Hello
I presently have 5 females and 1 male guinea pig.
Currently my little brown female FRANCES has a few scabs on her skin primarly on her chest. They have all had them at some time or another (all but 2). If I scrape the little scabs off and apply a dab of Aniti-Biotic and Anti0Fungal mixed together they go away with a day or 2. A few hairs do come out whn i scrape the off. I have gone on Guinealynx and cannot see anything that resembles what she currently has.
I have been told they may be mites....but her cage mate does not have them and all the females play together for hours in the afternoon and she is the only one that has them......would they not all have them ?
Could it be diet....to much C or a lack thereof ? PLEASE ADVISE !!!
Thank You
Concerned Piggydaddy

I hope someone can help more than I have, but I really think you need to get your pigs to a vet for a check up. It may have a simple solution, but you really need a vet to tell you what solution, if all the other treatments haven't worked. Good luck!!!

It is an unusual place to have mites, and you are right that her friends would show symptoms if she had them.
It could be a fungal problem; have you tried an antifungal bath once or twice weekly? If necessary, have her seen by a good vet. It is very often difficult to give a diagnosis over the internet.
Plenty of vitamin C is always good and should be part of a good diet anyway. If you are worried, you can give 1/8-1/4 of a normal tablet dissolved in a bit of water and syringed for best effect.

Cilantro is relatively inexpensive, and has a great group of vitamins and nutrients. If you feed just one veg, I would try Cilantro. If you are already feeding Cilantro, the pigs probably get enough C, but you can try increasing the amount you feed them daily, a small bit at a time. You can also feed a syringe of orange juice daily, of feed a piece of a slice or orange daily for C. Not too much, or the pigs could get mouth sores.

Feeding a slice of bell pepper/capsicum (any colour will do) daily is the best veg you can feed. They are the highest in vitamin C. Most piggies prefer green or red peppers to the the yellow or orange ones.
Broccoli, parsley and dill are also high in vitamin C, as are less bloating cabbages like pointed/sweetheart, savoy, spring greens or kale. They should not be eaten daily, so I rotate between them and only feed them as a part of a veg mix. My piggies all get a slice of pepper daily with their food.

Check out www.gorgeousguineas.com for an article on using essential oils. Not that you need to buy her products, but the article has a lot of information on what can go wrong with different oils including vegetable oil!
