over the years, and some loved hubby, some loved me, some loved daughter. They pick their people. It's best to meet and greet before taking them home, but for some pets, they'll sort us out quickly, and find their place in the family, so no problem I hope the hedgie girl is a great fit, Jo

That's a really good price for a couple of repairs, and great to have the garage mention what a super car it is too. If you don't use it lots, it sounds like the perfect car for you, so hope hub has put his car brochures away!

Thank you Bean love for the comforting words. I know certain animals are drawn to certain people the same as we are for each other I suppose but nothing is going to make Timmy friendly I just know it. I think he will be happier going back to Helen as he obviously is a very unhappy hoggy here.
Thank you too Piggles hunni, I really hope the little girl is going to be friendly. I think I will know as soon as I hold her. Roll on Thursday.

All digits crossed for you and her, Jo Another gorgeous day with temps in the 50s. Our two feet of snow is down to about 4 inches, except where it was plowed into piles. I can understand how spring fever gets started. My desire to start planting seeds and putting them out in the little greenhouse is strong. Then it snows again, and I'm glad I didn't give in Next month will be soon enough to start plants from seeds, and if we're lucky, we might get some hardy plants set out in the garden in May Usually the last chance of a killing frost is the very end of May, but I think the temps have been getting warmer.

Definitely good luck with the new hedgie girl I've been following the news reports of the murder on the Westminster Bridge. One confirmed dead, a police officer. Lots of injured, with the possibility of more casualties. I really hope BBC is making more of this than it is, but I doubt it. They don't seem to sensationalize the news. My heart goes out to the victims and their loved ones Speaking of BBC, watching the news yesterday, one of their analysts was talking about the presidents claim that Obama had his NYC tower bugged. I loved that the analyst said it's an issue on the president cares about, and no one else. We have a lot of that news going on in the US, on both sides. Checking Snopes, the news verification site, most of it is mixed true/false, or mostly false. Even our most reliable media isn't reporting the whole story, just the parts important to them. In other news, apparently the pres and his cronies are starting to realize their proposed changes to health care in the US are not going to be accepted by many of their own, much less by democrats. I really wish politicians would stop trying to one up each other, and start thinking about what would benefit the people! Wind is howling outside. It brought in a cold front overnight. It was one of those nights that starts out hot and ends up cold. At least I remembered to turn on the heat, after having it off during the warm day, yesterday. I tend to forget, and Hubby gets up at the crack of dawn, and it's really cold in the house

It looks like one man drove his car down a footpath on Westminster Bridge, killing two people and injuring many others, and then got out and stabbed a policeman before he was shot dead.
The police have made some arrests this morning, with the expected links to terrorism. They're trying to get things back to normal as much as they can - the message being that what these sorts of people are doing is wrong, but it's not going to get us all fighting among ourselves and undermine the values we have in this country (not all will agree with that of course, but that's their plan).
Very sad indeed that people are motivated to do these things, and that there's little you can do to stop someone acting alone, as their plots are unlikely to be picked up by intelligence. There are quite a few people in critical condition in hospital, so let's hope they pull through. So sad for the families of the people who have lost their lives.
