I thought I'd start one of these threads, for a change!
Happy April, or at least as happy as you can make it.

Oh yes, good job Baz!
I'd totally forgotten about this, despite being vaguely aware it was April - I guess the date and day doesn't have as much significance at the moment!
We had our second 'clap for carers' last night, where at 8pm, loads of people go outside and clap/ cheer/ bang pans to say thank you to all the key workers who are keeping us going. It started as primarily being for NHS workers but also includes refuse collectors, carers and supermarket staff. I suppose it wouldn't work as well in areas that are rural and spread out, but in a city, you can hear the echoes of thousands of other people around you! It seems to be a massive morale boost to the people who are still out there grafting.

I am not sure if Copenhagen or Vienna have this "clap for carers". Here, outside where i live, i haven't heard anything, even though i am living really close to a hospital.
I have received today the news that classes will be held online until the end of the semester. The exams will also be online (either written or oral), with all aid available, including internet. I am especially anxious about the Statistics exam... For my other course most likely the exam will be suspended and only the report will be used for the grade. The PM plans with a gradual opening of the country after Easter (borders will stay closed for longer), but the university will stay closed.
Also hubby's university will suspend all face-to-face lectures and exams until the end of the semester.

California has already announced it's school buildings will stay closed until the start of the next school year, in September. It think it's probably for the best, though I feel badly for students who are graduating, and may have to do that remotely. It was always a big thing to toss our caps in the air after the ceremony, just a "we did it" thing everyone did. Not quite the same to not have a cap and gown, and no one to toss the cap into the air with, anyway. After sitting through some horrendously long college graduations, though, I'm not sure doing those online wouldn't be better. Just not the same, I know Our state borders aren't closed, but out of state people have been asked not to come to our state unless they have to, truck drivers delivering supplies, essential workers and support service providers. People's furnaces, faucets, washing machines, you name it break, even under quarantine. Otherwise, the governor has asked out of staters to stay out of our state. Other states have done that, too, though I only get the news on the New England states. We still aren't restricted to our homes, and there's a lot of traffic on the road outside our neighborhood. Life continues. Good luck on the exams, Amber. When I was in college and took statistics, I found the students who did badly on the test mentally made it much harder than it was. While the uses are endless, the process is fairly basic. That's what I found really interesting about statistics.

September seems like a long time away to get back to school/ uni etc, but I suppose the end of term is only mid July, just over three months away. I know that although schools here don't know yet what's going to happen, they're all planning for the same situation.
Kids are great at sharing germs, so even if we can resume some normality before that, it does seem like it'd be a hard environment to maintain any social distancing. It's the impact of that on parent's ability to work though, and therefore the economy, that's the most worrying thing.
Hope you get okay with the online classes, Amber.

I wonder if cleanliness in public places-schools, stores, offices, warehouses, etc., will remain heightened after the crisis ends, or drop back to what it was before? It might be nice to have a happy medium, especially in schools, where as you said, germy kids spread those germs everywhere.
Now that we've all been taught how to keep a cleaner environment, it would be nice if the worst germy places did work a bit harder to control the flow. Schools should keep masks on hand for children who can't seem to cover their mouths or wash their hands. Perhaps even lab coats, or something like that the kids can leave at school and wear during the day. The school can have them all cleaned and sanitized over the weekend. I know, bottom line budgeting won't allow for that. Just a thought.
Beautiful day today. Got outside to walk several times, and biked around the hood once. I may get out to bike again. Hubby has accomplished a great deal in the shed, and is still at it, so we're trying to walk on the hour(4:55 p.m. through 5:05 p.m. next walk) Instead of 250 steps per hour, we're combining two hours worth, and doing 500 steps. That way he doesn't have to stop what he's doing every hour, walk for 5-15 minutes, then do it again next hour.

I'd LOVE it if people learned to be more sanitary- you all recall my disgust at what I see going on in men's washrooms! (For those unfamiliar, I've seen guys just run their hands under water for two seconds and then walk away, no soap used at all. Ecch!)
Given that, I'm not surprised the trumpvirus has spread as bad as it has.

Although there is the counter argument that we create such sterile environments for ourselves now, that many viruses and bacteria actually do better because our immune systems get far less of a workout as we're growing up.
I'm not saying this in specific relation to coronavirus, which seems to have other issues at the root cause, and neither am I saying I'm happy about people not washing their hands after using the loo! But I do think trying to create too clean an environment when it's not necessary can backfire years down the line.
We're in for a lovely day weather-wise - blue skies, sunshine, little wind and 19c. I'll be out in it for as long as I can, and hopefully it'll be good enough to get the pigs out too!

Same in the ladies room, Baz Women can be pigs just like the mean, with their hygiene I think it's best for everyone to wash their hands, period. I don't think that's what's causing the lack of antibodies fighting diseases. We washed our hands, growing up. Couldn't sit at the table, eat anything, even go up to our rooms, without washing our hands. That was because my mother got tired of washing dirty hand prints off the woodwork, but we still washed our hands, and faces. We also spent a lot of time outside, playing in mud, dirt, sand, riding bikes we didn't wipe down with disinfectant, etc. I think that's where we built up the antibodies. Doesn't clean the baby's toys after every he touches it, or constantly follow the kids around with disinfectant wipes. Let them get the germs that are natural to our world, and only clean with they get germs that aren't natural. Hand/face washing is as much about not carrying a mess farther than you need to, as it is for not transmitting diseases. Reason and ration, not over reaction.

