Awww newpig, that is so great! I think you are doing the right thing. I would be very worried about taking on a rabbit with a history of abssesses as I would worry that I wouldn't be able to spot them in time.
How sad that Brin was constantly trying to get in with the guinea pigs. Awwwwww.
I love the name! In fact, I was thinking that if I ever got a rabbit I would call her that! I am thinking about getting a fourth piggy because Sweetie is so much more active than my other two and I think that a piggy who was a year old would be really good for her.
I am thinking about getting a pair of house rabbits in the autumn. I am going away a lot in July for work and don't want to get them before then. From your research, which breeds make the best house rabbits? I was thinking about lionheads.

I'm still worried about taking on Thumper but am just going to wait and see how things develop with her. If she can get through this with no more injury then I really hope she will be with me soon and I will just have to be very thorough in keeping a watch for the abscesses. Jackie put me in touch with a lovely rabbit guru and at her forum they have been giving me lots of help and advice. I feel more encouraged talking to them and one guy in particular has a lop that went through exactly the same thing. House rabbits - well Brin spends lots of time indoors but is essentially supposed to be an outdoor bun! The lady Jackie put me in touch with is a member of this organisation and they seem to have very good advice. There is quite a bit about house rabbits and the various breeds: www.houserabbit.co.uk/index.phpWhen I was looking into this I came to the decision to go for a lop or a lionhead as they are more docile. I get the impression that the lops are the calmest but with Brin and his odd tooth and Thumper and her abscesses they show the health issues faced by lops. They were so inbred to get the flatter head and downward ears that its left them prone to dental problems and abscesses. In saying that I am already so in love with mine that I wouldn't change them for anything. I can't believe how much Brin (and even little Clover) are happy to be picked up, handled and groomed. Brin even comes to me when I put my hand out and call him.

Your story about Brin being lonely and then the arrival of new Clover is very heart warming newpig! I am so glad for Brin! If only he could talk, I'm sure he would tell you "thank you mummy"! I do love the name "Clover" and I too can connect the dots as to why this was your choice for her name. I'm sure human Clover will be honored and cry buckets of tears of joy! I'm wondering why you have not posted any Clover pictures? Are you teasing us now? I hope that Thumper recovers soon. Did your vet have any advice about whether you should or should not take on Thumper? I know you can't help but think she needs you too, so I'm sure your heart is torn.

Come on - you knew I wouldn't be far away with that camera: Aww Lesa she is beautiful and I'm so very honoured and chuffed that you called her Clover ;D I'm sure my guinea pig Clover at rainbow bridge would be happy too. *reaches for hankie to wipe away happy tears* There's also a bunny called Clover in the film Watership Down. I've always loved the name Clover, I remember often looking for a four leaf clover as a child, anyway I must'nt go down memory lane lol I'm so pleased Brin and Clover are happy together, Brin must have been so pleased to meet her. She's a very feminine rabbit isn't she with her lovely fluffy hair. Welcome little Clover you'll have a fantastic home with your new mum.

I'm so glad you liked her name. When I suggested Clover as her name Hubby also said he thought there was a Clover in Watership Down. Clover also grows like crazy in Ireland and my garden is full of it so I have very happy pigs and buns.

I just made a really long post all about the progress between Brin and Clover and just lost it!
So try again.
Melza, I am hoping this scenario makes everyone happy. Brin gets to settle in his new home, as does Clover and they have each other for company. Thumper gets peace to fight these horrible abscesses and then hopefully when she is all better come home to an old friend and a new friend.
Ros (rabbit guru) suggested Clover may be a lionhead. I didn't even know could get lop lions so had a look on internet this morning and think she is right. I won't know for certain until Clover has moulted about 5/6 months old. If she is her fur won't be just as long on her body but will still have the long mane and she will probably grow to same size as Thumper who is a dwarf lop.
Clover did have the soft poops that buns eat stuck to her bottom this morning as her hair is so long so I cleaned her up and think she will be having a haircut as not good for her health and could encourage fly strike. Took some more photos today so will post later.

yea, all the best with the bonding.
when/if thumper comes back, you will need to rebond them, especially since Clover will be in the picture. Thumper will not remember being with Brin, thats just how their mind works, she can not see him, she can not smell him, he is gone.
i presume you will get both girls fixed? that will help the bonding. there are plenty of websites you can visit that explain bonding, and what to look for, and what is fighting and what isnt.
i thought Clover was a lion head, i have a fuzzy lop *who didnt lop* and she did not have the head fuzz of Clover, so i would say you do have lion head.
im not sure what the coat type of lion heads are, i know fuzzys have thick guard hairs which *HAHA* prefer tangling... but Shrews *my fuzzy* doesnt know this and continues to tangle her hair on a daily basis, so a comb is a must.

This was one of the links that I found from the rabbit group and it seems quite helpful and Jackie and Ros have both given me links to really good sites on bunny language: www.ontariorabbits.org/diet/behavinfo2.2.htmlI think I will get the girls spayed Melza. Ros said it helps prevent a lot of cancers. I just need Thumper to be back to full health before can think about that for her and Clover is too little yet. Brin and Clover were all cuddled up in the living room last night. They both got a brush and Clover had a little hair trim around her bum and under her chin. Very difficult. A couple of pictures from yesterday. Clover was actually lying on her side but sat up when I tried to take the pictures: Brin in one of his favourite spots - underneath the fish tank and beside Rodge and Podge

What gorgeous rabbits, they look in such prime condition! I have to admit I'm feeling a bit envious! (yet mum says 4 piggies is enough, well I managed to persuade her to get some after she said that I couldn't have any!)

she is a fluffball isn't she!
Melza I read in a few places that best to spay between 4-6 months. Is that what you would say? Thumper isn't spayed either and she is 10 months but was told would still be ok to get her done. Clover is only 2 months now.
