Would just like you all to know that I ordered 12 small vet beds yesterday. As I have 6 piggies, they will have 2 each, one in the bed, one for changing. As I am new to this product, I have only got small ones to go in the little log cabins where they sleep. If I get on well with this, I will definately invest in enough for both cage floors.
I can't wait to get it, I am so excited!!! x

Two of my local pet shops sell it of the roll. The cheapest is £7.00 per foot / 30 cm and its 2.5 ft or 66 cm wide. So it will work out much cheaper for me to buy it that way. I just need to work out how that will fit the dimensions of the hutches/ cage and then off to purchase some. BTW one of the local pet shops (and the cheapest) is Jolleys which I think you have in England too.

I haven't heard of Jolleys - I will see if I can locate one near where I live. Because I spent over £30 I had fee delivery on my vetbed. I used the petmed website. Let me know how you get on when you decide to measure up and/or buy?

I'm just deciding how much of the hutches and cage to cover with it at the minute. I wish I had it already. It has been very cold here the last few nights and for the first time ever the water bottles were frozen when I went out yesterday morning. I was worried so went out and got some covered hot water bottles for the hutches and buried them under the hay in the bed areas last night. I went out this morning to take them out and check on everyone (of course it was a milder night last night) and the covers are stuck solid with hay! If I had the vet bed I could have put the bottles nicely between a sheet and the vet bed.

Yes, I know what you mean. I wish I had mine already too. It would be more snuggly for all of our little ones. Especially with Nancy convilessing I worry she isn't warm enough. The last two nights I have wrapped her up in soft towels until the morning. I am changing the towels 2 times a day to keep her clean and dry. so my washer is working overtime! Vetbed would keep her warm and dry. Gosh I can't wait for it to come.
Aaah hot water bottles, how cute, you are a caring piggy mum. I bet they love snuggling on that. Yes the bottles between vetbed and a sheet sounds perfect, what a great idea.

I was worried so went out and got some covered hot water bottles for the hutches and buried them under the hay in the bed areas last night. Newpig, I use a product called SnuggleSafe to keep my pets warm. I even use it in my car when I take my little Chihuahua's out for a ride. And I'm sure you know that Chihuahua's are always cold. After reading that you had to put the hot water bottles out in the hutch to keep your piggies warm, I wondered if you have ever heard of SnuggleSafe? I have had mine for at least 8 or 9 years now, so it is well worth the money to buy one or two or three. All you do is pop it in the microwave for about 5 or 6 minutes and slip it inside it's cover, and the thing stays warm for 10 hours! It would really be ideal for use in your hutches, plus it is good to have one on hand anyway should you need extra warmth for a sick pet. Here's the link: www.snugglesafe.co.uk/heatpad.htmSNUGGLESAFE HEATPAD Ref: LC310i needs only minutes in your microwave & the SnuggleSafe 9" disc will provide your cherished companion up to 10 hours of warmth and comfort. The SnuggleSafe heatpad is bite resistant, has no wires for a pet to chew through and is totally non toxic.
IDEAL FOR RABBITS/ GUINEA PIGS KEPT IN HUTCHES INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. ALSO PERFECT FOR PUPPIES/ KITTENS, CONVALESCING, ELDERLY PETS (WITH ARTHRITIS) OR JUST FOR THE WELL BEING OF ANY PET.Especially with Nancy convilessing I worry she isn't warm enough. Donna SnuggleSafe would be fantastic for your Nancy too! Really guys, I love my SnuggleSafe! I only have two of them but I think I am going to order two more. When my kittens had their URI, I was lucky that I had them because my home's heater had broke so I had no heat at all, and the repair guy didn't show up for days! So Snuggle up ladies!

Donna check out VetUk - they have them for £16.99.
Thanks Val. You and Beckee did tell me about them before but I couldn't find any in my local pet shops yesterday so bought the hot water bottles so that they had something. I am going to look into the heat pads for the future and definitely before next winter. Hopefully the worst of our cold spells are over for this year.

