I got enough to cover the girls bed and the boys bed (both of which are about 16x16") and all of Rodge and Podge's cage and still had a little strip left over. All for £21 so very pleased. The girls were really uncertain when I put it in and they wouldn't go into bed. After a few minutes they went in and then few minutes later all I could hear was excited wheeking. I also sorted out some fleecy cat blankets that I no longer need for the cats and put those in the rest of the boys hutch so no more wood shavings. Will just see how they get on with it now. The rest of the living space in the girls hutch has a plastic coating on it that is easily cleaned so I don't cover it with bedding. If it goes well I'll pick up some more in a few days so that can swop it over when the hutches need cleaned out. How often do you have to launder the vet bed? Hey Newpig, Seems like you are getting on real good with your vetbed too! I am glad your little ones have this luxury like mine do now! I have 3 piggies in each herd, so I change mine 2 times a week. If you have 2 piggies, you may be okay with once? Depends on how much they pee!!! <chuckle> I can't wait for my coloured vetbed to come this week! White does the job very well, but I think grey and mink will be magic!!!

At the minute its 3 herds, one of 3 girls and 2 of 2 boys. Its ready for changing now. Is it actually wet on the top now? or is it just dirty from poops and hair and hay? I brush up the poops and hair and hay about 3 times a day. Then I change twice a week. have you enough papers or towels underneath the vet bed? maybe your piggies just pee alot!

Its just dirty from the running round and mushing poop into it and getting hay in it. Its a real blustery day today so going to change it over now and hopefully get it dried. Haven't cut the new roll yet so best go do that first. My lot do pee and especially poop a lot! They also poop everywhere (well the boys don't do it in their bed much).

Val, it does seem odd that you can't get the vet bed in US, I wonder is it called something else. I wonder who makes it and could you contact them direct for more info.

Val, it does seem odd that you can't get the vet bed in US, I wonder is it called something else. I wonder who makes it and could you contact them direct for more info. Ebay.com has vetbed - maybe there is some on there in the US. Yes guys, I did go to the Ebay site and did find Vet Bed, but it is the same old story....outragous shipping! All the vendors are in the UK, even on Ebay! Vet bed is made in the UK so therefore to get the ORIGINAL Vet Bed I must pay a huge shipping fee, which I think I am finally caving into doing. I would gladly even pay a higher price for Vet Bed here if I could find it anywhere. There are imitations here, in fact I bought some the other day while I was at Ikea, but nothing has the vet bed green backing on it, which I think just might be the secret to holding the moisture away from the piggy. The stuff I found at Ikea is really plush and nice, but although it may be comfy, I'm not sure yet as to how good it is. I just changed out my C&C cage yesterday and put it in on top of a layer of 100% cotton towels which I put on top of a layer of Carefresh. We'll see if it is any good? Oh and it is 95% polyester and 5% acrylic. Can you check your Vet Bed label and see if it the same? My label on my Vet Bed has come off, but I think it was also 95% poly too which allows the moisture to weep through it. It is a nice plush gray color, so it is pretty! Oh and then I put a baby blanket on top of it so I could easily sweep up the vast number of beans! lol I had to buy two pieces so that it would cove my entire cage. They only cost $8.99 each which I thought was great! Here you can see the new gray stuff and right next to it is the REAL Vet Bed which I use under my pigloos. Then here is a closer look at the gray stuff. Then here it is finished off with a baby blanket on top. Sorry for such bad pictures! Had I known I would be posting pictures of the bedding I would have taken better pictures to show you. But you get the idea, Right?

Val what sort of plastic boxes are those that you have under your hay racks - they look a good idea for catching the hay. It never bothered me before but now that am using the vet bed the hay gets stuck in it all the time.
I have the grey vet bed as well. My kids thought it was great and wanted to sleep on it themselves.
I have no label on mine as it was cut off the roll so can't check to see what made off.
I was going to say I would get you some and send it if its a nightmare to get but if its the shipping costs that are the issue I guess that doesn't help much?

Val - your pictures are great. Let us know how you get on with the new grey bedding. Your cages look great - your piggies are so well looked after - you are a great piggy mummy! I love the long haired piggie, is it hard to keep the long hair in such great condition?
So Val - do you put carefresh first, then towels, then vetbed on top?
Yeah the hay baskets look a great idea as newpig has mentioned. Where are they from? Yes newpig, the hay does stick to the vetbed - it seems like val has got a great way of preventing that with the plastic hay containers. Val please tell us what they are and what size etc.

