Thanks Newpig - not sure what happened there. I'm not the brightest sometimes... I think they popcorn cos they just love a nice clean fresh cage. And I also think they really don't like being out of it! At the moment for floor time they have a 3x2 C&C 'fence' on a picnic blanket. I put a couple of familiar things in with them including something they can hide in - but that's the thing, that's all they do, just hide! Is this a temporary thing until they get their confidence up (I've only had them a couple of weeks still) or do I need to do a bit more persuading for them to run about a bit? If so, what can I do? I'd make the fence bigger if I thought they'd use the space!

Tess hides a lot. Ever since we got her. And she is here 3 months now. She will come out after I sit and talk to her really softly for awhile, but it takes a lot of coaxing. However if she is out for floor time, she hides less, maybe because in the cage it is so much easier to hide. They have a whole room for floor time, so they have to cross the empty space to get from pt a to pt b. I can sit on the floor with her and she comes right up to me sniffs a bit and then goes on her merry way.
Extreme and Criss on the other hand, don't hide. They are much bigger show offs. lol When I enter the room they come out and start showing me all their tricks. I am thinking it is because we have had them since birth, which was August 12TH. They should certainly be used to us, now Tess came from a petshop so who knows what she was used to, poor girl. No more pet shop piggies for me. But I still feel bad for those poor piggies who do need a home just as much as the rescues. Not their fault they came from a breeder.

They really frightened me this evening - when I was cleaning out the cage, the white(ish...) towels from underneath showed they'd been peeing pink. All sorts of nasty thoughts crossed my mind. Then I remembered - today is the first day I've fed them beetroot!

I was perhaps a little forward when I let Wendi at Thistle Cavies know that one of my New Year's resolutions was to consider rescuing another couple of piggies from her! I got an email yesterday to say she has a 5 month old grey agouti and white girl and a 9 month old tan and black neutered boy who she thinks would be perfect for me! I would love to be able to take these piggies if I can, but am slightly concerned about integration issues with Woolly and Bingo who will be 2 years old in the next few months - I would ideally like the four to live together. I know I'd need to quarantine for a few weeks first anyway. Any thoughts or advice from you guys on whether this is really a good idea? I hope it is, I'm quite excited at the thought already.

As you know my 4 girls live together and do so very happily. Fizz was the latest introduction to the girls and adding her to the trio was wonderful as they actually get on better as a quartet than a trio.
I think it sounds like a marvellous idea and I love the grey agouti's.
I can see 2 new piggy arrivals before long.
In seriousness the 2 newbies are still quite a big younger so should be ok and there isn't really any way of knowing for sure until you try.

Wendi at Thistle Cavies has now sent me pictures of my two new piggies (OK, so we all knew I'd fall for them!) and they are totally stunning. I won't post her pics here but will wait until I have my own. She has agreed to hold them for me for a couple of weeks until I get the cage set up right for new pigs and get all the extra stuff I'll need before I go up to collect them. Very excited! Now I'll need to go back and read all the threads and advice on quarantine and introductions.

How do I change the title of this thread to 'Woolly and Bingo!'? I managed with the last post but it hasn't changed on the front page. 'They've Arrived' isn't really appropriate any more! Probably just me being dim and it's really obvious...

Just go back to the first page of your thread and edit the title. Then all the new postings will then have that same title from there forward. Ooh I can't wait to see your new piggies! I'm in the same situation as you are, with my new piggies. I'm going to wait to begin my introductions for a full 4 weeks. My own vet recommended that I not rush it into it since my new piggies came to me with health and parasite issues. I'm sure your quarantine time can be less than mine since I'm sure your new piggies will be nice and healthy.....at least I hope so.

Yey! Thanks Val, see I knew it would be something really easy and obvious that I'd just totally missed! Well, I am blonde, what can you expect.... I'm sure my new two will be healthy. I got Woolly and Bingo from the same rescue and they managed to get a few lice after their move here so I'll watch out for them in the new guys. Might be a bit uncomfortable for the pigs but at least I can recognise it and its easily treatable - nothing like what you're going through with your two newbies! Off to start planning cages and all the fab new styuff I'll need for them!

It's always good to have someone help you realize your new year resolutions. The age differences are good for integrating them. I certainly hope it goes well. Ooh, a bigger herd. What fun.

Hope it all goes smoothly and can't wait to see new pigtures. I'd not be able to pass up bringing them home either.

I can't wait to see them in the flesh either! I have arranged to go and collect them a week on Saturday so I've got time to sort cages etc out. I'm planning a 2x6 C&C cage, albeit slightly L shaped but with the same floor area for all four when they're together. Hope they all like it (and each other!)

The wait is finally over - I got to go and collect my two new piggies today and they are even more gorgeous in the flesh than the photos! We have Rory, a neutered boar of about 9 months whose colouring is random ginger, black and white all over. Whilst definitely not long hair, his fur does seem to be slightly longer than short hair! Although not a large pig he seems quite chunky in shape, ie short and round rather than long and thin. Then we have Rhea who has a grey agouti head and bum and is white around the middle. She's 4 or 5 months old and is still quite small. They are both very shy and scaredy pigs right now which is why I will wait until later in the week to try and get pigtures of them to post for you. I may change one or both names so when I get photos for you I'll ask for suggestions. Wendi at Thistle Cavies started the quarantine for me so I am really only waiting now until I'm ready to attempt the inroductions, which I will have a go at next weekend. All advice and suggestions for that will be gratefully received. I hope they like new home and their friends!
