I don't remember chocolate cigs, but we had candy cigs that looked like real cigs, and we had bubble gum cigars. We managed to pretend we were smoking for only a few minutes, before we bit the cig or cigar Chocolate cigs wouldn't have lasted long enough to even pretend All of those candy cigs and cigars are gone, with the whole anti-smoking craze. If candy has such a profound and long-lasting effect on how children think, I'm surprised the candies weren't replaced with chocolate fruits and veggies. Marzapan! That's used for fruits and veggies, and I love it

We used to pretend to smoke them to Piggles love. The smokers set I speak of consisted of ciggies, a pipe a lighter and sometimes matches. They were cleverly done but very expensive and only available at Christmas time. I saw some marzipan fruits just before christmas and they looked wonderful Piggles hunni, I just wish I liked marzipan. The candy cigs are now known as candy sticks and I usually have some in as I love them. Here is an example. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261334415395?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITHugs JO xx

They're the same thing, aren't, just without the red bit at the end to make it look like a glowing ciggy and the box to make them look like cigarettes!
They'd be too sickly for me now - Jo, you must have a very strong sweet tooth!

I don't know if we have anything like those sticks, but the ones we had were in a pretend ciggy box, and had the red end to make it look like a cig. Apparently the bubblegum cigars are still alive and well, though when I was a child, they weren't just for baby births: www.oldtimecandy.com/walk-the-candy-aisle/bubble-gum-cigars/I think cigs of any type became politically incorrect. No making them in candy form, and encouraging children to want to smoke real cigs when they got older. Apparently it's okay to make the bubblegum cigars, as long as they serve some marketing purpose. Baby births are still politically correct to celebrate, but I wonder how much longer it will be politically correct to do blue for boys and pink for girls? I think it would be cool to use other colors, but it's hard to break really old traditions. I know a lot of parents who are going for neutrals, especially since that means the next child can wear the clothes, regardless of the sexes of the children. Maybe these boxes of bubblegum cigars will go into rainbow colors. That would be cool We're slowly eating up the leftovers. I'm enjoying my Chinese food lunches. Hubby has worked from home two days this week, so he's enjoying his sandwiches.

Ours used to be in a pretend ciggy box too and always contained a picture card. I am surprised you can still get bubblegum cigars, I don't think I have seen them here.

We had a major snow storm this weekend, so yesterday was stay inside and cook time. I made a double batch of chili, which was really great, and I planned to have it for dinner. I also had an eggplant, so I had hubby slice that on his meat slicer, then salted and pressed the water out of it, dried it and breaded it with a seasoned breading and parmesan cheese. Hubby fried the slice for me, as my back is still giving me problems. They were so good, and they were our afternoon-watching-movies snack, until hubby decided he wanted an eggplant parmesan with the chilly and the eggplant slices. So much for my great snack, but I layered the eggplant slices, chili and extra grated cheese into a small parmesan, and it was really good. I think he'll be eating that while I eat the chili and chastise him for making me use up my eggplant snacks, lol Best way to spend a major storm, with great aromas filling the house

That sounds delicious Piggles love, I love egg plant or what we can an aubergine here, unfortunately Paul doesn't. Before I met him I used to do a dish and fritter the egg plant slices and they were delicious. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I love the thought of having it with chilli but his lordship doesn't like chilli either, so I end up having to do one just for me and somehow there isn't the same pleasure in that. This is the best way to spend time whilst a storm is outside hunni, all that lovely hot food to keep you warm and comforted.

We were eating leftovers last night, and talking about what a great storm weekend it had been Hubby was raving about the food. We finished the chili last night, and he ate all but two lunches worth of the eggplant parm with chili, which he'll eat this week. It was fun cooking together, especially since my back is still giving me problems. He got to use his meat slicer and the new pan for the deep frying. He gets a kick out of me having eureka moments about cooking, and wanting to try things, but he's always happy to help

It is lovely doing something you both enjoy together that has a tasty end result. I am afraid that Paul and I just get in each other's way if we are both in the kitchen LOL!!

Same here, Jo - we end up 'accidentally' (on purpose) whacking each other with kitchen gadgets or opening doors on each other when the other one's in the way! We both have such different ways of doing things (for example, I don't set fire to the grill or feel it's necessary to say everything I'm doing out loud or use every single piece of kitchen equipment!) that we're best off taking turns! It's nice when you can do things together though, so I'm glad you and hub enjoy it, 3piggles!

Hehehehe! Bean and Jo, we used to be both of you It's gotten a lot better over the years, though he still doesn't listen sometimes He stopped at the store and bought me two beautiful eggplants, so I'm considering what I have for food that will go with another batch of eggplant slices.

