The Pigloo City Urban Redevelopment committee decided to rebuild Waffle Block Hollow, but build more sturdy housing, rather than rebuilding the type of detached housing destroyed by the storm. All the house have openings so residents can easily move between houses. Two smaller houses and one large house now grace the Hollow, and residents are quite happy with the new set up! Smaller houses: The new Hollow set up: In other news, since the current hay holder didn't seem to be working, it was replaced with a small, temporary hay box. Not the best option, but it should serve the purpose until a better options if found. Momo enjoying some hay: Momo and Morty, with room for Mia: All set until the next meeting of the Pigloo City Urban Redevelopment committee.

The council tax/snuggle payments, depend on the amount of damage!!! It's like a penalty assessment!!!

I've used many different things for hay holders over the years, and recently revisited an couple of store bought plastic hay holders I haven't used in years. I'd forgotten why I didn't use them, if the large suet feeders worked. Answer it, the pigs can knock them off the grids too easily, which they promptly did! The ones I retried were this idea, only plastic and no salt lick holder: www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=6067+10382+19835&pcatid=19835Every year I buy flower and veggie plants in 4" plastic pots, so always seem to have an endless supply of round or square ones on hand. Since they have holes in the bottom, air could circulate, and if anyone peed in the hay, it could leak out the bottom. I clipped the pots to the grids with wooden clothes pins. One pin wasn't enough. Two pins have worked perfectly for four days. I'm using three holders for three pigs. There is a little hay left when i refill the next day. The new holders have gotten rave reviews from the Pigloo City 3! I did think the new holders would be too uncomfortable for anyone to sit in. As usual, I was wrong, though there's no long term sitting in the hay, or they sink into the plant pot! I'm going to keep these for a while, see how well they last. No chewing of the pots, which surprised me, so they may last for a while.

Just a quick update on the plastic plant pot hay holders. They seem to be sturdy enough for Momo just jump up and lie in the hay, but because they aren't flat on top, she doesn't stay long. She seems to do it more to lay claim to the hay, Queen of the Hay, than to live in the hay.
There is some waste, as the pigs pull a lot of hay out and litter the floor with it, but the amount of waste is so minimal compared to other options, I'm quite happy to settle for that loss.
The wooden spring clothes pins seem to be doing a great job of holding the plant pots in place. I raised them up a level on the grids, so I could sweep underneath. They still hold the plant pots well enough to hold Momo when she's lying on the hay.
So far, I'm quite pleased with this set up. Having three separate pots, one for each pig, also seems to be working pretty well.

Had fun shopping the $1 bins at Target, today, and came home with yet another hay holder to try. Even got one to match the bedding!!! It's just a plastic bin with two handles. One handle is clipped to the back grid to keep the bin in place. The other handle is overhead in the hay, to keep the pigs from jumping into the hay. Here are some pictures of the Pigloo City 3 demonstrating how to eat from the new hay holder. Momo and Morty check out the hay: Mr. Morty Pigg: Momo demonstrates her technique! Lovely pics I have to stop myself buying new things for the pigs to try - There would be no room left in the house for me if I did!

I am like that weesilvie but whatever I buy them toywise is generally ignored. Do your little ones have favourites?

I usually make a list and stick to it, and I rarely go to Target. I needed something on sale there, so just looked at the $1 bins for the heck of it. Got some great things. If it doesn't work, I'm out $1. This one also matched the bedding!
Jo, their favorite is still the litter box full of hay. I may go back to that when I move the cage to the family room, as I will have to build a completely new cage for that room. It used a lot of hay, though, which is why I stopped using it, and why they love it so much.

As well as the money spent on all the exciting things for Silvie and the pigs, it's the room all that stuff takes up in the house! For the pigs I tend to just stick the their pogloos and their hay racks, with just a few interesting alternatives for a change every now and then. I have several comfy beds for Silvie and the only one she sits in at the moment is a basket my sister gave me!

With the basement family room finally painted, lighted and carpeted, the Pigloo City Urban Redevelopment committee is moving Pigloo City to the basement family room. Instead of being stuck in a closet in the office, Pigloo City will be part of the TV room, and both offices. Ta da! The new, though temporary, Pigloo City! The whole temp cage: Kitchen on one end, the rest if sleeping and play area: The kitchen area, big enough for all three at one time: The living area: The living area. I added a cuddle cup, as Momo seems stressed. Eventually I plan to get or build a wooden hutch with storage underneath, that will keep everything neatly put away. That will open more space for what little office/sewing room I need. What's nice is I can see and talk to the pigs from the TV area. TV area around to the cage area: The door is beside the cage kitchen area. Hub's office will also move down to the family room, in the area behind the couch. The current TV is from a bedroom, as the TV that goes there was put in the attic master bedroom while the family room was unfinished. Eventually the big TV, real furniture, etc. will be in place for a nice, finished great room.