I feel like I have a good balance. Unless raw chicken is involved, I know I'm a bit OTT then!
It was windier than expected yesterday, so the pigs didn't make it out, but one of the runs needed repairing, so that got done without having to worry about disturbing them, so they still benefited!

I think we set a good balance for daughter. Nothing we can do about allergies, or anything like that. Panicking just doesn't help. It's brightly sunny and windy here today, too. Great day to get out and about. We've already done our walk around the hood, and several shorter walks to get in our 250 steps per hour. I'm almost up to 12K steps, and still have my last 250 to go for the day. Hubby has been raking the yard, so getting in a lot of steps that way. The heat/furnace is off for now, as it was turning on to heat the house when we didn't need it heated. I can close a lot of windows before I need to turn on the heat again

You are putting me to shame! I had plans for activity yesterday but got waylaid by things like phone calls. I must do better. I don't sleep so well when I'm not doing much.

If we have to force ourselves to exercise, or to do anything, we won't do it very often, and will just resent feeling guilty about not doing it. When it's the right thing for you you'll do it. I'm doing it because I enjoy it, so remembering to do it isn't a problem, though if I overdo it, motivating myself to keep going is tough.
We've done a lot of exercising over the last few days, getting as much done as possible and between rains.

I'm doing it because I enjoy it, so remembering to do it isn't a problem, though if I overdo it, motivating myself to keep going is tough. Occasionally I have the feeling that I don't want to do it, but if I at least start, either I can get at least halfway through it (which to me is better than no exercise) or I manage to get enough endorphins flowing that I finish my routine.
But there are days where I can't work up the will to get started. I don't feel guilty about it, either.
On a side note, I started getting back into the weight-lifting, (never for bulk, just strength-training) and was sore for two days. I woke up stiff today, but as the day wore on I felt good enough to lift again today. I'm not fully up on my regular routine, but I always take these things slowly anyway.

Glad you can get back into your workout routine now you're not using all your energy demolishing things!
I did a load of garden jobs in the sunshine yesterday - mowing the lawn, painting the sheds, powerwashing some other stuff. I've found some clear fence treatment (much more expensive than the coloured ones, but I really don't like those) - online rather than somewhere I can pick up - so will do that when it arrives.

Glad you're back to working out, Baz. It's hard to do strength training when you're wasting yourself doing demo. It's unfortunate there's no way to turn demo into a good workout. Working you, yes, but not the way you want to be worked. I have this mental image of you walking to the dumpster with bricks in each hand, doing a workout on the way I think it's good to at least start an exercise, but it should be something that at least appeals, even if in only a small way. If you think you'd like to walk, but don't feel like hoofing it for miles, go out for a stroll. See where it leads. You might go a lot further than you expected, and enjoy it enough to do it again. I also think it helps to have multiple outlets for exercising. Currently we have the bikes and the feet. Once the pool opens, we'll also have that. If we only had one thing we could do, I think it would get boring after a while. I've tried the home treadmill. That got some action, but not as much as it should have. It just go boring looking at the same walls, every time. Same with the exercise bike. In both cases, I could watch TV, but there were so many commercial breaks, I got tired of constantly muting the commercials. If it were really getting me going, I think I would have overlooked a lot of inconvenience. We've been getting out as much as possible. Hubby is still sorting through things in the shed. It's looking much better. I'm still cooking everything I can think of. Did a slow cooker beef roast, today, so have lots of leftovers to eat between the fried chicken and the beef roast

Glad hub is doing a good job with the shed!
We had another 'clap for carers' last night and it's getting bigger every week. Only a few of us in our street were out on week one, but it was over half last night and you could hear it all around the city. A few fireworks too this time - not so sure about that, but it's nice people are coming together to show their appreciation.

That's great! Do you think, on week 1, a lot of people still thought the quarantine wouldn't last very long? It seemed to take a lot longer than necessary to get people to take the virus seriously. Back in 2001, one of the greatest stock car racing drivers, Dale Earnhardt, was killed when his car hit the wall on the last lap of the Daytona 500. My neighbor, who owns an embroidery business, made memorial jackets for her husband and me, as we were huge Earnhardt fans. I got too fat to wear the jacket, but not anymore 🤗 This is the jacket 🤗 I'm also wearing the to tight Jean's I was waiting to be able to wear 🤗 I apologize for the hair. I washed it, then had to get out to walk before the rain, so just stuck it back and went out walking

That's brilliant that you can wear the jacket again! It's a special thing that your friend made for you, so must be a great feeling. Looking really good, 3piggles!
What does hub think of your weight loss? Has he really noticed the difference, or is he just of the mind that although he wants you to feel as well as you can, that you're his lovely wife and will be his lovely wife whatever size you are?
I don't think as many people were aware of the clap for carers at the start. It wasn't a big story at first. I'm sure there was some element of people just thinking it'd be over in a couple of weeks too! Now they're all bored and looking for anything to join in with! I'm not really that cynical about people's motives - there does seem to be major support for the people who are keeping us going, especially with several doctors and nurses having died from the virus, along with bus drivers and other people who have put themselves in harm's way to keep the country going. We've nearly hit the 10k mark for deaths.
