Loads of the wood is small enough to go in the fire pit, and we do have a dustbin-sized garden incinerator too. But we have more than 5 builders' bags worth of branches and twigs, so it'd take a while! I was thinking I'd keep a bit back for cooking on one evening, but would just like most of it out of my way!
I think I'm just mainly worried because he's so bold and I feel like I have to keep my back door closed all the time in case he gets in (which would be a pain in summer). I don't think the pigs would last long...

Nope, I totally agree! At least the pigs would let you know he was there! Thinking of heading up to Hanover next week. It's on the Connecticut River, is a beautiful college town in it's own right, and there are many vistas for taking foliage pictures along the river between Hanover, NH and Norwich, VT. The foliage should be peaking there, so if we get up there, it should be a nice, scenic ride I would have posted a picture, but they were all of Dartmouth College?

That sounds like a lovely idea. How far is it from you? Will you go out for lunch or take a pack up and make a day of it?

It might take an hour to get there, if we stop along the way. I've been there many times, and it is a beautiful area. I'll try to get some good pictures. Dartmouth College is a beautiful college, too, with lots of beautiful buildings, and the town of Hanover is also quite picturesque. Hubby has been getting the raised planters set up to take all the outdoor plants. Temps will get down into the 30s overnight Saturday into Sunday, and into the 40s the other nights, so it's just good to give them a bit of cover overnight, so they last longer before we either lose them to a frost, or manage to get set up inside, so we can bring them in for the winter. Since he put the PVC pipe over the raised planters, it's been so much easier to get them all into a planter, cover them with plastic, and be done with it That's giving us a much longer outdoor growing season, as we can turn each raised planter into a mini green house. At some point, we'll bring all the flowering plants indoors, and Vic will be able to clean out the raised planters, get them sanitized with vinegar, and ready for the winter. I want him to put the black plastic in the raised planters this year, so come Spring, the sun on the black plastic will warm the soil faster.

Is that leaf peeping trip on the cards for this week?
Over the last few weeks, I seem to have spent more time in built up areas and less in parks and open spaces. I must make sure I take a bit of time to appreciate the show that's going on in the trees at the moment!

We went on Tuesday. Started out, saw the exit to the Lakes Region, decided to go there instead. Waste of time, mostly, as the foliage hadn't changed there, and all the summer restaurants and things were closed for the season. We did have a really nice ride, though, and got home in time for him to start a project, and for me to do some cooking. All around fun day We may go out again, once the foliage turns completely down here. We know some grew places to get photos, and don't have to drive to Hanover to get them. We both agreed it would have been a much better leaf peeping trip, had we gone to Hanover, but we still had fun. We hear about a lot of places in the state, from the news. Sometimes it's something that happened there. Sometimes it's an ad for a business. We got to see a lot of the places and businesses we'd seen/heard about on TV, so that in itself was fun

Sounds like a fun day, and great you squeezed other stuff in too! Retirement certainly gives you both a lot more time together to do stuff like this.

Saw the updated Housing Thread. I'll have to get a decent picture of my current cage, to add to it. I had a great stroll down memory lane, and also noted some pictures I remember, that aren't there anymore. The joy of Photobucket going crazy on us all.
Halloween is now in the 10-day weather forecast. Soon our voting day, Nov. 6, will be in the 10-day weather forecast. I've already voted, as I got an absentee ballot, filled it out and returned it last week. I just hope it's a good day, weather-wise, so lots of people get out to vote.
Bean, I saw on BBC America that there's a referendum or something to cancel the Brexit vote, and stay in the EU? Is that really a think, or just a lot of talk that can't amount to anything because the process is too far underway?

Oh we've never stopped talking about having a second referendum! There were some pretty massive demonstrations up and down the country this weekend, so with it currently looking like we might not even have a deal on the table when we leave, that's why it's been in the news with catchy headlines. Lots of people think it shows how little people knew when we were asked to vote and that there's an even more legitimate basis for checking the people are still on the same page now people can see what will actually happen (and not imagine the NHS will sudden'y get billions or all the 'foreigners' will leave). But Theresa May has ruled it out completely and is convinced she'll get a deal that will be backed. We shall see... Oh please do add some updated pictures to the housing thread, 3piggles! I found a few old photos when I was looking for pictures of my old cage which was lovely. Like this one of Fred getting an ear clean from Tefal - it melts my heart! I was wondering if you had any cage photos to add to the housing thread in Cavy Care too shades - it's been a while since I've seen it but I remember your cage being pretty big and cat proof!

