It just looks dirty. It does come in different colors so if you didn't want white you could get a color that hides the dirt. Pooh's don't stick to it if that is what you're worried about. Hay will though. So I keep my hay rack with a ferret liter box underneath it to catch any loose hay droppings.
It is wonderful stuff! It keeps your piggy from sitting in wet spots as the moisture weeps through it and keeps the top dry. I only wash mine once a week but I shake off all the Pooh's every day outside. Heck when my piggies are shedding I even use my little hand vacuum on it before I toss it into the washer.

Its the hay that's the issue. My outside piggys just have it in their beds. The hay racks are in a dfferent part of the hutch so they don't get hay or food on it. I just brush it everyday and not a mark on it. The girls have a plastic floor in the rest of their hutch and they don't sleep in that part so no bedding there. The rest of the boys hutch has a wooden base so needs protection from pee. I have shavings, then a layer os newspaper and then fleece over it. Its a mess with hay and needs brushed out and shook out everyday.
The indoor piggys have vet bed all over their cage. The hay sticks to it something rotten. I just brush it everyday and if it is particularly bad I take the piggys out and put the vacuum in. Job done. I find I can never 100% get rid of every shred of hay.
