ok well when i first joined wheekers as susie knows, my joy had lice. we got him cured. today i saw he had a black scab on him and when i moved his fur to see, he went crazy. this whole time i think i was in denile that he was fine but i know something is wrong. it is either parasitic or fungal... my mom wants me to take them to a local shelter for adoption but i would be heartbroken! what is a easy cure (whatever amount to money) other symptoms- when i pick him up he kicks and bites (not hard) hates being touched... im so nervous help me!!!
my old thread i was talking about is in guinea pig health called Topic: help me!! my guinea pig is losing fur and skin.

I would say he has mite..most likely selnic....Ivomec or something similar repeated one week apart should fix him up a treat....best to consult your vet or aplication and dosage..
Cheers Fee...

I agree, it does sound like mites. Sometimes they scratch so much that they can bleed and then it turns into a scab.
My vet gives me oral ivomec for my piggies, as it saves them from having injections. You could always ask your vet Amanda about it, you just have to be very careful with the dose.
I'm sure your little boy will be back to being very cuddly soon. He's just in a lot of pain and when you touch him. A good idea is to stroke him on the neck area and not their back, as thats the area thats most effected.

It might help too if you sit down and talk to mom about how important your piggies are to you. You might want to write down what you are learning and how this is making you more responsible in all areas of your life. Make sure you are finishing your homework and household jobs too. Best wishes for you and the piggies.

I responded to this question more than two weeks ago when you asked about it in a totally different thread. My thoughts are the same as they were then: mites.

No problem ... you had other things on your mind. Sending healing vibes his way. Sometimes it can take a few treatments seven days apart to clear up mites. If it doesn't clear up, then you'll need to seek vet advice to see if it might be fungal. Good luck!
