You might remember that last year Silvie was diagnosed as hyperthyroid, but too borderline to warrant treatment. As such, she has been due blood tests at 6 monthly intervals to re-chack her levels.
her latest test was a couple of weeks ago - what a trauma! Took her to the local vet branch, where there were only two folk on, so theyd ecided that wasn't enough to get blood from a very wriggly Silvie. Although she manages to make a horrible blood-curdling noise whilst they were trying! So off we went to the big hospital branch where I had to check her in, in case she needed to be sedated. Whilst I was waiting to check her in, there were two young girls in the waiting area whose hamster was having to be put to sleep - they were completely distraught! Barely a dry eye in the house... So when Silvie was done (no sedation required, thankfully) I took her home and gave her a great big hug for those young girls and their hamster.
Got the test results during the week - she has passed with flying colours! Vet says Silvie is a bit of a mystery as her thyroid levels have actually gone down. But I'm not complaining, as it means she doesn't need treatment any time soon and we can go back to having blood tests just once a year - yey!

Probably at least as traumatic for me as for her! But I'm glad she's ok - thanks all

Oh she's fine Jo, thanks Although, because its so warm I think and she's shedding loads of hair, she's got a bit of a hairball habit at the moment - at least every other night. Mightily unpleasant! Must have mislaid her brush with all the house moves lately so have bought her a new one. She seems to enjoy being brushed, although I can only really get her back and sides and she certainly doesn't stand or sit still, which makes it a bit awkward! Hopefully that will help. Any other tips for hairballs from those who know cats?

Have you tried fish oil? If you let her lick a bit off your finger, it's supposed to help.

Been a while since Dementacat died, but I used a tube of stuff from the pet store. Petromalt. Put some strips of it on a paw and let her lick it. Proabably something similar in the UK.

This evening Silvie has clearly eaten something she shouldn't have done - her eyes are seriously watering. She must be feeling sorry for herself because she's glued to my lap!

How is Silvie doing? Did she pass whatever was upsetting her tummy?

I don't think it was a tummy upset. Whatever I'm eating, Silvie likes to 'help'. Even if I'm eating chilli or curry! If she licks my plate when I'm finished, her eyes sometimes water - doesn't last long and doesn't seem to affect her otherwise, just makes her look proper sorry for herself! She soon slept it off, like she ever needs an excuse for a doze...

With all of Woolly pig's issues lately, I certainly haven't forgotten Silvie - she's helping keep me sane! I have a couple of weeks leave from work coming up with no particular plans, so I hope to get some good new pics of her to share with you
