Sorry I missed the boat this month. I got stuck in holiday traffic for 14 hours. Only managed to travel about 400km. A nightmare!

14 hours?!?! That's an immense amount of time and beats any traffic jam I've ever been in. Hope the trip was good enough to make it worthwhile!

Sorry Shades love, traffic jams are a nightmare and there are certain places in the UK which always seem to be affected. I don't do much traveling anymore and consider myself lucky.

I totally missed this thread. October kind of snuck up on my Wow, 14 hours stuck in traffic! That's wild! I'm glad you made it home, finally. What holiday was it? Must have been an important one! I've been reading about China's new line of electric vehicles to decrease the amount of air pollution. Looks as if they're releasing a line of motorcycles soon. I saw pics of the ones that will be available, and they look great. Don't know about power or price, but they look great. We're predicted to have a banner foliage season this year. I hope so. Too often we get a wild rain/wind storm that takes all the leaves Sadly, we started the month with a mass murder in Las Vegas, and the death of Tom Petty. Lots of R.I.P.s, and we're only one day 3 Halloween is now just around the corner, figuratively. Hubby is really getting into it, this year, so even though we don't get trick-or-treaters here, we do get some cool decorations in the neighborhood. To save money, we went with Fall decorations, more than Halloween, so they work until it snows. Christmas is hubby's favorite for decorations, so I was a bit surprised he was really getting into Halloween.

Maybe he's got some scares planned for you too - jumping out from behind the curtains in a costume?!
Our leaves were starting to turn but we've just had a week of really high winds and lost a lot of leaves. That reminds me, last year's raked up leaves have mulched down so I'll put those over the roots of the more delicate plants to help protect them over the winter.

It has been a sad start to the month generally Piggles love, dare I say things can only get better, perhaps not? I love the colour of the leaves and treats this time of year Bean hunni, a mass of reds and golds.

Hehehe, no jumping out from behind curtains. Put this old heart into cardiac arrest I do love the colors. We are lucky to have some really brilliant shows, some years We'll be mulching the most delicate plants, too, especially the two lilacs and the hibiscus, which were only planted this summer. Just want to give their roots a fighting chance. I also need to get some of the outdoor plants potted and moved inside. I've managed to keep some annuals alive for years, so I'm willing to try to preserve some of my favorites. I usually plant them with other plants, so they have a good chance of surviving. My pot of lilies has so many other things that took root from bird droppings, that it's never boring to look at. Something going on in that pot year round! We're in that period between summer and fall, when the temps are all over the place. We had a frost a couple of days ago, and temps should get up to 80 today and tomorrow. No cold days in the next week, but we might get some much needed rain. The real cold will come soon enough. At least, at this time of year, temps my reach 80 during the day, but they cool off quickly once the sun sets, so it's open windows overnight, instead of running the a/c.

I promise I won't Piggles love lol! My days of jumping anywhere are long gone LOL! It is a bit like that here, September and sometimes the beginning of October can be really nice but this year it is damp and grey. Our clocks go back later on in this month.

I am not looking forward to setting back the clocks. It mean long nights and short day, and having to use artificial lighting, which is never as good as sunlight.
I do enjoy the cooler weather, the changing foliage, the Halloween decorations, etc. Trade-offs, I guess. Ooh, and the cold weather cooking! Love that!

I am unusual whereas I love the cosy dark nights Piggles love. When I used to cook I would prefer doing so in winter too.

They are cozy, Jo, that's for sure. My first reaction to the shorter days is to start going into hibernation, and being ready for bed by 7 p.m. My main problem with them is that I can't drive in the dark, so have to have hubby do the driving. If he's at work, and I have a guinea pig emergency, I'm out of luck. It's also harder to get out of bed in the morning, with no sunlight to greet me. We're getting much needed rain today. Temps in the 80s the last couple of days. Temps in the 70s tomorrow, than 80s and very humid on Sunday. Monday is Columbus Day, so a lot of people have it off, and it's supposed to rain and be in the 80s, again. That's pretty much what the next 10 days look like. Welcome to New England, lol I hope to get out to bike later, as the rain isn't supposed to be constant. With all the building going on at the end of the street, I've been waiting for the work to stop before going out to bike. The two guys working on the site kind of creep me out, too!

I am not very good at driving in the dark either Piggles love, in fact, I haven't driven at all for a very long time and have lost my confidence. We rarely have sunshine to greet us whether it be winter or summer hunni, it is usually pouring with rain as it is (surprise surprise) now. I hope you get to go for your bike ride, I think most cyclists are staying in here today.

I do drive, though rarely. I thought hubby was working a full day, yesterday, so headed out to the home store on my own. I got about 2 miles from him when he called to say he was coming home, so I turned around and went back. So much for my outing

I'd rather go with him, and have him drive. Since I can't stand in line to pay for items, I tend to wait until he can go with me, and do that part. As long as we aren't going very far, I get to look out the window, instead of worrying about traffic. On long trips, I get way too bored looking out the window, and need to share the driving.
It is HUMID today, and raining sporadically. I think this is the remnants of Hurricane Nate, though I thought he was supposed to arrive tomorrow. He's spinning his wheels over Mississippi, so we really shouldn't be getting anything from him, yet.
Hubby is installing the ceiling fan in the bedroom, as the plants coming in for the winter are taking up all the flat surfaces. We still have more plants to bring inside, so we're trying to maximize surface space use.

I cannot walk around shops anymore Piggles love so Paul tends to go on his own. Last month I had a trip to a supermarket in my wheelchair and it felt like a real treat lol. Let's hope that Mr Nate steers well clear of you Piggles, tell him he just isn't invited lol! Ceiling fans are great, I would have them installed if I could.

I do most of my food shopping online for convenience and cost, but it's nice to go and look round sometimes. I'm glad you got to go last month, Jo. You should make it a regular thing where you go along every now and then so you can see what's out and look for special offers.
Hope Nate hasn't bothered you, 3piggles.

Invited or not, Nate's hear. No winds, just a lot of rain, which we really need. Hubby is working from home today, as it's a holiday. Being a contractor, he works or doesn't get paid. Relaxing day for him, work and all.
The ceiling fan worked great. It has a remote control to it, so I can change the light and fan levels without having to get out of bed. We have the fans and a/c running. It's 2 p.m. and we have 94% humidity, so we just have the fans moving the air a bit, not running hard enough to cool the place.
We're going to do some food shopping in a bit. I haven't gotten dressed, yet, as I've just been doing things around the house.
The rain should move out later tonight, for a nice day tomorrow. We're on kind of a rain every other day weather schedule for now. Temps are high for October. This is at least the second year in a row with higher than average temps. No global warming, according to our fearless federal leaders.

You are right Bean love, I am trying to go out on a regular basis even if it is just a quick look around the supermarket. It is raining here too Piggles hunni but not a heavy downpour as I suspect yours is. Glad the ceiling fans are making you more comfortable.

Glad Nate passed you without too much bother, 3piggles, and glad you got the rain you needed from it. It's drizzly here this morning too, Jo, but it's supposed to brighten up so I've optimistically put a wash on and am hoping to hang it outside!