Last night driving home form work, I just kept thinking about the vetbed I had ordered. I really couldn't wait until next week. I called one of the local petshops on my way back into town. Yes - they had vetbed in stock! So I picked 4 vetbeds up and cleaned my little ones beds out. My little ones were so cute walking on it for the first time, so gentle. Charlotte was scared of it at first, but soon got snuggled in. When I picked Nancy up to feed her early hours this morning she was so warm and toasty. Her little feet were lovely and warm. It was so cute. I keep feeling the vetbed, but I swear there is no moisture anywhere! It is fantastic! I am delighted.

I know what you mean Donna! I did the same thing as you, when I first got my vet bed I would scoot my piggies over so I could feel the top of the vet bed...and it was always dry! The stuff is amazing! It is so much better than regular fleece, in fact there is no comparison really. I'm glad you love it too! Aw sweet Charlotte was a little scared huh? I bet once she got snuggled in though it felt like heaven! Glad to hear that Nancy is loving it too and is nice and dry! I would love to see pigtures of your happy dry lot!

Donna - did you put newspaper under yours, sheets over it etc.
I just picked up 3 lengths of it to try out. Gives me enough for the bed area of each hutch and the whole floor of Rodge and Podge's cage. If they take to it then I'll go and get the same amount again to put in while one lot is being washed. It has changed from what I remember it being years ago. I remember the one I had for the cats being quite wiry (best description I can think of)- that was the white one. This is the grey one and it is really fluffy and cosy. My son thought it was great!

Yes I put a layer of newspaper then kitchen towel paper, then another layer of newspaper underneath the vetbed. I haven't put anything on the top though. You may need to put something on top if you put hay near it as it does cling a bit, but isn't a problem to me as the vetbed is only where their little log cabins are and the hay is at the other end of the cage. I am very proud of the vetbed and I keep checking it and yes it is still dry - then I keep scooping the little beans off so it is like new each time. Good luck with your new vetbed, I am sure it will be fine.

I got enough to cover the girls bed and the boys bed (both of which are about 16x16") and all of Rodge and Podge's cage and still had a little strip left over. All for £21 so very pleased. The girls were really uncertain when I put it in and they wouldn't go into bed. After a few minutes they went in and then few minutes later all I could hear was excited wheeking. I also sorted out some fleecy cat blankets that I no longer need for the cats and put those in the rest of the boys hutch so no more wood shavings. Will just see how they get on with it now. The rest of the living space in the girls hutch has a plastic coating on it that is easily cleaned so I don't cover it with bedding. If it goes well I'll pick up some more in a few days so that can swop it over when the hutches need cleaned out.
How often do you have to launder the vet bed?

Guess what? Checked the vetbed again at lunchtime - it is still dry!!! Can you believe it? Donna you are so funny! I just enjoy watching you as I have never seen anyone more thrilled to see their vet bed is still DRY! LOL How often do you have to launder the vet bed? I am glad your piggies are loving it. I only launder mine once a week, but I only have two piggies so you may need to do it twice a week? I do turn mine so that the pigloos are not always sitting in the same spot and that helps too. *edit* I also use carefresh in my cage and underneath the vet bed and that also absorbs moisture. I think Anna uses 100% cotton terry cloth towels under hers. It must be 100% cotton to absorb. And NEVER use fabric softner or your towels will not absorb but will repel moisture instead.

I love the vet bed. Went out today and got the same amount again so can switch it over on laundry day! I just swept the poos of it from the hutches this morning. I took Rodge and Podge out of their cage and hoovered up the hay and poop of their vet bed. Its so dry as well. I am glad I went for the grey. I had some cream sheet wrapped round it on one end of Rodge and Podge's hutch and it certainly doesn't look too clean now!

I am glad that the vet bed is working out so well for you. I really wish I had my entire cage covered with it like Anna's. It just is the very best thing to use. It's the shipping cost to the USA that just kill me! It's more that the vet bed cost. I wonder why we don't have that here in the USA? Seems like we would but I can't find it.