Val what sort of plastic boxes are those that you have under your hay racks - they look a good idea for catching the hay. it seems like val has got a great way of preventing that with the plastic hay containers. Val please tell us what they are and what size etc. The reddish colored one is a high back Ferret liter pan. I bought it at Pet Co for less than $10.00. It is a nice design because of the high back prevents the hay from falling to the floor...kind of lol...and then the front is low profile so it is easy for the piggies to jump in and out of. I put a little bit of Carefresh in the bottom to catch any wee since the piggies sit there so much snacking on their hay. The other blue pan is a kitten liter pan I bought at the rescue center when I adopted the kittens. It is really small and not good for kittens who grow! I use that one under my water bottles to absorb dripping water and wee so that why my cage stays dry. Again, I put some Carefresh in it and then any old hay on top. Both trays really help to keep my cage clean as it is much easier to dump out a little liter pan every other day or so than to clean the entire cage. lol My "Hay Rack" that I hang over the Ferret liter pan is not a hay rack at all....it really is a brochure holder that I got from my job at Ralph's. lol It really is the best hay rack I ever used. If I had known they were going to terminate me after 25 years, I would have gotten some more! lol Here is what the Ferret liter pan looks like. I do want to buy another one to replace the kitten liter pan. So Val - do you put carefresh first, then towels, then vetbed on top? Yes, that is what I did this time. I thought that by adding the towels in between the Vet Bed and the Carefresh that it might be easier to change out the towels and toss them into the washer. My hope is that it will make the Carefresh last a bit longer too, as it gets rather expensive and since my income has been stopped lol, I am trying to find new ways without compromising my precious piggies. I love the long haired piggie, is it hard to keep the long hair in such great condition? No, it is not hard, just takes more time to care for her with weekly grooming to keep her looking so pretty. With a long hair piggy it really is more of a health issue rather than looking pretty. I need to do the extra grooming to prevent mats which can become very painful pulling on their tender skin. Also, GeeGee gets weekly butt dips in the sink to keep her bottom clean. She's worth any extra effort it takes! :-*I love her so much! Hey, you wanna know what my ramp is? Of course you do!...it is a very hard resin plastic that is used at the bottom of rain gutters down spouts to guide the rain water away from the house. LOL...it is really cool too because it has been stamped to resemble stepping stones and is textured so the piggies can easily run up and down on it without slipping. Good idea huh?

I sent them two emails to inquire about getting some Vet Bed and got a reply back! Thank you for your enquiry, I apologise that this was your 2nd request. LizzieIsn't that great!? I think it is so funny that this Lizzie person sent me her reply as she was currently IN THE UK shipping more Vet Bed back to the USA! Talk about the perfect timing, eh!

Val -- any updates on the vet bed? The more I read about it the more I desperately want to get my hands on some here in the US. I don't have the greatest or a steady income (dang substitute teaching! I want a REAL teaching job...), so knowing a price that won't be extreme because of shipping is nice.
Thanks!

Well I got a reply back from the lady who sells Vet Bed from her shop in Florida. She said that the Vet Bed is $9.99 a square foot plus shipping. I don't know but that still sounds very expensive to me? I am now wondering if there would be any savings at all even if I ordered it directly from the UK Website or even from Ebay?
Newpig, what did you pay a square foot? If I was to order it from this lady, enough to cover my C&C cage, it would cost me somewhere around $125.00 plus shipping!

Off the roll it doesn't come in sq ft. You buy 1ft or 30cm long but I think the width was 2.5ft (but really can't remember now and just threw the piece of paper out that had worked it out on). It was £7.00 per each 1' length. I bought 6 lengths in all.

Wow newpig! That is so much cheaper! If I understand what you are saying....you would get a piece 2.5 feet wide by 1 foot in length? For $7.00? Right? That same piece would cost me $25.00 plus shipping!
Thats just to much! I am thinking I can get it cheaper than that on Ebay!

Hi,
I'm thinking of getting vet bed ...... has anyone , who already uses it got any photo's of what it looks like just before you wash it (eg squished poos and all) ..... I know it looks great when all clean and freshly put in but was wondering how messy it gets?
Thanks
