I've been naughty about checking the Craigslist pet section again. This person keeps posting these guinea pigs every day. They started out as $10 each, then $5, and now free. They look like such cutie pies and are really stealing my heart. I hate that they are now being given away for free because who knows what kind of person will come and take them with bad intentions. stockton.craigslist.org/pet/1221144551.htmlI just don't know if it's in my best intentions to give these little guys a home. I already have 3 pigs, 2 cats, and 3 rats all in my 500 square foot apartment!! I have room for another 2x5 cage in my living room, or I could expand my existing cage to a 7x2. I don't think 6 boys would be happy in that space though. I don't even think 6 boys could get along in one space! They are truly stealing my heart though. I also worry about someone taking them and even if they have good intentions they might not know how to take care of the long hair.

I agree, they look gorgeous! If you feel you have enough space, you could perhaps foster them until you can find them a suitable home?
Good luck with whatever you decide to do, I've been checking our local ad place also and its sad how many piggies are up there.

One thing that shouts out at me about that advert is why aren't they giving the cage away. They must have something to cage the boys in and if they can no longer keep the boys why aren't they letting the cage go too - it would make me wonder are there health issues etc so they are getting rid of them to replace them with others etc? Could be totally innocent but if you were thinking of contacting them I'd like to know why they can't let you have the cage.

Ohh I didn't even think about that. That does seem a little weird. I've been wondering lately if there's some sort of guinea pig breeder on Craigslist. There have been quite a few guinea pigs with no cages on there in the last month or so that are offered for $5-$10. A lot of them don't even show pictures and just say "lots of guinea pigs for sale." I guess it wouldn't make sense for a breeder to give away pigs for free though.
I actually want to email the person now and get the full story of what's going on. I'm just not sure that I could take the pigs. It's quite financially stressful with all the pets I already have and my living room is already full of cages and cat houses. I'd just hate to see something bad happen to those poor pigs though. I'm still thinking about it.

I liked Lulie's suggestion: maybe if you don't have the resources to add three new piggies to your family, you could at least get them out of that situation and keep them long enough to find another loving home for them? Or find a guinea pig rescue in your area you could turn them over to? Being listed as free, there's no telling what kind of person might grab them... a small child who will soon tire of them, or, I hate to say it, someone looking for snake food. If you can take them even temporarily I think that would be a much better situation for them.

Just wondering where seller/owner is located? Does anyone know? I would be willing to take them I don't know if my husband would be willing to take all 3 though? I would hate to seperate them but at least I could provide 1 with a good home!!!

They are located in Stockton, California. I would take them in a heartbeat if I knew of someone who wanted piggies. I just don't know anyone who would want them. Of course I want them, but I already have so many pets!

I also think the same as newpig when I see pets for free/ or a cheap price but no cage. I always wonder if it is the pigs being sick, bad behaviour, or they want a different pet but keep the cage. I also think it could be them just thinking the cage was too expensive to give away and planning to sell in a garage sale or something? Pet store cages are very expensive, my first guinea pig pet store cage was about 180$ but with food and a starter kit.

Free small pets always get my attention and I like to email the sellers to at least warn them of snake owners and some we've adopted.