A husband who came home having bought me aubergines is something I'm sure will never happen as long as I live! Even now, when getting things like aubergines and courgettes is really difficult here due to the cold weather in Spain (where much of our out of season veg are grown) I'm sure if he saw some in a shop, he'd still walk past them whistling and pretending he hadn't seen!
Today has been a junky day for me - bacon sarnies for breakfast, homemade cheeseburgers for lunch and takeout pizza for tea! I baked cakes this morning too, so have had that in between. Nice once in a while, but I'm sure there'll be more vegetables on the cards tomorrow!

Our weekends are like that. We have eggs, bacon or sausage, and potatoes for breakfast. Sometimes we're out for lunch, so stop at a fast food restaurant. That doesn't usually agree with us too well. If we're home for lunch, I make sandwiches which don't save us any calories. We tend to eat lite during the week, to make up for it. As long as you enjoyed the food, it was worth it

Ha ha, I think Paul gets in the way deliberate Piggles love so I will vacate the kitchen. Sometimes there is a real stand off. The running commentary sounds fun, they do like to let us know when they are doing things as they think it gives them brownie points. Very annoying though LOL!! Sometimes it is nice to have a junk day like that Bean hunni and every one enjoys it. The home made beefburgers sound wonderful. Our Dominos is taking its time opening up here but there again, we are in Liskeard and everything takes twice as long I love bacon eggs and sausage but I cannot eat it before about mid day. Sometimes when we used to have our main meal at night, we would have this which was a very late breakfast indeed. At the moment though I am enjoying my main meal at around 2-3 in the afternoon. Jo, if people can eat cold pizza and fried chicken for breakfast, we can eat eggs and bacon for dinner. I really think any food works for any meal, we've just been conditioned to think of certain foods as being part of certain meals. When Bean said they eat Krispy Kreme Donuts as desert, which we eat as breakfast, it really made the point that it's all in how we decide to use the food. Frittatas are omelets made in both the Italian and Spanish speaking countries as lunches and dinners. Cold, they can be put between two slices of bread and eaten as a sandwich. They can be served with a salad, served sliced and in a salad, served hot with tomato sauce, etc., and it's all about the eggs. Eggs have been really inexpensive lately, so we've been eating a lot more of them. Hubby is working from home today, so I made him a big sandwich with turkey, salami and ham, thinly sliced onion, mushrooms and cheese. I heated it in the frying pan under a press, so sort of a panini I had a salad of baby kale and spinach, romaine lettuce, onions, mushrooms and black beans. Very good. Now I have to figure out what I'm going to have for supper, as I've used everything that was obvious when I opened the refrigerator door. Might have to thaw something! We had butternut squash ravioli with marinara sauce last night, and didn't eat all the sauce, so I might make some eggplant slices to dip in the left over sauce, and some thing to eat with it. Finger food dinner

Very true Piggles love, I think I have eaten eggs and bacon at various times of the day in the past but yes, we are conditioned to think that certain foods are only for certain times. I find breakfast hard anyway so my first meal of the day is usually quite substantial but later on. I just love omelets but it is something I have yet to master. Paul does a cracking omelet and so filling you don't need anything else with it. Gosh that sandwich sounds nice hun, it certainly puts my version of one in the shade lol! Hope you have decided what to have for dinner tonight and more importantly to take something out of the freezer. That is something I often forget to do being a nit-brain LOL!!

Oh, I decided, Jo We had the seasoned/breaded deep fried eggplant, a steak I cut into thin slices, marinated, breaded and deep fried, and some bread pieces I think you would call soldiers I also deep fried. We were on a role until we got to the bread. The oil had cooled down way too much, so instead of quickly frying on the outside, it just absorbed the oil. Ooh, was that hard to digest. We each tried a couple of small pieces, and tossed the rest, as it was just too much. We were up half the night with indigestion from the bread, but the eggplant and the steak were really good. I made a marinara sauce for dipping. Hubby took the leftover eggplant and sauce to work today, for lunch I doubt I'll try deep frying bread again, anytime soon!

Fried bread is lovely with the traditional bacon and eggs breakfast Piggles love but it is hard to digest and unspeakably bad for us. The eggplant and steak sound wonderful. I had steak for dinner last night and so wish I had another piece today, what a greedy girl LOL!! It is actually egg and bacon today but no fried bread Hugs Jo xx

No more fried bread for us, that's for sure. I'm going to do Tempura again, with fish bites and broccoli florets. Should be a fun and lite dinner. We had pasta with purple cabbage, broccoli and carrots, in a beef gravy, last night. It was really good, and really good for us. I added some sliced sausage for hubby, as he likes meat in his meals. He'll go vegan for lunch, for not for dinner. I also finally found the cheese to make the fondue, so I'll do that one night this week, and we can eat more broccoli
