Ah I'm really glad Oodles is looking a bit better and that her digestion has settled too. Good luck with the bath today and fingers crossed she carries on with her recovery. How long will the meds last?

Oodles got a bath last night, while hubby cleaned Pigloo City. This morning, she needs another one. I'm going to try washing her butt with a cloth, and see if that helps. If it does, I can do it regularly as needed. She's definitely moving around more, just not raising her butt at all to not get the urine all over her. Her appetite is great, and her poos looked really good.

Keep the good news coming for us Oodles! It's great to hear she's continuing to improve, and I hope you can find a way to keep her bum end clean without bathing her - much easier for you both!

Need to do a butt dunk, but since we don't keep the house very warm, and yesterday was Christmas, I gave her a reprieve. I noticed she was grooming her left hind leg, even if just going after an itch, which is a first since she started having trouble. Hoping a good bath helps encourage her to groom more She's getting very vocal about treats, and is back to standing on her hind legs to lean out of the cage to encourage me to feed them

Ah that sounds like very good progress - she's using her leg more all the time, so must be feeling a lot more comfortable. Is she being entertaining enough for Noodles yet?!

My days keep getting away from me, but today she'll get a good warm soak and butt cleaning. Pigloo City also seems to smell a lot of urine since she started having trouble, so I'll go through the hay, remove any that's saturated, and add some fresh hay. She's still a long way from getting up on the loft, but as long as she's eating and drinking under the loft, I know she's getting the food and water she needs Otherwise, she's moving around, not running or popcorning, but at least she's moving. Both legs seem to work, so I don't think anything is broken. I'm still thinking sprain or pulled muscle.

Yesterday and today she's acting as if she doesn't feel well, so I'm watching her closely. Hubby had Noodles out for a snuggle, so she doesn't feel left out. Oodles can move. She seems not to want to. She's still peeing all over herself, so if that doesn't improve, I'll take her back to the vet next week. Just have to finish today's cooking so I can clean out the sink for her bath.

Sorry the progress has stalled and Oodles isn't looking so good. I'm glad you have a good vet lined up, so that if Oodles does need more attention, it's not such a worry about where you'd go. But I really hope she improves. Did the flannelling not clean her as well as you'd hoped?

Once again, it's holiday time, so getting to the vet is probably another 3 hour + process, and I just don't know if it will help. I'm going to call the vet tomorrow, and see if they'll fill another painkiller prescription, so I can see if it helps to give it to her longer. She's definitely still in pain. She rallies, then fades. She eat some, but is so thin. She used to be my wide load I have gotten some Pedialyte into her, so she's getting liquids and electrolytes, though I don't know how much it's helping Hubby was feeling her, earlier, and she was crying when he touched certain places. I touched the same places a little while ago, and she didn't cry, but if I moved her feet, or put the Neosporin on her privates, she cried the whole time. When I gave her a bath, she didn't cry when I washed her privates, but cried when I moved her feet. I'm not sure what to even tell the vet, but think Oodles needs x-rays to know for sure what's wrong, and I doubt I can get those until the new year. Hopefully, I'll get more of the pain meds, and that will get her through to Monday, when we can get her back to the vet. I'm keeping all digits crossed, but my hopes aren't high. I'm elated when I see she's still alive, and we've been giving her a lot of attention, just putting her in a cuddle cup, and sitting with her, stroking her. I'm making sure Noodles gets attention, too. Poor baby is totally lost, not knowing what to do with her sister acting so strangely

It does sound like an x-ray would be a good idea, to check for some more serious injury or other issue. I hope you can get Oodles more pain meds in the meantime to keep her as comfortable as possible. Sorry it's happening over the holiday again, it adds an extra layer of difficulty to it. I will keep everything crossed for Oodles. x

No x-ray. She has as urinary tract infection, which is also causing the problem with her privates. She got antibiotics and more painkillers, but the vet visit may have been too much for her. Because I needed her clean so I could put Neosporin on her privates, I have her a nice, warm soak when we got home. She was fine, but shortly afterward she started slumping to one side. She was still vocal, and otherwise no worse. I couldn't get her to eat anything, so gave her some Pedialyte so she had something in her stomach. Then I gave her the first dose of antibiotics, wrapped her in a warm towel, and snuggled her while she dried. Not long later, she slouched onto her side, and hasn't moved, since. I've been keeping her warm, and she took another syringe of Pedialyte, but has slowly declined. I have her on a puppy pad, which is on a heating pad, in Pigloo City. There's a fleece over her. It's the best I can do. I hope she's comfortable, but she's declined so far, I doubt she'll still be with us by morning. I'm still hoping she'll rally, but I'm not holding my breath. Poor Noodles is totally lost without her sister 😢

