I was NOT out looking for a pig- just knocking around while we were visiting family a few hours from home today. Found this fabulous private-owned petstore- and this one little pig left alone just as the breeder was bringing in a lot of new piggies- big pretty, but scary-looking things in size comparison to this tiny fellow. It took some convincing, but Steve agreed- that since the rest of the baby hamsters were all going to new homes in the next couple of days- and my numbers were WAY down- and Piccy needed a friend... Meet Hieronymus... He's 12oz- and super sweet! I hope Piccy likes him as much as I do!

Hieronymus is gorgeous Jenna , I hope your two boys get along together. Its lovely that Piccy will have a little friend. Its just my own personal view, but I'm not keen on breeders that just drop piggies off at a pet store.

:-*Oooh gorgeous I think he is a rex/has some rex in him. How old is the? If he is post 8 weeks then please do not just pop him in with Piccasso as you may ruin their chances of getting on... as they will almost certainly fight. You need to take ir slow with them... check out my site www.barmy4boars.co.uk under options for info on the introduction process. I wish you & the poys every sucess I would want a 2 week quarentine before you put them anywahere close each other (unless he is minus 8 weeks... in which case I would make an exception as it would affect the odds of a happy into)... I suspect, being a pet shop piggy you have no idea of age which is a problem.... and they would definately be post 6 weeks, likely older. I would therefore quarentine a week (min) then try begin slow (adult intros). Just another reason a rescue is better.... but THANKYOu for getting PIccasso a friend. It is the greatest gift you can give quarentine even if there is nothing obvious as things take time to appear

Congratulations Jenna ! I agree with Susie.....He definitely has Rex in him. I always quarantine 3 weeks which is plenty of time for something to crop up if it is there ! I love his name !! Aren`t there any Harry Bosch fans here ?? You could always call him Harry !!

I think his age is somewhere around 5 weeks. Piccy was only 10oz when I got him- and I know he was about 4 weeks old. His age is going to effect proper quarentine- but a week at least- to try to observe any excess scratching, etc. And he's called Mussy for short. As for breeders dropping piggies off at petstores... coming from an area where our shelters don't even know a hamster from a guinea pig if they ever happen to get one in (which is about once a year- believe me- I'm on several call lists and I never get called)- and then on the other hand where most petstores I have gone into have their animals shipped in on huge trucks- I prefer this more personal touch. The pigs he brought in were all tame and friendly- something you don't see in petstores- adn I go into a lot- there is always SOMETHING that the critters need. The litter that Mussy came from was not from a breeder but a surrender- brought to his wife's store- and she sent him the one boy (they seperate- very nicely run stores) where she kept the mum (petstore pregnancy) and sisters. Lucky for me. And Piccy.

Lucky Piccy to have a new friend! Little Mussy is awfully sweet! Okay, so WHERE is the IDEAL place to get a pig (bsides rescuing from a shelter)? There were NO rescues when I got my girls and I REALLY looked and called vets, etc.. I have had such bad experiences with dog breeders that I'm a little leery of breeders too. So WHERE?

Beth...No rescues? You may be right there. Have been searching for you for a little while just now & can't find zilch... not even in the classifieds? Just wondering why you want a new piggy Beth? Just a word of warning that I have been advised that 3 is not a good number as a pair usually bond & leave one out. 2 or 4 is better (of girls!!! boys will only live in pairs)... Best to stick with even numbers according to my friends in the know. Plus a little colony will need lots of extra space! Check out cavy cages for your minimum cage requirements www.cavycages.com Any other types of animal rescue may get occassional pigs. Especially rabbit rescues. Try every avenue. I had to travel a long way to find a rescue... and did so willingly. I sympathise with you & realise it might not be so easy for you to do that... so otherwise I would want a reputable breeder... on recommendation (maybe from a rescue in another state... they might no a good breeder near you if you explain the situation). Not just anyone as there are good & bad breeders... Pet shop- absolute last resport in my opinion... but I guess thats your choice...

I suppose there arn't always rescues that have piggies in your local area. I didn't know you was looking for another piggy Beth? I've probably got this wronge, but are you asking about rescues and how to find them, out of interest or are you thinking of trying to get another piggy? If its the latter, all the best finding a rescue with piggies I know quite a few people with 3 piggies living together, I know Treen dosn't have any problems with 3 girls living together. I've not read about even numbers being best, apart from boars living together in pairs. Very strange I have heard the phrase though 'Piggy in the Middle' Thanks Jilly, I see now lol

Great! Piccy has a lovely new friend! He does look super cute, and has really sweet eyes! I'd love more pics!
I have three girls living together at the moment, and for a long time had three ladies in a different cage. No problems there - infact when one of the girls was removed, the two remaining were pining for her until she returned.

Oh yes Alix absolutely there are exceptions to the rule (as in everything) & its great if they get on as a threesome (& cute I imagine). Its just something to watch out for... as you do for bullying etc

It's probably the personalities I have. An oldie that is number one, and the two younger girls that are good friends. Soon Bazz will add to the trio, and possibly another little lady.

Yes Alix....I had three girls who lived together beautifully too but three isn`t a good number in general terms, I don`t think !
Mine were two sisters and a daughter....They really loved each other. I still have Jasmine and Clover from the three and now they live with Buttercup and Daisy, making a foursome !!