I've recently started fleecing Pigloo City for the winter, so will get some with and without the fleece down. They love having the fleece down. They get their own little cave to play in, and they do play Definitely upload pics to the housing thread, Shades and Baz. The more ideas people get, the better the chance they'll build a decent cage. One thing I noticed over the years is that a lot of people see store bought cages, and think that's all that works. Not so! I especially love the ones built with love and care, so the piggies had a great habitat Had some wild weather come through last night. First a big flash of lightening, then a roll of thunder that lasted at least a minute, and rattled the whole house. The pans on the hanging rack were rattling! Then we got hail, luckily not too big so no damage, and more rounds of lightening and that weird thunder, interspersed with torrential rain. Lasted about 7 minutes, then moved out. We had several other rounds of severe weather, but we weren't in the center of it, so it wasn't as bad. Generally 7 minutes worth here, 10 minutes worth there, etc. Finally moved out so we could take our showers

Crikey, pan-ratting thunder sounds dramatic! And the hail too.
We've still got really high winds that are whistling down the chimney, but no storms. We've actually had some quite pleasant sunshine most days this week. Just don't go out in a hat!
Hope the girls carry on enjoying the fleece. Mine really love having bits pegged up for them to jump on and snooze under. Whenever you move them it's like watching kids in a den they've built!

New England is an incredibly beautiful place, with lots of mountains, and even more trees. We also have an incredible amount of ground water, so pretty much everywhere you go there's a lake, pond, river, stream, marsh, swamp or some type of water. The northeastern US has something like 90% of the ground water in the whole US. Not great for finding lots of building lots, but it would take a drought of biblical proportions for us to really go dry, at least in the rural areas. Cities are on their own! We really had a great drive, took a lot of wrong turns, and just enjoyed the ride It's so great to be able to pick the weekday, not a weekend day, with the best weather and the least people, and just enjoy ourselves I heard from another friend who lives in this area, and she gave me the name and location of her and her husband's doctor. Unfortunately, it's back at the same place where I had all the trouble with doctors, so I'm trying to overcome my reluctance to ever go back to that place, and give her a call. Probably not taking new patients, either, but it's worth a try.

That'll certainly be a test, to go back to the same place, but even if you just call up and enquire about whether they're taking new patients (rather than planning to make an appointment right away) it's a good start. Good luck with whatever you do, even if it's just trying to think about it in a slightly postive way.
I took the long way home when I was running a couple of errands yesterday, so I could walk through the park. I've missed most of the leaf turning but still saw some pretty sights. Nothing to match New England, mind you!

Aw, glad you got to see some nice scenery, and some turning leaves It is beautiful here, and actually all along the Canadian border where it gets cold and snowy in the winter. That's what drives the die-off of the leaves. I was looking at some gorgeous pictures of the foliage colors in Michigan. Wow! They really know how to put on a display We're having a Nor'easter today, though the winds haven't been all that bad. The foliage should be approaching the coast, though, and they are getting up to 35 mph winds, plus the off and on torrential rains, all the leaves should be off the trees. That's the only problem with our foliage season. If we get a bright, sunny one, it's gorgeous. If we get storms, wind and rains, the leaves fall off so easily, it's a let down.

I would have loved to have gotten some pics of the lakes region, but every decent place to take a photo is built up around the lakes, so unless we wanted to pay to park just to take pictures, we'd have to drive into someone's yard. Not done around here, lol There were some gorgeous scenes along that trip, too.

No??? LOL People are so protective of their property these days May had out to do a bit of food shopping this afternoon, as hubby as finished his yard work, well before it rained. Jo, I don't know if you have Grands biscuits in the UK, but I'm sure you have something similar. www.bing.com/images/search?q=grands+biscuits&qpvt=grands+biscuits&FORM=IGREAnyway, if you pull apart the biscuits, as you would to cook them, and instead flatten them, you can cook them in a bit of oil, maybe 1/2 inch, on the stovetop, and they become donuts. Excellent with powdered sugar, cinnamon and sugar, any glaze you like. You don't need a donut recipe and donut pan to make donuts Once I finish the apple cider donut batter, I'm going to make some with the Grands. I used to do that a long time ago, and got out of it, but for practically instant donuts, it's a great option
