They probably missed each other then, as I got Hirwen in July, although I think she had been at the rescue for months before that.
Hirwen sends a wheek 'hello' just in case!

Hello Hirwen - mine are definitely now finding their wheeks and send you some too!
I have now read all about lice and mites. Perhaps what the vet meant was that a stressful situation can make a piggy with lice feel worse, as it seems that can happen.
I love rescue animals - you take them on with whatever comes with them, lice and all!, for better or worse and all that - but the good stuff always outweighs the bad!

They are gorgeous. And their coats look really lovely despite the lice. It is all psychological, lice is species specific so you will not get their lice! Advantage is the most used treatment for lice, or Revolution is a "newer" one that works very well also. I hope they come clean soon. Seeing as you are in the UK I'd highly recommend getting some gorgeous guineas products, I order them all the way from Canada and am in Love! She evens makes a lice shampoo www.gorgeousguineas.com

Advantage is the most used treatment for lice, or Revolution is a "newer" one that works very well also. I use Revolution on my piggies. My vet highly recommends it. I began using it when my G-Girls came down with ear mites and now I use it to control fleas as well since my piggies do go out to the grass and my cats bring fleas back to the garden. It is easy to use since it is a spot-on treatment so I am able to give it myself at home. Revolution will also take treat and protect from several parasites: - Ear Mites
- Sarcoptes Mange Mites
- Heartworms
- Intestinal worms such as Roundworms and Hookworms
- Fleas and their eggs
- Ticks
- Lice

I got a tiny free sample of something from Gorgeous Guineas along with the pigs from Thistle Cavies. They got a dose of Ivermectin from the vets and go back for another one next week. I will mebbes try bathing them after all that.
They're still quite nervous when they're anywhere other than in their cage so I think I'd like them to be a bit more settled before I go about dunking them! Unless they really need it, of course.
They are already scratching a lot less, thankfully, so hopefully we caught it early and they'll recover very soon. Thanks!

Yes when treating don't bathe until at least a few days (I would say a week) after their last treatment of anything. If you are going to try Revolution, you have to wait at least 7 days between their last dose of ivermectin and first dose of Revolution or there can be complications.
ETA: I also have used revolution and like that you don't have to do it so frequently but as far as results they both are equal in my opinion.
Ivermectin will also kill lice. I'm sure they are doing this, but you need to do at least 3 treatments 7-10 days apart for ivermectin. Any less and you will likely see a reoccurance, if it's a stubborn case, more treatments may be required as well.

Wooly and Bingo are gorgeous piggies, it's great that they have found such a lovely home with you.

Just catching up. Like the new names and they do look fantastic in the new pictures.
I can't recommend Gorgeous Guineas products enough and the owner, Chrissie is so helpful. You can also sign up for their newsletter which does have some really good piggy articles. They do have a lice shampoo and I keep some of the coconeem melt and lavender and myrrh lotion in the house for skin treatments.

Thanks all - I think they're pretty smashing-looking too! I really like the look of the stuff that Gorgeous Guineas do! When I do get round to bathing them etc, it will definitely be with some of their products. I would like to get a moisturiser of some kind for them as Bingo has very slightly dry skin on the back of her ears. What do you recommend? Thanks Becksters - I will ask the vet about a third dose of the Ivermectin.

I love the latest pigtures. They seem to be settling in fabulously. Nothing helps that like love and lettuce, lol.
Definitely get the newsletter from Gorgeous Guineas. I keep them in a file, as they are so informative.

The vet suggested vaseline, but I'm sure that lotion will be much nicer for all concerned! I will see how they go with the lice and put a wee order in to Gorgeous Guineas next payday.

Just email Chrissie at Gorgeous Guineas. Tell her the history (or what you can) of your pigs, their age, gender, hair type (long/short) and any skin issues (like lice currently). She will be able to recommend the best for them.
After their ivermectin is done you may want to use the "lice n easy" shampoo for awhile to help it along but they have lots of good ones. She recommended for my adult short haired girls the Lemon Tea Tree & Lavander Conditioning Shampoo. I haven't ordered it yet but am going to once I get the money in Pay pal (ugh those transfers take FOREVER).
Mmm hmmm definately do 3 treatments, one to kill living things, one to kill eggs, and one to kill anything left over.

I use GG too. It takes a little while to get here to the US, but I live by her products. They are great. She also sells sample sizes too. I'm glad the new gilrs are doing great for you. They are very pretty!

It only took 6 business days to recieve my perfect paws ointment order. And I live on the west coast of Canada so it has to cross the Atlantic and then come all the way across the country. I was very impressed!
I wonder if your customs is more strict with everything though?

Looking forward to trying GG stuff. I caught them popcorning properly for the first time yesterday! I had them out in the living room for a couple of hours while I cleaned the cage and watched some telly, then when I put them back in their nice clean cage, they ran and jumped like crazy! I've got this large sort of cuddle cup type thing, kinda like a very small cat bed really - Woolly jumped into it, and then jumped again while she was standing in it! Bingo just ran about mental.

I just deleted that duplicate post out for you.
Popcorns are the best - they are obviously happy girls.