I'm really sorry Oodles has taken such a turn for the worse. She obviously needed the vet visit, and could have progressed exactly the same without it, so please don't worry that taking her there caused anything to change. If it's a bad UTI then she wouldn't have stood a chance without antibiotics and you've given her that. I really hope the meds kick in quickly and help her perk up a bit during the night. I know you will make her as comfortable as she can be at home. I'm rooting for Oodles here and really hope she starts to improve. x

Oodles crossed the Rainbow Bridge around 1 this morning. Vic was up with her. Couldn't sleep. She was such a wonderful girl, my sweet, laid back wide load I will miss her I don't think there was anything we could have done. Every time we thought she had passed, I'd pet her, and she would respond. She loved having the heating pad under her, even as she slipped away, she was snuggled into her fleece and heating pad. Her little body just couldn't take anymore Hubby said Noodles spent time with her, and is aware she's gone. I'm not sure what to do with her until spring, when I can dig a grave. It's cold enough to keep her outdoors until then. I just have to find the right, protected place. In the sprint, I'll bury her with a new planting, so she'll always be part of that. I doubt I'll ever stop wondering if I could have done something different. It's just how I am. I don't think she suffered. I just wish I could have helped her Popcorn free over the Rainbow Bridge, Oodles We briefly talked about how we'd get Noodles a pal. Hubby went into his usual totally baseless reasons why we shouldn't get another pig. He can't seem to deal with the idea very well, and always goes through the same "you can't take care of them" routine, though I do the majority of the taking care of them. Hubby's gone back to bed for a nap, after staying up with Oodles. Doesn't care about the guinea pigs? I don't think so I will miss you, Oodles

3piggles, my heart goes out to you- it seems the very end of 2020 still needed to kick us when we're down one final time. I'm sorry you won't be able to dig a grave- I thought I was in a similar position, so I called the vet and asked about cremation services; they said it only cost $50, but to get the actual ashes back costs $230! Needless to say, I went out and found I was able to dig a grave deep enough for Murphy. (We have a few inches of snow, but the ground wasn't frozen hard enough and the shovel is good quality.) I couldn't bear the thought of dropping off his remains and then that being the end of it. Will you look for another companion for Noodles?

Oh no, this is rotten news - I'm so sorry, 3pigggles.
I'm the same as you going over what I've done and if I missed anything, really just so I can learn from any experience and maybe spot something quicker the next time. But Oodles presented as having some kind of problem with her legs and with the help of the vet you made her comfortable while she healed. By the time it became clear something else was going on, it was too late to do anything but give her a safe, relaxing space and make her as comfortable as is possible. You definitely ticked all those boxes for Oodles, but it doesn't make it any less rubbish that you've lost her.
What a pants week this has been for our little Wheekers. Sleep tight Oodles. x

I wrapped her up nicely, put her in a plastic bag and a nice box, sealed it all, and hubby put her under the bag of hay in one of the trash cans, outside. While it's practically 40F, today, it will get cold, again, and she will freeze. I want to be able to plant my little girl under a nice flower or bush, so this spring, I'll dig her a nice grave, in a nice place.
Last time I had a pig cremated, it cost something like $184 to get the ashes. I just can't afford that. I'm glad some people can, as it gives them a nice sense of closure, but for now, she'll be fine.

It seems you have rotten luck around the first of January lately- I recall your thread about Morty and he passed away on January 1st 2016, if I am not mistaken.
(((hugs again)))

I'm glad you've found a way to give Oodles the send off you'd like to. I hope you don't have to wait too long for the right weather.
Cadders, Josh, Pops and Rocky are the first pets we've buried, at the request of the kids (while we were renting, I certainly didn't like the idea of leaving them behind in the ground). Before that I would just leave them with the vet for cremation and I didn't want the ashes back anyway, so the cost wasn't a factor. It is kind of nice having somewhere in the garden that reminds me of them, although I swapped the shrub I planted over them at first as it wasn't thriving in that spot - the new one is.
