Losing a pet, even a brief one, is always heartbreaking.
But, freeing one from pain is always the right decision, as hard as it may be. You let him go with dignity, and that matters.

I'm really sorry to hear about Cookie, Amber. But I'm really happy for Cookie that he got to live out his last few months in your home with your piggy gang and husband - we know he will have had the best care possible, both when he was well and when he became unwell.
I really like the name Cheesecake, but Schneeflocke is a corking word and I'd be tempted to call her that at least some of the time!

I hope Snowflake keeps him busy, so he doesn't mourn Cookie too hard <3

I hate the cleaning! and the mess they do hahaha I hate that the hay is sticking into the fleece and i can't get it out.
I have to say though, in this new flat and in the current setting, at least they don't stink anymore. We also keep a window slightly open, but in the large living room the smell is neutral. When we had them in their temporary cage in the office room the room was smelly, even with an opened window 24/7.

Did 2 days ago some treats and taming with the piggies. This time, all 5 of them are visible, including the two newest additions. Schneeflocke/Snowflacke is the completely white one and Oreo is the youngest in the group, the black and white one.

They are beautiful, and I love how they take treats from you and enjoy some petting in the process I also love what I can see of the cage. The more things pigs have to do, the less trouble they get into When I used fleece bedding, I put a sheet over the top of the fleece. That way I could gather up everything, poos, hay, everything, and just shake it into to the bin on cleaning day. It kept the hay from sticking in the fleece. I just cut some bed sheets to fit the cage, enough bigger to tuck under the fleece to hold it in place. Might be worth trying Ooh, that's great about the smell

Adorable video. Oreo made me laugh with the lively movements! You have such a great set up, they've got to be happy pigs!
Hay sticking in material always bugged me too, and the hair on it! I used to do half and half (washable and disposable) but don't use washable much these days - as I don't clean them out, I don't have much to do with it.

Unfortunately I had to let Cherry-Cake go. The lumps on her body started to grow about a month ago and she started to get more bony with every week, despite her eating normally. On Wednesday evening it took a rapid turn for the worse, and I started to give her Metacam to keep her comfortable. She wasn't as lively as before, staying back and not relaxing at all, eating much less and only slowly. Thursday evening she already refused the metacam, she also refused the Critical Care (which all piggies love) and she was only eating tiny bits of the fresh food. I didn't wanted her to suffer just for my pleasure of still having her around, and on Friday afternoon I have made an appointment to help her cross the rainbow bridge. I brought her fresh willow tree, on which she nibbled a bit and gave her apple, lettuce and cucumber.

Oh no, what sad news - I'm really sorry, Amber. Sleep tight Cherry-Cake, and I'm glad you got to spend so much more time with her in recent months.

This has been a rough few months for you- my deepest condolences for your loss. For what it's worth, I'm sure you made Cherry-Cake's last hours as pleasant as you possibly could.

Thank you all. Yes, indeed, the last months have been really rough, with one loss after another.
I am trying to get back on my feet after all this.
We will see if we adopt another piggy, the cage is too large for only 4. The rescue in the area has two females available, but they will give them only together. 6 is too much for us, the cage is too small for 6, we wouldn't have the space for that many houses and they would not have the space to run. A space that Oreo and Snowflake use it every single day.
I am worrying about Marshmallow...her weight is oscillating a lot from week to week, with large (50g) losses sometimes. I do hope that her cancer didn't return.

I'm sorry you have worry about Marshmallow too. I really hope it's nothing serious.
If the rescue are insisting the two girls are rehomed together, maybe it's because they're really close, and they wouldn't need an extra house as they'd always be snuggled together. That's how Bertie and Reginald are, so I only ever have two hideys in for the three of them (Bertie will snuggle with Biscuit sometimes too, she's just not one to be left alone). Anyway, we all have our limits, and that's a sensible thing, so I'm not suggesting you go beyond them. Just that sometimes one more doesn't make as much difference as you think it will.
Take care, and I hope you get the chance to relax very soon.

I'm sorry you have to worry about Marshmallow, too At least she's with people who worry <3 I hope her cancer hasn't returned. All digits crossed for her! I wish I still has a picture of the Piggy Paradise, but I added a second level of just running space by connecting THESE: FERRET FUN TUNNELSI removed the roof of the cage, zip tied the tubes to the roof, and returned the roof, though not connected to the cage. I had a 2x4' cage at the time, and the configuration I had added 8' of running space without them being able to pile up and get stuck on one area. Sometimes, if you can't expand out, try expanding up. I had an entry tunnel into the cage, and the boys loved it! Just a thought, and something to hopefully help you put your mind on something positive. That's hard to do when we lose a baby, especially if we think another might be following her
